  1. Talk to me (Netflix)

Horror about a group of teens who talk to spirits via a mummified hand which they hold and say “talk to me”. Bad things then happen.

Much better than it sounds. Largely because it has deeper themes about fitting in as youngsters, peer pressure and drugs, which elevated it above a lot of “stupid people do stupid things for no reason” type horror films.

Disturbing, chilling and a good Halloween watch.

    7/10

  2. Glass Onion (Netflix)

I love Knives Out (one of may favourite whodunnits), so I was a bit disappointed the first time I watched Glass Onion. Gave it a second viewing last night and enjoyed it more.

The cast isn't as good as the first film; script not as witty & it's more frantic and less intricate but it definitely improved second time around.

Also, I've never found Edward Norton to be a great leading actor, but that might just be me.

    Anyway...

    First viewing: 5.5/10

    Second veiwing: 7/10

    Knives Out (for reference): 9/10

  3. The Lodge (SKY Movies)

"A soon-to-be stepmom is snowed in with her fiancé's two children at a remote holiday village. Just as relations begin to thaw between the trio, some strange and frightening events take place."

    Rubbish. Awful. Boring.

I was actually annoyed at this film last night and at myself for staying til the end (such as it was).

Not scary at all but that's quite minor compared to the fact that it's built on a totally stupid and nonsensical premise, followed by a twist (I do like a twist, normally) that's even more illogical and topped off by a totally unsatisfying ending that it seemed to take for ever to get to.

The worst film I've seen for a long time.

Blimey. Still mad at it. 2/10 at best, for a half decent and effective set up in first few minutes.

Venom good addition to the Marvel film series with dark undertones. 8.5/10.

Venom 2 Let there be Carnage - A big let down compared to the first. 'Humour' at times from the Venom character at times which did not really work. 5/10.

It's the injection of comedy into all the Marvel stuff that put me right off it. The first Guardians film was fun (and funny) but they clearly then decided that all their films needed to be funny.  I went right off my previously favourite character: Thor when they turned him into wacky wise-cracking Thor.

  5. Our problem that season was that we were the only really rubbish side*. This season there are 3/4 awful teams, who will all take points off each other and get above our total easily.

    * Even though I still maintain that Newcastle must have been the worst team ever - to have lost 4 points to us that season.

with all that is going on in the world if anyone thinks private number plates are a necessary expense then they should receive a six point fine just for that.

I wouldn't have thought anyone would claim they are necessary. Do you strictly only spend money on necessities?. There's more to life, surely (if you have a bit of spare cash, of course).

DCFC wouldn't exist if people didn't spend money on non-necessities that bring them pleasu...... oh, OK never mind.

each to their own, but as football fans, and I believe English men (apologies if incorrect), I think it's a great watch. It's certainly not self-promoting. There are many things that you cannot imagine. Like reporters asking Brooklyn, when about 4 years old, if his dad was having an affair and stuff. The press are scum. The reaction after 1998 red card was shocking. I forgot about how bad that was.

He comes out of it with a lot more love and respect from me. Not that he cares. The way Real Madrid and Capello treated him was disgusting and disrespectful, but the way he conducted himself throughout it speaks volumes.

Seriously, give it a watch. Just so you aren't one of those weird people who dismiss something they know nothing about.

ON documentaries, the Ricky Hatton one is good too, as is the Bryan Robson one. If you can find them.

    Of course it's self-promoting.

Are they doing it for free?. Of course not.

Is it presenting them in a positive way?. Of course it is or why agree to do it.

If that makes me "one of those weird people who dismiss something they know nothing about", then I can live with that.

No wonder you seem to swallow every conspiracy nutjob theory you come across on Youtube. Do you never question people's motivations or at least follow where the money is going?

  8. I might have mentioned this before on here but stuff like this can't be helping....:

Some friends of ours had a collision last winter. Not their fault. Open and shut case for a write-off - their 2009 high mileage Nissan Micra had taken extensive bodywork and a twisted chassis. It was a write off. 100%. No doubt whatsoever.

They were provided with a nice shiny brand new VW Polo courtesy car the day after the accident and it then took their insurance company 5 months to send an assessor out, to spend 2 minutes walking round the car and tick the write off box. Crazy.

We're all paying for pathetic stuff like this with our premiums now.

  9. Triangle of sadness (Prime Video)

A fashion model celebrity couple join an eventful cruise for the super-rich.

I really can't work out if I like this award winner from 2022 or not. It has some interesting things to say about society & some very good satirical barbs. One hilarious sequence at the yacht's Captain's dinner where it all goes pear shaped in a storm.

However, at 2 1/2 hours, it's way too long & could have achieved the same with an hour less. The first section introducing the 2 main characters is tedious and drawn out to the extreme so much that it ended up alienating me against them.

It's a weird one. A lot of people love it (imdb: 7.3) and there were parts of it that I really liked. I just felt it was up itself a bit too much. And too long.

Hard to score. Feeling generous: 6/10

Interesting fact: 109 billion people have lived and died since the dawn of humanity (192,000 years). Consider for a long time there were only a few thousand Homo sapiens roaming around.

Imagine if they all lived forever.

Imagine how packed the afterlife is.

Speaking as an introvert, that certainly doesn't sound much like heaven to me.

Started watching the Alan Partridge "Stratagem" live show on Amazon Prime last night

I've loved Partridge from day one, but I gave up at the interval - it was woeful, I barely even raised a smile

I'm a big Alan Partridge fan but I've heard this from a few people now, so I will be continuing to avoid it following your post.

Oxford are 9 pts in front.

    Portsmouth 8 ?

I always think trying to catch a team 9 pts and above is very difficult.

    But the bigger question is....

Are we really a team that looks like promotion this season?

How have the bookies got this so wrong?

Bookies just go where the money is. They’re not all Mystic Megs.
