I thought he had two. Well one and a half as Newcastle had a team stuffed with multi million pound players.

Paul Jewell did as well as that.

Well Hughton isn't in that group either is he? He managed promotion with the most expensive side ever assembled in the Championship  with Newcastle and then again with Brighton. As far as I am aware he hasn't got anyone else promoted.

Our own Jim Smith got 3 teams to promoted to the top tier.

Yeah, Hughton has two. I was asking because I was hoping that there would be an overwhelming lack of managers managing it 3 times with 3 teams and so that precedent would suggest it's unlikely to happen with Hughton.

Mac 3... clearly some of our fans know nothing. I guarantee if he came in now we would not just click like last time because the foundations are not there. Clough  took years to build that that team and it irritates me that Mac gets so much credit for it. Yes he did a great job tinkering with tactics, spotting what Clough perhaps didn’t, but the bottom line is that it was not his team.

"he turned us around after Pearson"  will be coming soon.

..but the Pearson squad was merely underachieving, and a better quality squad than the one we've currently got (excluding injured players and those not fit to play for weeks)

I think if we're in a position comparable with a position McClaren previously joined a club in, it's his season at QPR, i.e. reducing wage bill, limited transfer budget, relying on the academy, FFP restrictions. I actually think he did a better job there than he is credited with, but he did lose his first four games by a 13-2 margin, and got sacked after a run of 1 win and 10 losses in 15 games.

I've only got us down for 20 over 21's

    Roos, Marshall, Ravas

Clarke, te Wierik, Davies, Forsyth, Wisdom, Byrne

    Bielik, Shinnie, Evans, Holmes, Rooney

    Lawrence, Jozwiak, Ibe, Jozefzoon

    Marriott, Waghorn

I'm also including Shonibare, Idem and Hector-Ingram, since they've all been given squad numbers since the initial squad number announcement. The latter two are both 21, but aren't 21 by the EFL's definition.

I was gonna say this seems crazy with clubs having so much difficulty selling in this market and the introduction of the squad cap.

Aren't they at 40 or something? That's 15 players they're not allowed to register ?

If one takes their first team squad to be all players given a squad number, plus the three players over 23 under contract who have not been given squad numbers, their total squad stands at 37 players.

EFL rules state that "under 21" players are exempt from being included, with their definition of an "under 21" player being a player that is not on loan from another club and was born on or after January 1st 1999, so that means Loic Mbe Soh, Alex Mighten, Brennan Johnson and George Shelvey aren't included in the squad list, but that still leaves them with, at present, 33 players to fit onto a squad list of 25.

Doing the same with Derby, we have 30 players given squad numbers, plus FloJo makes 31, with Max Bird, Louie Sibley, Morgan Whittaker, Lee Buchanan, Jason Knight, Jordan Brown, Harrison Solomon and Ola Ibrahim all not counting towards the squad list, making a squad of 23.
