You're not counting the two clear chances that Garrity missed, one header just wide, one shot just wide? He might have missed another with a bit of head tennis off Bradley too.

But we deserved to win, just not as easy as it looked.

That means no shots on target, zilch zero . Not difficult under those circumstances to deserve a win. Oh and guess what, Sibs can play wing back. He’s a good footballer and adapted well today.

You’re damning by faint praise. None of us know where things will go, it may end up as a play off mud fight but regardless, we are second right now, second highest goal scorers, second tightest defence. Might be an idea if you looked to positives rather than waiting for the next poor result and thus prove whatever point it is you want to make.

At least games we didn’t win I was at least entertained and we had attempts on goal. Most game we were having 20 odd attempts at goal but just couldn’t score. Add to that season mcgoldrick scored most of our goals and he couldn’t use him he could have made a real difference to Roseniors short stint. Apart from the Lincoln game I enjoyed most of the games under Rosenior now I don’t enjoy games full stop apart from to say we won a game. A season ticket is a lot of money to go to games not for the omens but more of a chore to do so and this season and last I don’t get to Friday and think get in we have a game tomorrow but I will carry on going to game regardless as that’s what us Derby fans do

I liked Liam, so positive and wanted us to play better football but “entertained ?” No way. It was pedestrian sidey backwards over coached caution .. now maybe that was about player ability and not Liams fault ? but the same conclusions with a different style can be applied to Warne. There have been in equal measure some entertaining performances but some flipping dire ones …. like most of last night…... We are so inconsistent it’s painful. Yet on the day I know these lads have it, but we just don’t see it often enough. Is it age or coaching or just flawed old champ players and others who are well … just L1 ?

Serious Question.  Cashin was very good.  I just saw Bird passing back and side and losing his player on three occasions when he very slow off the mark.  What made him stand out. ?

Because he can control a ball, tried to link with Gayle and passed with at least a semblance of accuracy. Mind you it didn’t take much to stand out tonight

  4. First 20 mins ok, set piece and Cash goal, nice. Bird and Cash standout players … as for the rest of the game ?

Horrible horrible horrible. Head tennis, poor passing, the lack of basic ball control from so many players was embarrassing.

Silly mistakes lost us that .. but was Joe outside the box when he fouled their man ? I guess I  must have black and white glasses but he looked to be at least a foot outside his area at the moment it happened ? And their No 33 was a dirty cheating sod. However, none of that excuses the limited skills on show tonight. Need to get it sorted for Saturday. We are better than this.

    Just third division football, IMO.

I think you’re right. We get all techi about coaching, style, set up, philosophy whatever. Yet in the end so much more important is individual ability to consistently control the ball, pass accurately and anticipate situations. The level of those depends on what league you are in. We are where we are and play like it.

    Well, bugger.

A poor game between two sides who barely mustered an attractive passage of play between them. Two soft goals from corners and a decent strike from a bloke given acres of space and all the time in the world to pick his spot.

A lot of huff and puff from us but so many flunked passes and moves stillborn through a lack of care.

Bolton did us a favour. Please, please let's get back to 433 on Tuesday.

I think that’s the point when everyone gets pro or anti Warne. .. The poor passes, the missed opportunities. Is that really a lousy manager or coaching ethic ? Or is it just ability mixed with a rough day ?

Anyway, tough game, got nothing, probably deserved a point, didn’t get one, neither did Bolton. That’s football. … need 3 next game. Not much else to say except Bradley has shed his whipping boy mantle, which poor effer is next I wonder ?

Why did you have to say that?
all really positive then a pointless dig

Yes, it probably was a dig. But so are the dire posts like January window debacle, or only scouting in Rotherham or abject failure to sign players or only signs ones that get crocked and all the mountain of spoil that comes from half a dozen posters who just can’t resist getting their JCB back hoe loaders out at soonest opportunity. It isn’t nice, probably not necessary but it is the Newtonian equal and opposite reaction.

Looking at some Stoke forums and pages, it seems like he might need a confidence boost. They say when he started there, he found the back of the net just about every game but was always pulled up for offside. They think that affected him hence his low goals per game return. Hopefully, he gets one go in off his arse 1st game and then starts to fly. Interesting to see if he's preferred over the now almost fit again Waggy.

It’s an interesting thing about aging strikers .. always looking for the half yard they haven’t got any longer, Collo, Benty and others I am sure, it just happens . Get caught offside not because they are daft, just hunters instincts I suppose

It could be worse. We could be talking about NML.

Fear not faithful Rams  - a little bit of “outside the box” management thinking and all will be tickety boo.

