  1. Top performance that & an excellent result

Korey Smith's best game for us surely - oozed class on the ball, got through plenty of defensive work & thoroughly deserved his goal. Bird was obviously just coming back from injury but some sublime touches from him - along with Fornah, made for a very effective midfield even though Blackpool kept the ball very well at times. Lads at the back were also immense - Cashin & Nelson very strong, Nyambe continues to really impress & Forsyth did well against CJ Hamilton's pace.

Fantastic options off the bench too - Barkhuizen, Waghorn, Sibley, Hourihane & Bradley and all contributed to getting us over the line. Now injuries are starting to clear up, it's time for us to start stringing together results & firmly embed ourselves in the top 6.

Fans class tonight by the way - well done everyone who travelled. Made a right racket 👏🐏

From what I’ve heard, you can easily say the same for how the supposed “fan consultation” that happened in July was subject to only RamsTrust members. it’s quite interesting after RamsTrust secretary commented about how 60k fans were consulted, then changed to 26k and only 30-40 (can’t remember the exact figure) responded. I had seen that RamsTrust had circulated the email they received around its members so I think fans who are not in RamsTrust have every right to be sceptical of how the “process of consultation” was done when you only need to read comments made by Derby fans on social media and also use the poll as good idea of how fans would like to be consulted or simply oppose the idea.

The club made a communication to all fans inviting views on the Supporters Board & provided a framework for how it might look - this was on their main website (link below) & social media channels in July. Where have you got the idea that only RamsTrust members were consulted? That's totally incorrect.

  3. Like a few others on here, I’m confused why anyone wouldn’t want a Supporters Board.

BAWT have been open about opposing the Supporters Board & I’d be interested to know exactly why that is – seems like they’re trying to deny Derby fans the right to representation. Furthermore, I’m extremely sceptical that any poll run by BAWT would be the right & proper channel to express fan views given that a) any fan can vote on a Twitter/X poll – including presumably Forest fans & b) as BAWT are opposed to the SB, the possibility of gerrymandering results can’t be discounted.

Attempts to canvas fan views should be conducted without slanted questions & divisive rhetoric on social media – the club did this exercise correctly in July by communicating the proposed structure & inviting questions & comments from all fans. Interesting also that we have a couple of new members on this thread expressing the BAWT view – strikes me as a propaganda exercise from that particular group.

As to the general principle of the Supporters Board, some of the proposed powers of the SB would have stopped the excesses of the Morris regime – specifically stopping the sale of Pride Park & having access to the accounts. These strike me as sensible & the fact the club are interested in moving forward with this should reassure those who are on the fence.

Maybe because he has achieved promotion in league 1 three times and on each occasion his team started the season slowly...perhaps the boss has placed an equal emphasis on both of these aims.

As I've said,I'm no fan of the football but clowes took him on to both steady and repair the club and achieve promotion in the medium term.

In his time at Rotherham he achieved both of those goals so you can see where the owner was coming from when he employed PW.

Unless we are looking at relegation he's going nowhere.

The 'promotion out of League One 3 times' line is fast becoming redundant - it can't override how we're seeing this team & this club perform under Warne.

Nigel Pearson built a fantastic team at Leicester, took them up, kept them up & that team was the basis of PL Champions the following year. It still didn't work for him at Derby.

Philip Cocu won the league 3 times at PSV Eindhoven & managed in Europe. It still didn't work for him at Derby.

We're 12 months into Warne's reign & he has had 2 transfer windows to mould his squad. We have not improved in that time & I would disagree with you that 'looking at relegation' would be the only criteria for his removal. He would be gone way before that is even considered a possibility. The signings he has made & the style of play he is employing is not 'repairing the club' - it is having the exact opposite effect.

Obviously circumstances are never going to be exactly the same, but it doesn’t change the point that it takes time to recover.

Leeds and Southampton had their own problems, but equally they will have had privileges we have been without too.

Southampton signed Lambert for £1 million during their first summer in League 1, for instance and spent £3-4 million across two transfer windows in 2009-10.

Something we can only dream of, at present…

No, we probably won't be paying £1m for a player anytime soon but lets not pretend Warne is operating on a shoestring budget compared to our League One promotion rivals. Clowes says he has a good budget in relation to this division, we brought in players from higher divisions this summer & continue to have high wage earners like Hourihane on the books.

You've sidestepped the point that the clubs you referenced either outperformed Derby under Warne in their first season at this level and/or showed consistent improvement thereafter (albeit two had to fire a manager after 12 months in L1 to achieve this). Maybe you could help explain why we haven't improved in the past 12 months & why we shouldn't mirror Leeds/Southampton by firing Warne?

