As I said, there clearly is potential for failing FFP, but it's by no means inevitable. That pre-supposes that we have planned to go close to the FFP limit, which with our spending and presumed increase in wages, I can't believe that we haven't. If that is the case then any significant shortfall in turnover has the potential to push us over the edge. IMO, that could happen if significant amounts of fans stop going to games. That may well occur if results and performances don't improve as the perception will be that if the club has given up on the season then why should the fans bother. A large part of that perception comes from employing the failing Darren Wassall (yes he would be failing if results and performances don't improve) as manager.

Bringing in a new manager with a track record would prevent any drastic loss of revenue as people would be interested in the building process and understand that the team might have to go one step back in order to take two steps forward.

We are probably stuck with this season's big money signings (anything over a Barker) as there will still be amortisation losses to account for even if we sell them. For any that are on four year contracts we need to get 75% of their original fees back to avoid making a book loss (the other 25% has been lost in the season's accounts). As they are all supposedly on relatively high salaries it will be hard to find buyers. Now Mel might be quite happy to take the losses in order to move out unwanted players, but he can't do anything about the FFP loss - unless he buys a foreign club and sells them to himself. The only one that we could probably move on without a loss would be Butterfield.

One thought that I did have on the possibility of an embargo, The club would have a fair idea that it was going to happen as soon as the season finished. However they don't have to submit the FFP figures until December, and the embargo would come into force in January. That mean that the club would have two choices in the summer (assuming not promoted); embark on a cost cutting exercise to ensure that the embargo only lasted for one window, or throw everything at the summer window to try to buy promotion, despite not being allowed to sign anyone in January.

Are you a corporate accountant Cornwall ?

just banged £100 on Rodgers 8/1. Just read an interview with him and a few clues he may be coming to us. Funny enough the interview just happened to be just after PC got the boot.

he made it adamant that he is not even interested in taking a job till summer also clearly states that it does not have to be one of the big clubs just that the challenge needs to be right.

In to 5/1 now

I was a big fan of Mac but why on earth would we want him back with how badly he's done for the amount of money he's spent at Newcastle. And the fact his head was turned so easily when we gave him the opportunity to rebuild his managerial career. No thanks.

From what I've been told, half the players wouldve happily driven him up to Newcastle by the end of last season. So even if we want to be nostalgic and hope he could come back and do a job, (some of) the players might disagree...

but then again... 'Times a healer'

Brendan rodgers has had his ups and downs. Did well with watford, sacked by Reading, did very well with swansea, then sacked by Liverpool.

his performance at Liverpool has to raise grave doubts. He never seemed to know what he was trying to do; spent a fortune; signed balotelli which should carry some sort of warning; and his man management.....omg - it was cringeworthy on the Being Liverpool documentary.

He's a bit like a fit bird with b.o.

are we that desperate ?

maybe.

Grave doubts?!

Obviously talented enough to get the Liverpool job in the first place. We're a second division side.

Rodgers gave the Premier League one of it's most exciting teams in its history with the one that almost won the league. Yeah, it went wrong for him at the end but what manager doesn't it unravel for? And what manager could do as well when trying to replace 50 league goals once Suarez was sold and Sturridge injured?

Aside from being an ex-Liverpool manager he also won promotion from the Championship, so knows what the division is about, kept them in the Premier League, plays very good football and promotes youth.

Rodgers would be the absolute ideal appointment. It won't be him but to think we'd be "desperate" to go for him is an insult to what he has done.

Anyway, back to Schteve. His career in top flight football in England is finished if he gets sacked at Newcastle. Fascinated to see where he goes after this because there's not a chance a Premier League side would touch him after this.