You knew about Dwight and you didn’t tell us .. spoil sport 🤪

  10. It’s crazy, I know so little about him but if he’s got a touch, which it seems he has, then he will thrive with us. Bird, NML, Nyambe and others in our team have the ability to think fast and play the unusual ball. We have lacked players that can read these things and get on a wave length. From what others have said DG might be the man. Let’s get him fit, sharp and in the fight asap.

With a 4 year contract,  all of the hype behind his appointment and a 5 year plan, the standards are higher than that.

The number of supporters he has wrapped around his little finger is bloody bizarre to me.

We don't play in equal parts  either. It's 7 parts tedium where it's not clear what we're supposed to be doing, to 3 parts excitement when playrs remember just how good they are.

I don’t think he’s wrapped anyone round his fingers. There isn’t one Warne supporter on here who thinks he’s Jim Smith or Brian Clough incarnate.

Most of us who dismiss the pathetic unworthy criticisms aren’t wrapped round any fingers. There is the simple acknowledgment that we have a manager who is getting results. He isn’t running away with the league (no one is ! ) he does make mistakes (they all will) he has restricted choices but is playing his hand pretty well .. not exceptionally, not genius but he doing a job and developing the squad and tactics as the universe unfolds. He’s on target

It was telling in his interview when he mentioned the Derby and the fans have made him enjoy playing football which is telling to how Cardiff treated him. Reckon he’s one player who will be pushing for a permanent transfer

What I liked was the bubbling enthusiasm and the way he said “me and I” rather than the usual pre scripted and instructed  PC “we” That and the honesty that he recognised he’d been caught napping a couple of times and he needed to get sharper. That’s real. Really hope we can sign him properly.

Was there a lesson to be learned at PP today?

The crowd really seemed to step it up mid way through the second half and the team seemed to respond, maybe we have a role to play in the run in?

I really believe today that the crowd got us over the line. All the players burned their reserves, the manager responded to leaks in the system but the whole ground lifted as the half progressed. The lads responded in kind, dug deep, kept trying - for themselves and us. It paid off.

it wasn’t my choice of football style but circumstances dictate that sometimes and you just have to accept a poor hand. It’s was a grubby match but every player gave his all and Pride Park sensed it.

Really pleased for Sibs, Adams is such an honest player, back 3 were all monumental. COYR.

You do remember what happened to that billy davies team after promotion...

Also, why is it one or the other? It is possible to play some form of decent football and get results

Do you listen to anyone ? The academy was stripped of its best talent. The EFL are dictating who and what we can sign, our owner doesn’t have borrowed money to spend. Top line strikers or players in their prime are not available to teams in this position.

We faced a physical team today and went face to face in the first half and kept them at bay. We then altered our set up and beat them. We did that with the help of a cracking crowd, a manager who was initially tentative because of player shortages in key positions but had the nous to have a plan B . We were all over them for the last 20. It wasn’t pretty for an hour, I didn’t enjoy the football but just maybe it was because we were playing cheating thugs. I wonder what would have happened if we’d been given a pen when Elder was bear hugged in the box as a cross came in ?

The forum doesn’t need the last two words mate. You’d made your point 👍

Yes it does … and why ? … because the “opposition” seem quite comfortable with using descriptions like clown, PE teacher, Small time manager. You reap what you sow. .There will always be an equal an opposite reaction.

I get really stroppy these days and am considering bowing out because the anti Warne stuff from about half a dozen posters is so toxic and inaccurate, it disturbs my karma. I wonder if you would caution those who say clown or describe our manager as inept or make mockery of his desire to have honest players with heart and character rather than just money grabbers after a pay cheque

Not having a go at you personally but just pointing out that it is a two way street.

We were nearly gone 18 months ago. Now we are in second place and have just won 3 tough points with a fantastic supportive crowd, yet because of the dripping poison from a certain merry band this is a 10 year forum low for me. It isn’t about folk having ideas or opinions or differing views, it’s a mindset that’s ugly and needs to be challenged. So well done @Stive Pesley

You imagined what I was referring to as expectations as winning the FA Cup in a mocking tone.

You could have asked what I meant or read countless posts by various posters on this matter referring to a) style of play and b) progress beyond promotion.

Not in the context you are claiming. Oooh wait !  I can add one of those new trite little phrases .. Don’t “gaslight” me 🤣

What actually occurred was you said Warne was ok for a club with low to medium expectations. I disagreed and said that PW has been given a target of getting us promoted which is not a low medium expectation. I then added the FA cup comment as very obvious irony.  .. very much as you did with your “lovely” jibe earlier in our spat. Pot and Kettle.

