Day
Derby has taken a step closer in its bid to become the new home of Great British Railways (GBR). The city is one of six locations to be shortlisted from 42 expressions of interest across the UK. The chosen city will become the HQ for the new organisation which has been created to deliver a simpler, better railway for everyone in Britain. The other shortlisted cities are Birmingham, Crewe, Doncaster, Newcastle and York. Bringing GBR to Derby would be extremely beneficial for the region and would help to level up the area, which is why we’ve badged our bid and campaign as the ‘East Midlands’ vote. The winning location will also see the move of highly skilled jobs and investment outside of London into our region. Why we believe that Derby and the East Midlands is the perfect choice for GBR: One of the first great British railway towns The only city to have manufactured rolling stock continuously since 1840 The East Midlands is the geographic and strategic heart of Britain’s railway Home to Europe’s largest cluster of private-sector rail businesses A centre of railway skills with over 11,000 highly-skilled rail employees based in the Derby area and 45,000 rail-related jobs across the East Midlands During the bidding process we reached out to Local Authorities across the East Midlands and received backing from Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Leicester and Leicestershire, alongside 21 MPs from across the region. We now need your help to spread the word and help Derby and the East Midlands become the new home for GBR. Please help us by sharing our campaign with your colleagues, stakeholders, friends and family and ask them to vote for Derby! How can you help You can visit the Destination Derby website to learn more about the campaign and access our online toolkit for photos, logos and social media graphics. We’ll be sharing messaging through the Derby City Council Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook pages throughout the campaign and public vote. Please help to share these messages using #DerbyGBR and the national campaign #DestinationGBR or by sharing your own messages of support. Visit www.derbygbr.co.uk/vote to vote for Derby! This information is been shared on forum at the request of Derby City Council Hugely in favour of this. Midland Hotel, Derby Midland Station, Railway Terrace and of course the Brunswick Inn are all listed architectural gems that are part of Derby’s fabric and history ; lots of other examples too {South Wingfield station} and the names of pioneers like George and Robert Stevenson and Francis Thompson who designed many of the railways architecture make Derby the railway culture centre of the universe without question. It’s a no brainer to have it in Derby…but politics no doubt will interfere. Please vote and encourage everyone to do so. The rise of the railways and football in Derby and Derby County are inextricably linked. Derby County absorbed Derby Midland FC and Derby Junction and of course William Morley, our founder, was a clerk at Derby Midland. Rev
Base it where the economic case is best served, not via some stupid competition designed to show us how much the levelling up agenda means to the useless b'stards in Parliament. What a monumental waste of everyone's time and money, it will go where the self serving pigs decide anyway. atherstoneram
Crewe or York will be the eventual winner and it won't bring as many jobs as has been quoted as the National Operations Centre located at Milton Keynes will not be moving anyway. therealhantsram

BramcoteRam84
I’ve voted. Means something to me personally as I started my working career at Derby Carriage Works on Litchurch Lane, my Grandad worked his whole life in the Railway. Crewe and to a lesser extent York I think have legitimate claims but Derby is the centre of most things rail, still a huge railway presence with many rail consultancies and train operators with offices on Pride Park, not to mention Derby Carriage Works and Etches Park depot still going strong under Alstom now, it makes sense for it to be Derby. I've voted. My Dad worked for BR at Derby for 32 years and two of me brothers did apprenticeships there. Its always been a Railway town/city. Donnyram
I had 37 years in the rail industry starting at Derby Loco works before moving on to York & then Doncaster where I have now lived for 31 years with my wife who I met when working at York and two sons, born in Doncaster but raised as Rams fans. Great Industry now serving me well in retirement! Both Derby and Doncaster would be worthy winners in my view with both having great railway heritage uttoxram75, Crewton and Hans Datdo-Dishes
