Just wanted to say this rumour puts into perspective some of the comments about a possible loan return to Derby. Delap is out of our league (literally!)

Although I do agree with @86 Hair Islands about his disgraceful behaviour when they played us recently.

If City really want him around, perhaps us waiving our sell-on to get him on loan for next season would complete the deal.

It would be stupid on our part, of course, but definitely something I could see us doing.

Moves from the edge of Derby’s first team to Liverpool under 18s... great career move that...

Trying to develop as a footballer, in a team that is complete devoid of quality, under a owner who is trying to sell the club to anyone who will take the financial burden off him, also under a very inexperienced coaching staff regardless of their status as a footballer previously to training with Liverpool's first team, under one of the top 5 coaches in the world who has developed a catalogue of players to the highest levels of the game. I would say that it's a very good move for him.

It's not a race to the first team, it's about how you can develop the fundamentals that can carry you to the highest point of the football pyramid. Not forgetting we had one of the most naturally gifted young players that this country has had in decades and couldn't develop him beyond a 'good Championship midfielder' in Will Hughes. If you would've told me 9-10 years ago, when he first came into the first team that he would be playing at the same level at 25 then I would've scoffed.

We seem to be very good at developing academy players into the first team, but not many really ever progress any further.

Should let Aaron Donald leave, unfair to see him waste his career away at the Rams, guy needs some rings on his fingers

The third favourite in the NFC not good enough?

Every single NFC West team is favoured over the Steelers for this year's Super Bowl - ouch!

You should've stuck with the Falcons, they aren't far behind ?

  4. Rather than watch the Derby game yesterday, I watched Les Sneed talk about the cap and free agency. It sounds like he's going to be doing a lot of restructuring to fall below the cap -- then working on keeping our URFA and RFA. I have no idea how he's going to do it, but he's a good cap manager, in the sense that he knows how to massage it.

If we lose anyone, hopefully it's not someone who is too important.

  5. Really happy for him. I hope he really kicks on a does well - no bitterness from me (or many on here)

We're quite frankly a hot mess at the moment and that money helps us survive, hopefully get through the season without entering administration.

  6. I listened to the podcast yesterday and at times it was a tough listen. I don't think Thorne came across poorly at all; a little blunt and to the point at times, but this is what people want to hear. Not the media trained version that's diluted down it's barely the truth and just a bunch of soundbites.

I'm not a psychiatrist (I am opinionated and believe that I am right most of the time) but I get a sense that he was/is scarred from his early days at West Brom, who made him learn very early that football is a business. I don't believe he ever really got over it. I felt particularly gutted for him when he explained that he had wasted 2 years of a short career due to a clause in a deal that he had no knowledge. The fact Mel had managers' play along with the charade is disappointing - Lampard didn't come out in the best light. Football can be a grim game at times, especially behind the scenes, so I can't say I'm surprised that we're not particularly the best club at handling situations.

'the secret scout...' assuming that's the level of his analysis then I'd be mortified if he isn't an 'out of work scout' because he offers absolutely no insight at all. I could've wrote that without seeing him play a single game.

A teenage left back breaks into the first team.... what does he need... to fill out physically. I mean, you could literally write that about ANY teenage player nevermind a teenage defender. I don't think it's ever not been said about any player.

Buchanan is plenty physical for his age and where he is in his development. It's lazy to suggest otherwise. He's still very much learning the left back position after coming through the academy as a centre back. He's a decent enough footballer, not outstanding, and his decision making going forward could be much improved. I find his defensive positioning is far beyond many young full-backs, so he deserves credit there. It's easy to lament young full backs for their defensive positioning, but I'd argue that's Buchanan's strength.

He's not quite the footballer that Bogle is/was, but he's a much more rounded defender. I doubt many Premier League teams are going to be interested, though, as they look towards the flashy footballers first and then want to develop the fundamentals at a later date.

  8. I've just had a conversation with a mate about this, who mentioned he should've stayed with Derby. I massively disagree, it's not a problem with Chelsea, it's a football issue. He would've absolutely been sacked as Derby manager at some point and received a much lesser pay off. He will get a new job now and inevitably get sacked from that - it happens.

The last five seasons, between all the English league clubs, there have been: 52, 60, 67, 63 and 74 sackings. 52 being an outlier due to Covid. We can consider roughly half the clubs in the English professional leagues will sack their manager each season. I find that absolutely barmy. I used to find it intriguing, but now I just find it boring.

If we are only due a set fee under EPPP then why would Liverpool agree to pay a higher fee plus add-ons?

I believe the set fee is only for clubs who are in a higher tier, i.e. if a tier 1 club wanted a player from a tier 2 academy then they would have to pay the set fee. Gordan would likely go to a tribunal, therefore I believe the fee is effectively a settlement.

£23k a week a week for Keogh, and we wonder where the money has gone?

It's really not that bad considering he was arguably our best player for the past decade, plus it incremented over time. We've done a lot worse, in fact I'd say that's probably the best money we've spent.

Bryson, Martin and others after earning their 'big' contract went backwards rather than forwards.

  11. Keogh's having a pretty good month: Derby set to pay Richard Keogh £2million after he won an appeal over his dismissal | Daily Mail Online

He's owed £2m, apparently, although Derby are planning their own appeal of the appeal.

    You just can't write it.

Their recruitment does look like they are planning for next season in the Championship.

They were never committed to becoming a Premier League side. Premier League standard footballers demand Premier League standard wages and they were never in the market to pay it. Brewster has been their one Premier League signing and he's disappointed, but I'd still argue that he's a good long-term investment. He was a cut above this level last season for Swansea.

  13. Max Lowe has been getting hammered recently and now finds himself out the squad. Bogle yet to make a squad in the Premier League?

I’m not surprised with Lowe, but I thought Bogle had the potential to kick on.

  14. This international break could well be the perfect remedy for us. Marshall, Buchanan, Knight and Jozwiak have all had an extremely good couple of weeks and that's potentially 4 of our starting XI come Saturday. Lawrence also has played a good part for Wales, who won promotion to Group A in the Nations League.

If nothing else, it stops them from being the players in the team sat at the bottom of the Championship. I'm adamant (and very rarely wrong) that we have an extremely good amount of quality in this squad - enough to see us challenging at the other end of the table. We saw that for a good portion of last season and we've improved with the likes of Jozwiak, Byrne and Marshall in particular.

I really do think this break allows us to go into the Bristol game with a clear mindset. Far removed from the team that lost 2-0 at home to Barnsley.
