I think he's got potential to be a fan favourite. Journeyman find a home with the Rams. I like the story.

If ever there was a game which demonstrated the value of Shinnie to the team then todays' was it.  Granted there were a couple of wayward passes but the number of ball-winning tackles and interceptions went a long way to stifling the Boro attacking threat.
Some of the criticism he's had on here this week has been laughable.

You're missing the point. The same misfortune / inconsistencies would apply to other clubs in our league so it evens itself out - i.e. it's not that we literally get a piece of luck to allow an offside goal or get a favourable decision from a ref to balance the opposite events previously...

Curious as to Rosenoir’s comment after the game that he’d played with Baldock at Brighton and therefore knew his quality. Stearman and Allsop also in the England age group squads at the same time as Rosenoir (who played for the 21s as an overage player).  Jagielka obviously a teammate of Rooney’s at Everton and Morrison a teammate at Man u. Suggests the 5 ‘out of contract’ signings could be heavily down to the Rooney/Rosenoir relationships rather than the ‘recruitment team’.

Raich Carter reacted to Ram-Alf in Roos - could he have done better?
My point is Roos didn't and still doesn't command his area, Huddersfield goal from the freekick, Addmittedly it was  swung in with pace, But he was caught in the headlights, Never moved off his line.
He's a good shot stopper, But when it comes to commanding his area and crosses where bodies are concerned there's plenty of scope to improve, The faux Pah at Peterboro where a 25 yarder almost went through him sent shudders up my spine.

Very much the 'tallest dwarf' award! Roos' 'save' from that 30 yarder against P'boro was frankly embarrassing. I honestly don't think he's good enough to be a professional goalkeeper, let alone one in the Championship - his positioning, anticipation, reactions and basically everything needed to keep goal was missing in that one moment. Shocking goalie. Anyway, as you were! ?

Thing is, if Jags himself didn't think he had anything to offer, why would be bother to keep playing? He's made enough money to not need to play and probably had lots of offers to play lower league stuff so I'm leaning towards this being a good thing... optimistic fool that I am.
Not so long ago, a 32 year old was about finished, let alone 39! We now have Ronaldo at 36 as top scorer in Serie A, Ibra still being in the top 10 players in the world at 39 and Chiellieni at 37 still bossing things at the back for Italy. With sports science having moved on and players taking more care of themselves, their careers are much longer than previously.
Let's face it, we could do with a bit of luck so Jags doing a Paul McGrath would be a god-send this season.

Baldock getting the 9 shirt I feel is further evidence that the plan was to go into the season with him leading the line. His goal record is poor and I don't think it will change too much here but I also don't think it's why he's being signed. I suspect he's being signed to get Lawrence scoring regularly. I think the plan tactically is that Baldock stretches the defence, putting the centre backs on the back foot so that Lawrence has space in front of the defence to operate. This is very similar to how Rowett deployed Nugent in order to give Vydra time and space.
Personally I wouldn't judge him too much on how much he scores and don't expect him to score more than around 5, judge him on if the attacking midfield behind him starts scoring more.

    I can play up front.
Maybe not as mobile as Chris Martin but I'm wider than John O'Hare and I can finish better than Mikel Beck.
However, my wage demands would be close to those of Fabrizio Ravenelli.

I don't want Rooney as manager.
I didn't want him at the club in the first place.
But the club is in a terrible state. The squad is the poorest it's been for years.
And yet, Rooney has been very dignified throughout the past couple of very difficult months.*
I'm not sure any manager could save us this season.
We need a new owner, ownership of the stadium and an end to the EFL soap opera. Then we can have a total reset.

Well said. That interview last night was the most natural I've seen him do and the first where I've actually remotely liked him. He came across as honest and like he cared.
My view is that he's staying because he's a tenacious bugger. He's on a hiding to nothing really in that if we survive, it's because we're a big'ish club; if we go down then he's not all that of a manager is he. Whichever way you look at it, it's far lower risk for him to leave as no-one would blame him and start with a less troubled club (i.e. any other club in the English league!).
So overall, fair play to him for sticking it out. I'm not sure I would have and I'm a fan! ?
