It is nice to see someone new at the top. Like even after 100+ years of football, there are still firsts to be seen and record to be broken.
Even Man City winning stuff, they seem like a Nuevo Riche club, but they have a distant history of winning stuff. Chelsea the same. If Derby ever won the fa cup again, commentators would say it’s the first time since 1946. It’s a rare thing to see a club with no history at all create their history in front of your eyes. These are the years that Leicester fans in 100 years time will be talking about, singing ‘Jamie Vardy’s watching’.
It makes me realise though, that until now, Leicester have really been the most ‘meh’ of all ‘meh’ clubs, dancing in the street at their one league cup success under MON, (they actually built a statue to commemorate that) until the last 5 years.
I like it though, it really does give all other clubs hope. The premier league win was a bit of a once in a generation fluke, so that actually destroys hope for other clubs I think, cos something like that is unlikely to happen again in our lifetimes, so because it happened to Leicester, it won’t happen to anyone else. But the fact that they’ve established themselves in and around the top 4, through good scouting, good management and good ownership, gives hope that other clubs can come from nowhere and dine at the top table with the elite clubs. I think Leicester are definitely established in that group now, and if they challenge for another premier league title in the coming years, it won’t be a fluke, it will be because that’s the level that they’re at now.
The freak league title helped get them to that level, but I think the good work behind the scenes would have got them there anyway. I’m so jealous that they were able to find players like Vardy, Kante, and Mahrez, and pick up managers like Rainieri and then Rodgers. If they can get players like that, anyone can, so why can’t we?!??

If Glick is involved it's a yes from me, spoke with him a fair bit when he was last here and was always really impressed with him and think he and the owners at the time got quite the short shrift from a lot of supporters for no reason
I wonder how many of those would take them back now?

So good to read the comments in this thread. They show how whilst arguments about this player or that manager may happen forum members do really care for each other. That may be very important in the days ahead.

I'm a tired middle aged man. I don't have reserves of rage to bring to bear on topics around what might go wrong, or what should have been done. I'm sad that Mel is walking away, sad for us and for him, that the effort in sweat and treasure he's put in to getting us promoted never worked out. Blame him if you want, but few of us could or would have done better. He deserved to sit in the executive box at Old Trafford and The Emirates and watch our team mix it with the best again. I'll always respect him and wish him well.
The new guy is a clean slate, a fresh start. We have a new season over the horizon and if we can just win a couple more games and stay up, positives in the academy and the managers office and hope for the future.
Good luck to him, and I hope the takeover and the relegation battle conclude successfully in this next couple of weeks.
Up the Rams. It's all about the hope.

At the end of the day if we beat Wednesday and Birmingham it's highly likely we stay up. Hopefully it won't even get to that. 3 points on the first game back against Luton will settle everyone down. It's still in our hands, we really shouldn't blow it from here.

Astonished at that question! He can complain with more justification than Sibley that he has not been played in his best position.
Sibley has yet to prove he can deliver consistently, one goal does not change that.

Ha, if he keeps this up there will be a CKR v Martin thread at some point on here!
Martin definitely looks the more elegant footballer whilst CKR is more of a streetfighter but the technical ability & leadership in that front role is what they both have in common. Oh & they were both unheralded free transfers on arrival ?

I don't particually want to get into the subject here, and there's threads on it elsewhere, but in a nutshell I wholeheartedly support CKR doing it. From him, it's genuine, heartfelt and a definance against perdudice and injustice. He shouldn't do it because racists will claim he's the one who is racist.....what kind of BS is that? That's my two pennies worth, and I'm probably not the one who's going to solve the wider issues of racism in sports an society.

sunnyhill60 reacted to DCFC Kicks in What would McClaren do with this team?
Whether it's McClaren or not, I'd want a manager like McClaren who gives the attacking players freedom. I also think we have players suited to counter-attacking. You can see how dangerous Jozwiak is on the counter with his goal tonight. I don't think Benitez is either of these things which is why I don't want him.

sunnyhill60 reacted to Andicis in What would McClaren do with this team?
McClaren has a far better win rate than any of our recent managers. His season went to hell because we simply didn't have the players. We could have changed it up, but it likely wouldn't have changed the result. I'm sure they would have tried stuff in training and Mac decided it wasn't going to help. At the start of this season, people rightly said Cocu should get time to get his squad fit, yet Mac isn't afforded the same luxury, despite the fact he lost the spine of his team to injury.

Marshall is genuinely the reason we have any points at all on the board at all this season. It’s great to see him have this moment that I’m sure he will never forget.
Best keeper since Poom has to be Carson, though, he was unreal for an entire season. He was worth a lot of points that season with match winning performance after match winning performance. Butland was below average here, it’s revisionist to say otherwise I remember the collective sigh of relief when Grant returned.
Bywater in our promotion season was very good, as was a few players that simply fell of a cliff. Dean Leacock was exceptional that season and he struggled to cut it as a professional footballer after that season.

sunnyhill60 reacted to JfR in Keogh Sacked
If Keogh feels he's been wrongfully dismissed then he'll almost certainly bring action against the club. Until then can we please stop speculating on this? All we know is that the club's internal investigations have found that Lawrence and Bennett's behaviour amounted to lower level misconduct whilst Keogh's amounted to gross misconduct (and that is a very important distinction, by the way). We don't know the details uncovered in these investigations. We don't know the exact actions that have led to Keogh's dismissal. We can't comment upon how "fair" or "moral" it is when it's fallacious to assume that the three players have been found to have committed the exact same wrongdoing without distinction. The implication of the club's statements and actions is that they found that Keogh has committed an act or acts that Lawrence and Bennett did not and which were more serious than the acts Lawrence and Bennett committed. We do not know what these alleged acts were. Nor, for that matter, should any of the news outlets that are reporting on this, as protocol would seek to keep the findings of any investigation private and internal without the full consent of all parties involved. It's easy to assume that the differentiation between parties has been made due to their physical states in the aftermath of the incident, but there has been no confirmation that this is the case. The club's statement did not say this.
I think it also needs clarifying that criminal acts are not in and of themselves a basis for a charge of gross misconduct, especially if it is outside of the workplace, and likewise that gross misconduct does not have to be criminal. It's entirely possible for Keogh to have committed a non-criminal act that makes his position in and relationship with the club untenable, while the criminal acts committed by Lawrence and Bennett did not.
I just felt like I needed to make this post because I think a lot of people are viewing this as a very simple issue when in actuality law is nothing if not extremely, perhaps at times needlessly, complicated.

The BBG wasn't so special when I first started going to games in the 60s with plenty of empty spaces on the terraces, but I still loved going. How different it was standing on the Popside in the 70s on the European nights, they were the highlights for me. Beating Benfica, led by Eusebio, 3-0 was just one of the many magical nights. But it was the players on the pitch and the event -the European Cup - that made it special not the ground.
If we had now the players we had then Pride Park would be just as special. I don't miss having to arrive 45 minutes before kick off to get a good spot on the terrace, the struggle to get to the toilet or the crush on leaving.
When the fans decide to make it happen, as they have done the past 2 home games, the atmosphere generated at pride Park can be electric.
