Srg Posted August 13, 2022 Share Posted August 13, 2022 Wildsmith - 6 - didn’t actually have a lot to do despite the pressure second half. Goal was a horrid deflection. Knight - 6 - solid if unspectacular Stearman - 7 - a bit uneasy on the ball but grew into it. Cashin - 7 - body on the line every time, could’ve used it better at times second half to relieve pressure Roberts - 6 - few good moments but nothing to note really. Sibley - 6 - Positive and provides us with a better shape and goal threat, needs to keep starting. Bird - 8 - did the dirty stuff well, gave it simple after. Really mature performance. Hourihane - 7 - some brilliant deliveries. His best performance so far. Mendez-Laing - 6 - not as lively and positive as the Oxford game but a great taken goal. Barkhuizen - 7 - Best outlet first half, his best performance so far. Him and NML going to combine for goals/assists a lot this year. Collins - 5 - missed a sitter, left the ball for thin air a couple of times first half, didn’t win much in the air against the CB. Really needs that goal. Smith - 5 - Struggled to get to the pace of the game and we pretty much gave up going forward when he came on. Dobbin - 6 - looked like he tried a bit hard. Did dump a defend on his arse with a shoulder barge which was baffling given as a free kick. Forsyth - 6 - standard rating as didn’t have time to do anything. Stearman 7 Some good blocks and headers Cashin 9. Different gravy. Headed, blocked, controlled. Robust & skilful. Unlucky to be booked. MOTD by a country mile. Roberts 7.5 Solid. Simple passes. Sibley 6 Didn’t thrive in the heat. Bird 7.5 Very solid but needs help in midfield. Hourihane 7 Superb corner for the goal. Mendez-Laing 8 Pile-driver of a goal. Barkheuizen 7. Busy and effective. Collins 7.5 Unlucky not to score. Combative. Corey-Smith 6. Looks sharper but lightweight. Dobbin 6 Raw & energetic. He’ll settle. Forsyth 7 Gave reassurance in last 10 minutes. Job done against a well drilled Barnsley. No frills - we can play better. Midfield isn’t right Liam. Get in a fb and get Knight back in. Stearman 7 - Solid game, better for playing midweek. Cashin 8 - MotM, did he miss a header all match? Certainly not in the final 15 mins. Roberts 7 - steady if unspectacular. Sibley 6 - lively first half, unlucky to be subbed off for Corey-Smith. Bird 6 - steady again but needs to take charge of midfield/needs help. Hourihane 7 - getting into the groove now, some excellent deliveries. Mendez-Laing 7 - quieter than recent matches, took his goal very well though. Barkheuizen 7 - ran himself into the ground, quieter 2nd half but best game yet? Collins 6 - could have done better with his chance at 2-0. Needs a goal to get his season up and running. SUBS: Corey-Smith 5 - didnt really effect the match when he came on. Dobbin 6 - looked lively but wasn't really used as an outlet to relieve pressure. Forsyth n/a Lively first half, looked tired second half. More games will increase fitness and team cohesion. Picking up points this early in the season given where we were a few weeks ago is a bonus. Wasn't put under pressure often becaus Cashin dealt with everything. No fault for goal Knight - 6, steady enough but couldn't do anything going forward today. Stearman - 6, no major errors although as has been mentioned a bit limp their goal. Bypassed in most of our passing moves and defensively passed responsibility onto Cashin for any of the defending that actually impacted the game. Anyone giving him a 7+ is just protecting him against criticism because they're desperate to make out he's being Steargoated. Cashin - 12 (or 10 for the ratings), massively important second half, never seen a man mountain below 6ft before but he basically won us the game. Imperious. Roberts 5, did OK but every time he was asked to fill in as a CM he did something wrong. Not his position and not comfortable in our system yet. Sibley 6, First half good but some sloppy passing , second half struggled. Bird - 7, again first half suited him, second half quite anonymous but we know what he is and how he plays. Met expectations. Hourihane - 7.5, lovely passing and crossing into dangerous areas but we already know he won't do much defensively and won't be able to keep energy levels up for 90 mins. Mendez-Laing - 7.5, love him but goal aside not really up to speed today (probably the heat) and played a few more sloppy passes than I'm used to. He's present in defence but sometimes it's a token effort. Barkheuizen - 7, very good first half, worked hard second but had mostly disappeared from the game as an attacking threat. Actually think he's got a bit of Weimann about him sometimes when he runs. Collins - 6.5 missed a great chance to add this collection of great chances missed, but will cut him some slack as he worked hard. Smith - 5.5, still don't really know what he is, been around for years but I'd never heard of him before we signed him, and I can see why that is. Occasional moments of being a progressive player but plays it too save when in advanced positions. Dobbin - 5.5, no impact really and made nothing of a nice ball played down the channels late on. Knight 6.5 - Good defensively, but not much going forward. Stearman 6.5 - Stepped up, did what he had to do well. Cashin 8.5 - Best individual performance of the season. Won every header, read the game so well and is composed on the ball. Another ref might have shown him a red for that challenge though. Was slightly worried with him on a yellow, but he continued to be decisive and aggressive in his defending and didn't put a foot wrong. Roberts 6.5 - Plays some really nice passes, but occasionally seems in too much of a rush to get it forward. Sibley 6.5 - Found some really good positions, but only Hourihane wanted to find him. Bird 7 - Made some key interceptions and tackles. Will continue to get man-marked - so important for us to get him on the ball more. Hourihane 7.5 - Best he's played by far, saw his passing range and that cross for Collins was perfect. Mendez-Laing 6.5 - First two games, he was good without the end product. Then today he didn't play well but scored a good goal. Does the defensive work really well though. Barkhuizen 6.5 - In the game a lot more and a great assist. Collins 6 - Probably his poorest game, but still worked incredibly hard. Smith 5.5 - Looked lively for the first few minutes then struggled. A competent ref and he'd have given a penalty away for handball. Dobbin 5.5 - Ran around a lot but was muscled off it a few times. Like Smith struggled to change the momentum of the game.
