Joined Stoke, was nice to think we had a chance for a few days before normal misery returned. Magical mods to lock the thread?

If he had gone to another league 1 side then I would be gutted, however stoke can offer him a level of football that we cant. We all know the reasons why, but if he wants championship football there is nothing the club can do.

They can also offer wages we never could - helps when you can write of 40 million covid losses unquestioned and sell your ground plus debt to another family member for 170 million .  Is land in Stoke worth that much.  Are they going to be hounded for the next two years .  Nah..

Championship offer wasn’t on the table to start with though. We could’ve signed him before Stoke came in.

It's a bit optimistic to think that an out of contract established championship player would hurriedly sign for a L1 club without waiting to see what interest there was from the championship.

With him just moving house back into the Alfreton area, this move was very much on the cards and would've happened if the takeover had happened. It won't just be one target we've missed on after having them pretty much agreed and just waiting to sign. Likewise with retaining first team players, they can't wait forever.

If his house move was purely based on signing for Derby, you'd think he'd wait at least until pre-season training was due to start though. It's only 2 weeks away. If it had fallen through then, he'd still have had plenty of options.
