Whilst there is no escaping it's been a poor start to the season, I can't believe we're here already *checks date* 17th August throwing replacement names into the hat.

Just feels wrong you know, with no reports suggesting there is any possible departure on the horizon.

3 league games into a season where he's had chance to bring his own players, is that where we're at now, 3 games and any patience completely evaporates?

Let's say Warne was sacked today, we then have 2 weeks to find a replacement and make any adjustments to the squad before the window closes.

Oh, and figure out compensation for a whopping contract. It just makes zero sense unless Warne has completely lost the dressing room, do we honestly believe he has?

Or is it just a case of a half a new team trying to gel together and put Warne's plan into place on the pitch, in which case give the bloke some time and climb down off his back.

I agree that we can't start replacing the manager, I'd argue we need to keep him until the end of the season and evaluate from there, unless it turned really dire.

What I think is not helping is it is difficult for supporters to ignore the last third of the previous season where the team weren't good enough and blew the playoff chances. PW giving messages in interviews of how he wants his teams to play with high intensity, yet it's very obvious early on the two 2 centre backs we've bought in are past their prime and cannot play a high line because they're too slow, as an example. Retaining the ball is atrocious and this is a classic to hack supporters off.

We are going to have to learn to grit our teeth because we've signed this chap up for the long term. Unless we end up in the bottom half 12-15 games in, he's going nowhere. I don't see any alternatives other to stick at it for a season.

  2. I feel much of the anger and frustration has been bottled up from the back end of last season and because of the poor start, many supporters have released their emotions on the manager, I don't blame them to be honest.

It is difficult for supporters to get behind a team who aren't playing well and the football being presented is horrid. This is why the likes of Pulis, Bruce, Allardyce etc. receive really poor reactions from fans when their teams start losing games. The pretty on the eye managers tend to get more time because at least they're trying to entertain even if the results don't match the performance. I think we are all baffled as to why Warne is known for playing high intensity football yet 2 of his 3 centre backs cannot run and play a high line, hence there's questions on recruitment and manager tactics.

Built up anger has finally exploded unfortunately.

Over 5 seasons promoted, relegated, promoted, relegated, promoted. There are 2 ways to view the 2 relegations, IMO.

    1. He isn't up to coaching in the SBC or

    2. The Millers didn't have the money to pay for the players he wanted / Rotherham wasn't a big enough draw for players / both

When he left Rotherham to come to us last season they were in 8th. Does that mean 2. above is the more likely?

On paper he recruited well. Most fans seemed to be of that opinion until the "proper" games started. Unfortunately, football is played on grass, not on paper. Every new signing is a gamble that may, or may not, come off. The measure of PW will be to see if he can take the current situation and turn it round into something resembling the confidence everybody seemed to have going into the season.

On the start, we've never done better than 2 wins from the opening 6 games in any season in which we won the League or got promoted. We have a 2 in 7 (1975) and two 2 in 8s. The rest were all 2 in 6.

Also remember 2 years ago. the Dogs down the road lost their opening 7 and went up...

    And changed the manager 🤣

  4. Love me some Bucko but he couldn't get Burton going.

Paul Simpson is definitely worth a look at. I know he hasn't had the best track record in management although he certainly has proven himself at Carlisle.

Can't see Chris Wilder coming here. I find him similar to Warne to be honest (abit of a knob).

  5. Doesn't this whole saga just prove having a "good style of football" can really be a huge difference in support? I used to think style of play did not matter as long as you get results. After watching most of last season and the beginning of this season under Warne, I have changed my mind. I could see what Rosenior was trying to do, and we still were creating loads of chances but had nobody to stick it in the net. Now we are playing horrible football and not getting results at home, yet.

For some reason, in my mind, I thought Warne would have this Jurgen Klopp high press, blistering pace countering attacking team which would be devastating, especially away from home. And it has turned out to be the opposite. It genuinely is like watching football from 30 years ago. Kick it wide, cross cross cross. And we haven't recruited many athletic players for the counter attack either. How many teams actually play like that nowadays, even in our league? It has surprised me how many teams can get the ball down and knock it around comfortably along the pitch, which is making us look very amateur out of possession. It really is looking like Dizzy saved PW from humiliation last season.

The most sensible thing the club can do at this point is wait until the end of the season. Live by our decisions and take the medicine if we fail. We're definitely not going down, even we can beat the complete dross near the foot of the table. Warne seems like the honourable bloke to resign if he didn't achieve what he set out to do. As painful as it might be, for the sake of the club's finances, stick it out with the manager. You never know, by some miracle we might turn the ship around. I think the manager has realised his dream formation and system has failed 3 times now. Drop the ego and play a way which gains the most out of the players we have now.

  6. I'm not surprised. Warne has always been able to beat teams like Burton comfortably however any team who can play it along the fresh green grass is a massive struggle.

Yet again, poor first half, out of ideas and the usual play of get it wide and try and cross. Of course, it never worked since Oxford have a little bit of quality to work this out. Second half was better and we was unlucky not to score the equaliser near the end.

This doesn't excuse how poor we played the ball today. The defence gave away far too many passes. It's becoming very clear that Bradley and Nelson cannot pass a football under pressure. Bradley getting hauled off yet again is very telling. Marque signing and hasn't settled yet. He doesn't want to be in league one, mate you don't deserve League two football at the minute with your performances. Get a grip.

To lose 3 home games in a row just builds major pressure. He needs to get back to 4 3 3 and stop persisting with his wing back nonsense or he'll end up getting more boos sadly.

  7. Warne has pretty much echoed everything I thought about the last 3 games. It is not as if he's trying to cover it up with the usual manager phoned in answers (new team, time to gel, we go again etc etc). That would hack me off. Genuinely feelings, a good self awareness around the club. Nothing wrong with this. All the issues I think we have in the squad, Warne identified and knows what we require.

I have a feeling the penny dropped a little bit for him this week. At Rotherham if he had a bad run, he'd get away with it because there's little expectations. Coming to a much bigger club, with his pretty mediocre home record from the back of last season through to this season, fans are going to naturally become more frustrated. Bigger wage bill, bigger facilities, you have got to perform. As much as we want to believe it, time isn't on a manager's side.

We replaced an upcoming future manager, who wasn't getting much stick from our supporters because of the good reputation he built, with a more experienced outside name. If we was struggling near the foot of the table, I think Warne would get more credit. But because he's come in, with a squad which looks competitive on paper, there's more demand on him to succeed.

The main thing I want from Warne short term is to start winning more matches against those top 8/9 teams. We was dreadful in the majority of those matches last season and it ultimately cost us. His record against the little teams near the bottom have rarely cause us problems, we seem to beat these comfortably.

It's always been a niggle in the back of my mind. Why did he never keep Rotherham up, was it down to purely budget or his record against "better sides". I just want him to prove me wrong and get us firing.

  8. Thought Warne's post match comments were spot on. He didn't look too upbeat or negative. I'm assuming some relief because if today went a bit sour then he'd be right up against the wall. I had the feeling from management 3-0 is probably what is expected of us, considering the teams at the top are hammering the lesser sides.

Have to consider this is Burton's biggest game of the season and they did nothing 2nd half. As much as PW bumbled along on his interview on Tuesday, I think somehow it fired up Bird and a few others. Birdy looked superb today. A shame he fluffed his lines up when he had that easy chance.

Hopefully we can get some good results against those bigger sides now. Our achilles heel last season. Fingers crossed 🤞
