Here's the advice from Mrs Wolfie...

Yes at the start The carer the process is absolutely gruelling. There are lots of checks that have to be done and a really complex and in-depth assessment will need to be completed. The assessment will be the main bundle of information that is considered by the fostering panel prior to foster care has been agreed. I have often seen the impact that the process can have on potential foster carers. I would make the suggestion that they have an open and honest discussion with their supervising social worker. They need to be able to outline what they have said in the post and say that the demands made on them need to be better coordinated.

I would suggest to the person who posted this to also ask their supervising social worker who will be completing this assessment to have a flexible approach. This can be at more convenient times for both yourself and your wife and fit around work. There are at times certain companies who have a fostering friendly policy in place, which means that they have very flexible approach to their staff Managing their time around the fostering assessment. If you don’t know anything about this, I would speak to your work and if needed again, you can get the supervising social worker to write to your work just to see if they can provide you with some flexibility.

The level of contact that is being suggested is very usual given that the final order hasn’t been made. At the beginning of contact is arranged on the premise that children will return to the care of their parents. For this reason there remains a high level of contact in place. Once an order is agreed by the court the usual level of contact for children who are looked after is around one contact every six weeks and that usually lines up with the school holidays  so all I can say for now is hang in there.

If the contact goes ahead as once every fortnight, speak with the social worker for the children and see if transport can be arranged to and from the contact and that a member of the social care team can perhaps supervise the contact as well.

Hope this helps a bit. You're doing a great thing!

  2. It was just before my 40th birthday when Miss Wolfie appeared & like you, I thought I wasn't ever going to be a dad.

Don't go looking too much in books & stuff for do's & don'ts. Most of it will come naturally & in the early weeks, they normally sleep a lot of the time, so you have the space to get used to it.

The only other advice I ever give people is to get them into a routine as early as possible - and stick to it. Oh, and enjoy that wonderful smell of your new baby's head as much as you can - or was that just me?!

  3. Are you fostering through the local authority or a private organisation?. Forgive me if I've missed an obvious answer in your post @David

Only because Mrs Wolfie has many years' experience in this field via managing various social work teams (not Derbyshire) and I'll ask if she can offer any guidance or reassurance.

Pretty sure Derby & Lincoln chose to move it to spread out the games over Xmas.

    Edit: Scrap that!

    "

City’s trip to Derby County has once again been rearranged and is now scheduled to be played on Thursday 21 December (7.45pm).

Following lengthy dialogue between Derby County Football Club and their local authorities in recent weeks, we understand the initially revised date presented several local challenges, which has given us little choice but to agree to the further change.

We would like to apologise to fans for any inconvenience caused and encourage anyone who has outlaid costs for either of the two original dates to get in contact via feedback@theredimps.com."

Thanks. I did wonder if it was because F*rest are at home on Saturday.

    Far too many to mention.

I'd imagine I've yet to see at least 80 of any respectable top 100 all time classics.

I didn't see Shawshank redemption (1994) until lockdown, and now rate it as my No1.

Similar timing for the Godfathers (x3), Goodfellas, and Fight club (The latter rated as "utter rubbish".)

Superheroes, galactic battles, and fantasy stuff interest me not, so they'll never get a look in.  Same with screaming hysterical kids (Home Alone/Matilda etc) and anything slapstick and/or with Jim Carey in it.
I can cope with gore and giblets, but I don't trust my heart, so jumpy "Scary/Horror movies" are a definite no-no!  🤣

Not a fan of period drama's either, hence why Muckerette watches 'em alone, and I just come on here!  🤣

I'll give anything a go with Morgan Freeman in it, basically.

    EDIT, as a test...

From this specific top 100 list...
    https://www.imdb.com/list/ls055592025/

I've not seen 73 of 'em!

    I appreciate that won't be everyone's "Top 100"!

    Wow, I haven't seen 63/100 of those.

So many old ones though. I've probably seen most of the listed films made in the last 40 years but hardly any of the pre 1960's ones - and there are a lot of them!.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum, i'm afraid.  Absolute tosh, watched it with the wife and both think it was a waste of over two hours.  Expected better from the cast but i must need spoonfeeding i guess 😁

No offence meant. I was commenting on a lot of the negative imdb reviewers from many who literally needed to know exactly what was happening and have the film explain it to them. I liked that there was a lot of uncertainty about what was actually happening & that made it all the more realistic to me.

If that was to suddenly happen in reality, do we really expect to be kept fully informed at all times as to what is happening, why and who's doing it?

I don’t get the references to the deer and other wildlife (ie flamingoes).  Basically toys with a natural catastrophe then forgets it instantly.why does the daughter disappear without a word, why is the fantastic fallout shelter accessible and abandoned.  Hate it more because there is a groundswell that if you don’t like it it is because you a thick.

No spoilers from me, but what I will say is that it's all very well having an amazing bunker under your house - as long as you're at home (with an unlocked bunker) when it all kicks off. How annoying would that be?!

Oh, and Elon Musk isn't happy about it (no spoilers), so it should earn extra points for that alone IMO.

  7. Leave the world behind (Netflix).
A new disaster thriller about a group of people living through general weirdness and possible apocalypse.

Seriously marmite reviews on IMDb. Definite love or hate response to this one due to the lack of spoonfeeding the plot, as far as I can make out. It lets you draw your own conclusions and many people seem to hate that.
I was in the former group. This one will stay with me I think.

8.5/10 and the best film I’ve seen this year.

  8. Always good to have a different club up with the usual suspects in the Prem. West Ham, Newcastle, Brighton etc. Even if you don't like the clubs, it keeps it competitive.

I actually don't mind Villa & having beaten both Man City & Arsenal in the same week, they deserve to be mixing with the best. For now.

Precisely because of their inflation rate, with people's money being devalued, is why Bitcoin is attractive to Argentines. Previously, the banks could simply print twice as many pesos, and the value of the money is someone's pocket would halve. But that cannot be done with Bitcoin. Mathematically its supply is limited. This is why it is "the people's money". The pesos belong to the banks and they can (and do) do what they like with them. The Bitcoins belong to the people.

I understand how the economics works but I just don't see how offering your population an alternative currency which sporadically halves in value, solves the issue of a currency that, yes, devalues, but you could argue in a more predictable way.

A country that’s been an economic and monetary basket case for decades - with current inflation at 143% wants a new currency that is proven to halve its value at short notice.
    What could possibly go wrong!?……

    Everything Everywhere All At Once

A masterpiece, which melted my brain. I still can't work out how and why it works, but it does.

    John McGovern / 10.

My friend watched it and she hated it. Put me off it, will have a go now

I loved it but the Mrs didn't get on with it at all.

I've watched it again in the last couple of weeks at the gym - 40 mins cardio doesn't half fly by while you're trying to keep up with what's happening!.
