I'm off to Thailand in late November. Got one night stopovers in each direction in Abu Dhabi. 12 nights accom cost me £160.

I'm off to the island of Koh Chang. The last few nights will be spent at Rasta View Bungalows. I may come back slightly spent.

Hope they don’t work you too hard.

got back from Sidari, Corfu yesterday morning. Having never really heard about the place, I went with an open mind. It was my kind of place, ideal for couples (I went with GF and another married couple). I recommend it as it's beautiful (google Canal D'Amour) and you get so much value for money.

I go to Stalis, Crete in a couple of weeks. Cannot wait.

Cabal D'Amour sounds like the kind of place to make a proposal.

Are we to expect Mostyn wedding bells?

Either way, glad you had a good time though you missed our upturn in form

it was quite a pretty place all around, but the cove that is Canal D'amour is a tourist attraction and understandably so. Our hotel room overlooked it and I've never been one to get carried away with "view" etc, but I was taken aback by the sunsets there.

No wedding bells any time soon, but I daren't say that too loudly, otherwise bottom-lips will be expanding.

I did however, along with my West Brom supporting mate, head out to the strip for an afternoon of Gillette Soccer Saturday and Greek Cider in our new home kit (top). Glad we won so convincingly though.

£160!!  Wow.  Dare I ask where? And does this come with a special wake up each morning?

My brother lives in Thailand - if you're anywhere near Pattaya I'm sure he'd recommend some places to visit

Flew back from Corfu a couple of weeks ago (aforementioned cruise - which was awesome). First and last time I think I'll go through that airport. 45 minutes queuing outside in the heat, then another 45 minutes inside, just to check in the suitcases. Then 25 minutes in a stairwell at boarding, waiting for a bus to do a 200 yd u-turn to drop us at the plane. Was told by someone this is pretty much business as usual there.

Ha HA I Won't be going to Pattaya. I'm off to an Island called Koh Chang. It's like the Caribbean was in my mind before I went there. Cheap, laid back, wooden shacks on the beach. Lovely.

It's horrendous. Mondays and Thursdays the worst days.

Thailand is an amazing place, the people are lovely, loads of waterfalls, temples, beaches, tiny islands, If they and cricket and decent beer I'd move there

My brother's lived and worked there for nigh on 30 years. Aside from the infamous side of Thailand, I agree there's load of amazing stuff there.  When we were over several years ago, my brother took us to lots of places off the beaten track - beautiful.  Went through a jungle trail and came out to this amazing temple area - white temples topped with gold.  Breath-taking.  Also ate at local Thai restaurants, not the tourist ones. Amazing food at a fraction of the cost. Did a trip to one of those islands you mention - the crew dived off the boat, speared squid and fish, then cooked it fresh in front of us, washed down with ice cold Singha and Chang beer.  Ah, fond memories.

  • 4 weeks later...

Off to Ghent for the last week of October, for an unexpected 6 night camping trip, with the boss (plus wives of course).
Other than the fact I've only just taken my roof box off after returning 8 days ago from a 3 week camping trip to the South of France, I'm actually quite at peace with this latest plan of his, and hold no grudges against him!

I do love a boss who doesn't keep count of holiday entitlement!  😁😎

So you went with the boss and his boss, plus your real boss?

As someone who is clueless about camping, what happens on a trip like the one in October? After you've woken up, what happens next? Do you have to dismantle everything until you've gone somewhere else? Or is it all in the same place? Assuming you can't lock a tent, do you just leave it unattended all day? See, I've genuinely no idea how it works 😀

I've got to my 60s, and have never been inside a tent (other than a huge marquee type thing). I've never been in a caravan either.

I should probably try it before knocking it. Well, I'm not knocking it as such. Just puzzled by it.

I can't imagine how much money I'd have to be getting paid to go camping, either on my own, or with anyone else, and especially my boss!

Lovely city.

Try the following bars...

Geus Van Gent, Barrazza and De Dulle Griet.

Also worth a visit is Gruut Brewery.  Gruut beers don't use hops for bittering - they use a mix of herbs and spices. A personal favourite is Gruut Inferno - an easy-drinking tripel.

My personal favourite brewery in the area is Van Steenberge (Gulden Draak, Piraat, Bornem, Brigand etc), but tours there have to be pre-booked.

Enjoy.

Planning on going camping next month as well, got a week off work so a few days in a field with me, the dog and a frying pan.

Camping is great, it's not for everyone though. My day would pretty much consist of up, walk the dog, eat, chill and repeat.

Plenty of fresh air in the lungs, the best ones are the campsites with no mobile signal.

Try as you will to put the gadgets down, the temptation is always there to check the news which is usually all crap anyway.

If you go with a group of people, round a fire, blankets on, beer in the hand it can be great way of socialising.

You can find sites with facilities like toilets and showers so you're not a stinking mess crapping in a bin.

Some of the tents you will see are huge, saw one once with an inflatable sofa and they had a 40" TV in the porch area, each to their own but that kinda goes against the spirit of camping.
