  1. Joe, don't distribute the ball out, whack it up the field.

Cash, Nelson. Makes sure you hit it long into the corner flag area for me. Build up play? Not for me. Get it up the field.

Fozzy, I know you're a good ball playing defender, do you mind clipping it down the wing even if nobody is available?

Midfield. Don't need you, I like to bypass you at every opportunity.

Wingers, just keep pumping the ball in the box. Don't care if we have any other options just get it in the penalty area.

Collo and Wash, watch out for the ball in the sky. Try and get your neck on it.

Waggy, do what you like pal. I fluked it by signing you, top top class player.

    I've had a couple....

  2. I don't think the expectations are too high at all. The bookies and supporters saw us finish just outside the play offs with a bundled together squad and you would have thought with the investment made behind the scenes in recruitment and having a manager with plenty of league one promotions, we would definitely be challenging.

What I am really surprised at is we've brought in Mark Thomas who recruited upcoming talent to Oxford, yet our management team have decided to target older, more experienced players on higher wages. Now I'm wondering whether this is purely down to the restrictions in place by the EFL that we're still unable to target younger players in lower leagues and fees are out of the question entirely. It's these contradictions behind the scenes which does give me cause for concern. I don't get the impression Warne particularly wants to use youth unless it is an absolute last resort. The best teams always have a nice blend of youth, prime and experienced footballers. I do fear we have too many experienced players causing a lacking energy on the pitch and why we do seem to struggle against teams who will happily pass the ball around our players.

I am under the impression the resources are there for the manager to have a very successful season, resulting in high expectations. With a dross style of football and a stubborn attitude to change his ways to adapt to the players strengths currently on the field, ultimately that will be his downfall. The best managers utilise every ounce of quality from their squads. I think we've got a very competitive squad on paper vs the rest of the league. I don't think we'll see the best out of it under Warne sadly.

  3. I don't blame DC for appointing Warne, people who seem to be pointing the finger of angry power at the owner need to take a hard look in the mirror. On paper, he has to be on of the best managers for League One. He was available and we've made a big football commitment to PW and his coaching team. Unless results went completely south, the chap is going nowhere. Unfortunately I think for this team, I'm struggling to see a long term progression under this manager.

Paul Warne plays football to get results, he claims he wants entertainment but from what I've witnessed and many Rotherham supporters commenting online, this reality is a fantasy. Your old fashioned pragmatic type of manager simply does not last long at a bigger football club nowadays. Look at the top 2 teams who went up last season. Both played super football and deservedly went to the Championship. Only in complete desperation (cough Leeds) will an owner turn to a pragmatic manager to keep them from being relegated. It's a short term goal, to keep the club afloat and prevent the results from becoming worse. It's definitely not for building success longer term in the modern game. And ultimately I think this is where we'll go wrong. Supporters don't want to see pragmatic football season after season, that's not the way football works anymore. Style of play does matter to me, maybe I'm in the minority but I want to see Derby County try and play something eye catching. After all the crap we've endured, I would love nothing more than some crisp passing and build up play and blow some teams out of the water.

Warne had the chance to evolve the playing style over the summer and after a few games, it's like watching the same team from 6 months ago. I really want him to shut me up, prove to me he can play exciting counter attacking football most weeks. But he hasn't. Granted, he's got plenty more opportunities and I've seen us start worse and still had a good season. I would love it if he came out firing and we played the sexy exciting football. Sadly in 6 months I've seen 2 good performances. One was the final game of last season and the other was last weekend.

He really needs rethink the situation or more people will unfortunately start to lose patience.

The squad McClaren inherited took 4-5 years to build. Rosenior built our squad in a matter of weeks having to get what he could, and with little to no thought to the future.

    That’s the point.

McClaren was able to come in and raise levels so quickly, one because he is a very good coach but also largely because all of the hard work and laying of foundations had been done and the blood, sweat and tears had been wiped away.

We are still in the blood, sweat and (a lot of) tears stage. So maybe that’s the reason why Warne hasn’t had the same impact as McClaren - because the squad still requires a lot of work due to the restrictions in place, and perhaps he will have to build those foundations.

I agree that this squad needs time to build. Mac was fortunate those football relationships were built by the previous manager. The major difference is Warne had a clear choice and he wants to play the way he's always played and not evolve. He can choose to try and play easier on the eye football, something supporters can back and have sympathy if we don't particularly play well and/or get the results.

Over the summer I thought I'd see a pattern of plan and a style being formed by Warne. All I've seen so far is the same as last year and not in a good way.

The usual Saturday night toddler tantrums on here I see. If David Clowes has the sense I think he has, he will stick with Warne even if we don't go up this year.

I think when you've been watching hideous football for nearly a year with minimal progress, folks are entitled to have a constructive moan on the forum. I'd rather that then booing at the matches.

I'm usually a happy go lucky type. He's the first manager since Paul Jewell where I've openly said that he needs to go. That was 15 years ago. I'll back Warne at the matches, will I enjoy it? Not at the moment. But I'll always back the 11 on the field no matter what.