Perhaps a fairer comparison is other clubs who have come out of administration and bounced back from relegation?

It took Leeds three seasons to get promoted out of League 1 following administration and relegation. It took Southampton two seasons. Bolton suffered back to back relegations and are now into their fourth campaign in five in League 1.

Yes, the football isn’t great at the moment but the club is in recovery mode and perhaps we have to be realistic about those timescales. Expecting us to get promoted playing champagne football at this stage in our recovery is only something you might witness in a fairytale.

    Interesting comparisons you've made there.

First obvious comment is that both Leeds & Southampton had points deductions in their first season in League One - 15 for Leeds & 10 for Southampton. Leeds were still able to finish 5th that first season (91 points before deductions) & Southampton finished 7th (83 points before deductions) - both better than Warne could manage in his first season. Pointing to the number of seasons they spent in League One has to be seen in the context of the disadvantages they had that we didn't.

Despite that, both Leeds & Southampton fired their managers the following season after 12 months in charge (Gary McAllister & Alan Pardew), before making the ultimate appointments that took them up (Simon Grayson & Nigel Adkins). Probably a lesson in there somewhere.

Re Bolton, this is their 3rd season in League One after being promoted from League Two - they weren't a Championship step down. They've come from a long way further back than us but have shown consistent improvement since returning - 9th in 2021/22 and 5th 2022/23. By contrast, I don't think even you would argue Derby have improved in the 12 months Warne has been in charge.

17 MANAGERS IN 16 YEARS HAS GOT US TO WHERE WE ARE NOW....

I think it was more to do with employing managers with totally different playing styles that got us into this state & we've done it again by replacing Rosenior with Warne. The only way Warne succeeds is by having a total overhaul of this playing squad & replacing them with athletes but this is expensive & going to take at least another year or two - its fair to say there is not the patience within the fanbase to allow Warne to coast to another sub-standard league finish in the meantime.

We need a pragmatist who takes on the squad & instils the most effective style to suit those players - Warne has demonstrated he is not capable or willing to do this. We are overseeing a misuse of talent & a deterioration in the quality of play whilst results are still disappointing. Crowds are going drop whilst a) the football is as poor as it has been recently & b) we are showing little sign of mounting a promotion challenge. Whilst many can forgive boring football, they will not forgive that in tandem with poor results - particularly in a division where Derby's revenue exceeds every other club.

To the general topic, replacing Warne will be painful financially but I would argue it would be more ruinous letting crowds slide & allowing Warne to waste money bringing in more Sonny Bradleys & Conor Washingtons. The budget will probably mean we have to look at managers out of work - I would be very happy with Mark Warburton, who did a very good job at Brentford & did an under-rated job reviving QPR - his football is also easy on the eye & would suit our squad I believe. Chris Wilder is a pragmatist at heart - played some great stuff with Sheffield Utd on the way to the Prem & then reverted to a more agricultural style whilst there - his overall record is superb & I think he would be very capable of taking us up quickly.

  8. I've not the slightest doubt we will. OK, we're not in a great place at the minute & seeing the treetards monopolising their moment in the sun isn't helping but football has always been cyclical.

Luton dropped into non-league & were there for 5 years - they're now top division. Brighton were on the verge of dropping out of the League - they're now in the Europa League. Coventry were homeless & in League Two but 4 months ago were on the verge of going back to the top flight. Things can change very quickly in football & we've seen that ourselves - we went from nearly bankrupt in Division 3 in 1984 to a UEFA Cup spot by 1989.

The most important commodity for success isn't money, it's stability & establishing a consistent club ethos focusing on marginal gains. Notwithstanding doubts about the current manager, the infrastructure being built by the club is exactly what we need to be consistently successful over the long term. I suspect when our time does come, we will absolutely fly. Keep the faith 🐏💪

I think the Plymouth game at home really dented Liam’s prospects.

I think it was Lincoln away that did for him & we were poor that night. Unfortunately for Liam, we hadnt converted dominance into goals in the previous 3 away league games (Charlton, Shrewsbury & Fleetwood) and so the narrative of us being impotent away from home was born. Richie Barker even made reference to it in an interview pre-Bolton...brass neck of him to come out with that & then deliver that garbage yesterday.

