It's not necessarily Mel's money per se (in the abstract sense in that the investments are mostly loans, etc). He is obviously looking to get as much money back as he can. He may write some of it off but I don't believe he's in the Lionel Pickering 'ah fk it' camp and is prepared to write it all off! Let's say he's invested £50m - I'd imagine he wants at least £25m back.Obviously it's not as simple as that because of who owns what and I've no doubt that he'll link some of his investment to long-term results from the academy (i.e. perhaps a percentage for the next 10 years of all transfer fees from academy players) but anyway, the point of it is, if we truly went into administration then he'd be a creditor so would get 20p in the £ or whatever the agreement is that (even preferential) creditors get.
With regard to protesting against the EFL - to be sure that your feelings are not just frustration at the (awful) situation then perhaps you have to ask what their motivation is. If you believe them to be corrupt then fair enough, protest away. However, they strike me as inept and a bit naive but they're ultimately trying to stop people like Mel doing what he's done to DCFC...
So we might not like it as we're the 'target' but ultimately, it looks like we've cheated (repeatedly) and as such, their focus should be on getting Mel out and more... stable owners in. I don't think they have a vendetta against DCFC (why would they) but perhaps (and with some merit) believe Mel isn't good for the league or DCFC.

Yeah the EFL have a vendetta against us. Just like they did against Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday. Nothing to do with the fact we've tried every trick in the book of course.

Whichever way we dress it up we broke the rules... he bent over backwards to avoid FFP so is it a massive surprise they want us punished... We had to work out an accounting process to work around the rules and sell our stadium so that we could make the signings we have. Ultimately he tried to cheat and he's embarrassed the club and the fans. We'll probably go into league one on the back of his ownership so ultimately I don't blame fans if they want Mel out. Whilst I don't doubt his intentions and commitment to Derby County he has monumentally failed!

Typical of the lack.of balance on this forum - one good game and he's a world beater, one poor game and he's garbage.
We already knew before the game last night that Roos was a good shot stopper but doesn't command his area at all, is not comfortable with the ball played back to him and drops the occasional high profile ricket.
Nothing has changed from this since last night.

This thread won't age well, I'm calling it now. ??
Joke... But I do think he's always got a mistake in him. Kicking isn't great, doesn't command his box, lacks concentration and just makes odd decisions at times. Really hope I'm wrong though.

Based on the restrictions on us when he signed and his willingness to sign in that position, i think he is underrated and an excellent signing. We were hardly going to get Messi

They are, when you negotiate a contract, if you put in clause specifying what is to be delivered then you can hold them up to it.

I've seen us in the third division before - and it was great fun. I've reached the stage where I don't mind what level we play at. OK, I've stopped attending matches, but that's not because we're rubbish - it's because I'm pretty disgusted with the behaviour of some fans - including ours.

Dirty filthy Brummies, they will target our youngsters and get away with murder unless the ref is strong.
And their fans are very close to Stoke and Leeds for pure horribleness, loud mouthed Jasper Carrots the lot of em. We've got some over here in Utch from the Brum slum clearances of the 1960's. The only time you ever see a brum shirt is if they fluke a win over the mighty Rams.
    Dunt bother me though.....?

What was the point of having a supporters meeting asking attendees to elicit questions from the fan base safe in the knowledge that the information imparted during that meeting was never going to be able to be shared with the wider supporters?

Very true. And clubs like ours are also less than perfect...
I think Rooney fancies himself to handle difficult characters (having been one and having been around lots!) so he might take a chance on some of them. I quite like the excitement of taking a chance on the odd random. Some of us remember Taribo West where it was 50/50 as to whether he'd physically turn-up!

How blinkered are our fans that people are even questioning it. He's stamped on the man's c**k, it's a blatant red! ?
Incidentally it's also the best thing he's ever done in a Derby shirt.

Exactly. I said the same on the Florist game thread. After all the doom and gloom it was ridiculous how many were kicking off when in reality, given the state we're in, we're lucky to actually have a starting 11 and a full bench! Some Derby fans need a serious reality check I'm afraid.
Let's be clear (ohh I sounded a bit Tony Blair there) ; this season is about survival. We're a decent sized club potentially but we don't have any right to be anywhere but where we are. We made some mistakes but luckily, we might be big enough (in terms of fan base) to get out of it eventually.
But some fans really need to get a grip:
Those saying 'we need a 20 goal a season striker' need to get some brains. Every eff'ing club in the world wants/needs a 20 goal a season striker!
And 'the players on free transfers are all dodgy' - Roberto Baggio, Steve McManaman, Sol Cambell, Pirlo and Ramos were all free eff'ing transfers so it's not as simple as 'they're free, something is wrong with them'.

Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good retort! You’re right, of course.

I did think exactly what you said as I was typing but still, just because they’re out of contract doesn’t necessarily mean they’re poor or trouble.

Connor Wickham is one of those that has had some fairly big transfers (in terms of £££) over the years but never quite worked out. I think he might be worth a risk... as is Norman IMO. Wilshere - what a player but I'd only take him on a pay-as-you-play deal as he's just had one problem after another but imagine him and Ravel on form... that would be immense (but unlikely, I'll admit).