  6. When I saw Warne at Rotherham I thought fair enough, he has to play more ugly football due to his budget constraints and being a manager at a smaller stature club. I thought he hit a ceiling with them and did a good job. I was certain he would step it up with us. Bigger club, high expectations, intergrate his more pragmatic style with our tidy and technically solid football. A good fusion. In reality, his football is horrible to watch, his stubbornness and inability to evolve kick and lump it is starting to pee alot of supporters off.

I've hardly seen any games home or away under his tenure where I've thought we have completely dominated matches. Even when we had that steady run of clean sheets, the matches were really drab and tedious affairs. We never really controlled the play, but the majority of opposition were mid to lower table crap which meant our defence barely had much to do. He has relied on individual brilliance (Dizzy and now Waghorn) to constantly bail him out. I look at all the good sides I've watched over the years and I think yes, we've had quality players head and shoulders above the rest of the squad at times, more importantly the team always stood out as a brilliant unit. Watching Paul Warne set out his team, I'm hoping for a piece of magic for 5 minutes to get us the 3 points every week. That is nowhere good enough, especially as we are one of the big teams in this division.

His persistence to try and play wing backs is getting laughable. I'm depressingly admiring him for being so stubborn that he wants his precious 3 5 2 to work. It hasn't. Admit it. Every bleedin time he reverts to that system, we look even worse and our shape is a complete mess off the ball. I'll admit I have underestimated how many League One teams get the ball down and keep the ball well. We can't get near teams at times and it's a shambles. In my head we cannot get rid of him because he'll cost too much in compo and his long contract was given for a reason to stabilise the club. My DCFC heart says get rid of this chap, a manager completely out of his footballing depth. The media love him and bluntly, I do not care. Be a good football manager first then make me laugh 👍

Even though Rosenior had a horrid away record, at least I could see what he was trying to do. Possession football, dominating teams. We were battering some teams away from home, we just couldn't quite get it in the net. Over more time, averages say all them shots would have meant goals eventually. I could get behind the project as a supporter. I am reaching deep down to support Warneball. When I watch the team, we are all over the place with no clear plan other than an obsessive nature to cross the ball constantly with no build up play. Even if by some miracle we gain promotion, I'd have limited confidence in this manager to take us further. Where would we go in the Championship? Try and ping it 50 yards whilst all the teams pass rings around us.

I'd sack this muppet tomorrow but he has to stay because we've committed to him. We've made that decision so the club needs to stick. A real shame.

  7. As much as that interview made The Green Mile look like a comedy, I do feel bad for the chap.

Coming off a big long injury, played really well for his hometown club for 18 months beforehand. His manager tells him he'll be in his plans for the weekend, gets the player excited. Behind the scenes a deal at Sunderland, we've enquired about him and now for whatever reason, they think it's better for him to gain some fitness here.

I'm guessing this move came out of the blue and it's been a very long day or so for him. Escaping Sunderland into the 21st century must have been a shock as well.

    Welcome to Derby 🐏🐏🐏

  8. I'm puzzled why people seem to think why Lucy Letby is an innocent person. Unless all the whistleblowing and planting of fake diaries was a big conspiracy against her, which I highly doubt. The key for me is the lack of emotion. If you'd been innocent of this crime, you'd be horrified and sobbing throughout the trial. She showed no emotion, lacked cooperation and to top it off didn't even appear for her sentencing.

I have known a couple of awful individuals who don't look on the face to be bad people. A lad I went to school with was convicted of raping a teenage boy. I would have never I thought he was the kind of person to commit something horrific. Very bright, would help you out if needed. Popular kid. All of a sudden 15 years later you see his name in the paper. Another friend I went to school with, her father was caught with indecent images of children on his computer. Again, he appeared to be a good family man who was popular with the parents.

What I'm trying to say in a long winded way is not all serious criminals are unemployed, tracksuit wearing druggies who live in council flats. People with a seemingly good upbringing can still commit horrible crimes. We can't judge people just because they look charming and are up the social hierarchy.

  9. "Apart from Declan Rice we've got no number 6's apart from Kalvin Phillips"

Are we ignoring Angel Gomes who was solid for Lille last season? Oh sorry, I forgot he doesn't pick players abroad unless it's a last resort. That is what it feels like with Tomori. Southgate's pal Dier doesn't get in the Spurs squad, Coady and Stones are injured. Oh no, I have to pick one of best Serie A centre backs, what do you mean they don't play Premier League football?

    It stinks.

I know, whatever were we thinking when we spent 1 million on a 29/30 year old Steve Howard.

It's a different era though. Look at most of the successful teams nowadays. They scout and buy younger players and turn a profit by selling them to keep afloat of FFP rules.

We need to go to that model and not spend big fees on prime aged footballers. Everyone thinks a million quid isn't a lot of money. For league one that's a big fee. Unless we fund the move from a Cashin sale then I'm completely against the idea. We've got to balance the books properly.
