Great post and I completely agree, although a little too young to remember the Brian Clough and MacKay era.
Having watched the Rams descend into the old Division 3 it looked like really tough times we're ahead, almost like today, although we've not gone yet.  Amazingly Arthur left Newcastle to come to us, at a club whereby we only had about 11 first team players on the books, a mountain of debt but a fiercely loyal fan base.
Within a few seasons we we're back and would have been in Europe (should have actually finished third that season but dropped some daft points).  The European ban robbed us, then as the money dried up, another of his famous quotes came to fruition - "Football clubs can't stand still" he said, and as we tried we slowly went backwards.
Those 4-5 years we're the best for me.  I was at the right age to hardly miss a game and some of the away days we're class.
Thoroughly enjoyed TBE years as I was one of a few who was really pleased with the appointment after seeing him take Pompey to the FA Cup Semi Final.  Knew he'd be no nonsense.
Completely agree about a statue of Arthur, and Roy Mac was a pretty good assistance, plus one Gordan Guthrie.

What also interests me is how the movers shakers and decision makers in the EFL actually get the positions of authority. How did the rules get made, what votes and input did the members get in making them. It is a regulator,  it it is also an association of its members.

Of course I understand it will look for members who by their actions damage other members but something is awry in its whole demeanour and public utterances.

At least not that I'm aware of.
Sorry if that headline seems insensitive, but it may look like clickbait if I just post his name when he's ok.
I'm just interested if anybody has info on Arthur - or even, journalistic speculation Colin?
It all went south at the end, but that man is up there with Clough, Mackay and TBE as the greatest Rams managers in my lifetime.
I had some of my happiest Derby memories (and I watched all the home European games) watching that team rebuild in the 3rd division.
Maybe it was the fact that, as now, we had sunk so low and Arthur dragged up back up again because Clough's team was harder to break down, Mackay's more likely to put 4 past you, and Jim's more likely to attack you with pace on the counter, but I just loved that team.
For those of you old enough to remember Kevin Wilsons explosive start to that season, how shocking was it that Coxy promptly sold him?
    Stunning and dumb eh?

Dumb like a fox when he used the money to bring in Micklewhite and, was it Gregory? Callaghan maybe? I dunno, come on stat fans, enlighten me who he used that money on!
I was listening to an interview with Robert Lee the other day and he was complaining at how poor Newcastle were at honouring old heroes. Derby are quite good in fairness and maybe AC wants his privacy, but duck me, I'd love to see the man introduced to the PP crowd. I'd even drive up from Cornwall to see it.
I just hope he's well as I know he had major back issues even when he was manager.

Shilts finished 5th in the Ballon d'Or whilst playing for us. A position only bettered by (I think) Yashin, Zoff, Kahn, Neuer and Buffon, I think in his last season he had declined dramatically but the first 3 seasons he was immense. That said Poom was bloody amazing as well.

To call somebody overrated you have to have a benchmark against which to judge. From what I've seen he is a fairly average Championship midfielder, with a few good touches now and again. If he was any better than that, even with his 'issues', I imagine he would have played a lot more games than he has and at a higher level.
So, from what I've seen, he is just about at the level I expected him to be. He doesn't look out of place, but neither does he look like a superstar.  He's good enough for us at the moment.

It's a rather strange outburst and odd take on things IMHO. Take it into any other workplace and make Rooney a Head of Department or whatever and the MD won't answer your calls or emails or give you any heads up about a looming financial crisis and then just announces Administration without even telling you before eventually deciding to speak to people ? I'd be seriously unimpressed with that.
I do however think we just need to get his settled hopefully amicably before anyone starts any war of words that might impact deals to be done. We need everyone to play their part including MM. A time for cool heads I feel.

Something I have been very passionate about for many many years.
A shame that Derby County, who were one of the first clubs to go public in support of safe standing, will more than likely not be part of any trial. Instead we find ourselves fighting to save the existence of our club.
Regardless, a step in the right direction for football fans. Seeing the South Stand ..... Well let's not go there. ?

    That's my worry.
I used to go to football for the tribal pride, the enjoyment of the actual sport and a release of tension to just have a good time.
Winning enhances that. Losing dampens the spirit. But still whatever the results I'd be there next week loud and proud.
Really reaching the PL was only really a goal because it meant more wins, more celebrations, more ammo to throw at other fans. It was never about the actual league and higher costs to follow
I reckon if you still have the football bug then you're going to enjoy all that the PL offers in League 1 or 2 or whatever.
It will still be your Derby on the pitch with you in the stands. Does it really matter if the opponents are Man City or Man sfield?
The real worry is that the club will be gone or left soulless and you know nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon than watching Premier League scores roll in

Hate the position the club finds itself in and sincerley sorry that I cannot do more from afar, but really encouraged in how the fans are coming together and showing unity.
We can but hope that the club come out the otherside and that we can still watch on from the terraces, wherever we are.

Absolutely nailed it for me and exactly how I'm feeling.
Some of the signings we've made that have completely flopped and cost us absolutely millions doesn't just fall on his shoulders.  Easy for me to say but I didn't agree with many of the signings we made, nor managerial choices.
    Feeling quite down this morning.