Your misuse of straw man when I quite specifically addressed the points you raised just made me laugh. I have strong opinions and will voice them but despite a caustic tone at times, I always endeavour to address the argument another raises, so feel free to suggest I am dismissive and condescending (I probably meant to be ) but you can take your straw man and stuff it somewhere

By all means have the last word, I am bored now and won’t bother responding 😘

Very strange reaction to a win, you’re almost disappointed that we won?

We’re second in the table. Whether you enjoy his football or management style is a different question, but ‘big’’ sides have failed multiple times in this division. If you look at results alone, he’s actually doing a very good job. To call him a clown is a little childish in my opinion.

Be careful someone will say your being condescending

  18. 3 hours ago, sage said:

Straw man is making up an imagined scenario. I merely stopped arguing as you were being continuously rude and condescending. Not noticed this behaviour from you before and you seem to want to carry on in the same vein, so I'll say goodbye.

And this isn’t rude and condescending ?

    I didn’t imagine a scenario, I challenged your assertion regarding low/medium expectations.

I haven’t come across this facet of your character either.

  19. Edgy about this one. Collo with a dodgy knee and no named back up. Barks maybe ? Physical opponents, tension in the crowd and two managers who know each other playing mind reading. We can win but need to use our skills to the full in order to do it. Will passes be crisp with us on the front foot ? Or will it be one of those flat days where we are 5% off it and the ball doesn’t bounce for us ?

When Mac 1 was in full flight we had the odd poor game because opponents figured us out, with this team it’s like we go off the boil regardless - and unpredictably - despite what the other side does.

Thank You for dismissing other people's views again and offering strawman arguments.

    I'll leave it there.

You’re not too bad at it yourself. I note you didn’t mention my argument. That’s being straw man ! .
I defended my comment that you criticised, then gave an evidence to defend that rebuttal and then addressed your inaccurate contention of the low to medium expectation, with my counter contention.

I think you need a dictionary before you start using trite newspeak phrases like strawman. Jargon is very tiresome especially when used incorrectly.

    irrational and puerile, lovely.

I don't think he is a bad manager. I think he is a good League One manager for a club with low to medium expectations.

Well I think they are appropriate words for some of the anti arguments. The juvenile are often irrational, not sure what you mean by “lovely” Irony perchance.  That choice of words are part of my view on certain posters opinions. I know they have a view on mine and are comfortable voicing it.

I think he’s a reasonably good league 1 manager, As a pro manager he has flaws, he isn’t a genius but is doing a sound enough job so far. I don’t think your addition of “a club with low to medium expectations” is accurate because:

In the first place he is expected to and has been given the target of getting us promoted. That isn’t a “low/medium” expectation. What do you want .. an FA cup win thrown in for good measure ?

Secondly .. we are in league one, like it or not. In this position and with our MM legacy we aren’t going to get Wenger out of retirement. That isn’t lack of ambition or expectation. It’s a simple fact and honest realism.

  22. 9 minutes ago, sage said:

There you go. Suggesting 'we' are rational and 'you' are not.

I am not sure that I am doing a knee jerk them and us. I think the posts by many of the anti’s really do sound irrational. But hey ho it is a forum it’s free and open. There is also the underlying.. get a better manager thing. As if we are PL and there are so many Cloughie, Fergies, Wengers Peps, desperate to be offered the job. Liam ? How many were bemoaning the sidy backwards ?
Warne is as good as it gets at our current level. Isn’t  it interesting that now we have a midfielder of a type, in Adams, we are actually addressing one of the big complaints .. and it’s working. We won’t win every game, we may well slip back because most of our firepower is injured, that’s circumstance, not a “bad” manager.

No strikers .. not because they are all injured but because Warne didn’t do magical transfer dealings

Dont use the midfield .. not because our players were slow and lacked aggression but because Warne just plays it wide

Back 3 ? Early season was a bit dogmatic for sure but he adapted the system to the players we had

Transfers ? Come on we signed what we could with finances and controls that limited us. Players want money regardless of the draw of DCFC or PW.

I don’t have a problem criticising the manager but he hasn’t even had a full season start to finish, we are under restriction, we are a club in recovery .. yet here we are in second place, with good goals scored and the best GD. Evidence seems to suggest the dressing room has real team spirit. They are inconsistent at times but let’s be honest we have aging championship players mixed with some regular L1 players .. this is going to happen whoever was the manager. There is no logic or rationality to so much of the Warne criticisms

If you are anti .. you might prefer manager X, you might wish we had a bit more money, you might prefer 4 at the back. All reasonable, but to market that as “PW is a poor manager” is puerile.