Rosenior leaving felt at the time & still does as a massive missed opportunity. I don't necessarily think we would've gone up last season but I think the foundations would be much stronger than they are now. Possession based football takes longer to implement (certainly more than the 8 games he got) but has a much higher chance of long term success. He also had connections higher up the pyramid (which he leveraged to bring in quality players) & an obvious affinity with the youth ranks. He was the man to help rebuild the club on the pitch.

Instead we brought in Captain Pinball, with all the fanfare about his 'promotion record' only to spend the last 12 months being finger-wagged that we shouldnt expect promotion & how he always needs another 6 months from the point at which he is questioned. We've gone backwards since Sep 2022 & that is a damning indictment on his appointment.

Who would you want to replace him? I am one of the give him till Xmas brigade, but I am wavering. Still think we should have kept Liam.

Rosenior's Hull side won away at Leicester today & now sit in the top 6. This club's relentless ability to self sabotage never fails to disappoint.

I suspect his replacement will be hanging around for most of this season whilst we wind down his contract, hoping we can bludgeon our way out of this division. If Sonny Bradley is his way of utilising the budget wisely though, I don't want him trusted with anymore club money. Give Mark Thomas full control of incomings & tell Warne to either work with the players or leave.

  11. Days like this make supporting this rabble a pleasure 👌

I think the new signings must have had an effect on the first XI as the level of intensity was superb from minute 1. Unlucky to go behind, Rooney chose the wrong man to track & left their left wing to pick out Clarke Harris from 10 inches. Thereafter, went at them with Washington & Waggy running at them with the ball & pressing hard when not.

Suffice ro say the first 45 minutes were a thing of absolute beauty. My head hurt from the celebrating, loved every moment 🖤

A lot of fantastic performances & obviously Waggy takes it. I said to lad next to me before the game he's on for 25 this year, he's SO suited to this team & style of play. Three great goals & worked his backside off throughout. Big mention for Liam Thompson though...good grief, what a little player he's becoming. A tiger in front of his back 4 & a bone fide threat running into the final 3rd...the prospect of him & Fornah together is very exciting.

Back in Leeds now, few beers deep & 86 quid train ticket lighter cos of the strikes but with a silly grin on my face. Love you Derby 🖤

  12. David Clowes is & will always be a hero at this club. He was also a reluctant hero & it'll be the threat of threads like this that'll be the reason why.

Decisions can obviously be questioned - its the personalisation & need to find a blame figure that I'm struggling with, particularly aimed at someone who has gone far above & beyond any Derby fan to help the club. For example, I strongly disagreed with the decision not to offer Rosenior the full time manager position last September & the decision to hire Warne but I would never 'blame' Clowes for how its turned out. He acted in what he thought were the best interests of the club at the time & that's all you can ask. As a total novice to owning a football club, its unreasonable to expect everything to go perfectly.

He wowed people with his work at Rotherham, getting them promoted 3 times was like some sort of magic trick

That is the most misleading statement I constantly see about Warne since he landed at Derby - as you rightly say, it's almost like a magic trick at this stage. Below are Rotherham's last 9 seasons - 6 of them at Championship level & 3 of them at League One. Warne presided over 3 of those 6 Championship seasons & in every one, he relegated them. By contrast, Neil Redfearn, Neil Warnock & Matt Taylor (last season) kept them up in the respective seasons they were in charge.

    Warne's promotions were all with a recent Championship squad - he did not build it from scratch, he had an inbuilt advantage with their recent division & returned them to where they had generally been. Stating 'promoted three times' sounds like successive promotions when in reality it was correcting his own poor performance from the season previously;

    image.thumb.png.4a0b72f7b3857ecdc514ce41d4d1aa08.png

As to the general point about Warne's future, the atmosphere both in the ground & on social media suggest he is very much living on borrowed time. His failure to reach the playoffs in May was met with a very muted reaction as people seemed to believe the summer would allow him to put his imprint on the squad both from a personnel & a tactical standpoint. Having shown such patience after throwing away a playoff spot in Feb/March, there now appears to be delayed anger at the very poor start & I can't say I'm surprised.

Obviously the recruitment situation hasn't totally played out until the window closes but I have been thoroughly confused as to the direction of travel. We needed pace throughout the team, we needed midfield aggression & we have not addressed either. Warne's teams like to press high but we buy slow defenders who struggle against the counter attack. We lose a pivotal forward who gave us goals & creativity & replace him belatedly with two burly workhorses up top. Clowes says he has the budget to compete & I would trust that - Warne by contrast is now speaking in riddles on the radio about private reasons why all isn't as it seems. Not the kind of comments to help your future employment prospects when your team is playing so badly.
