  1. Barks, NML and Gayle really seemed to have gelled as a front 3. Gutted these injuries have hit now. Sounds like Barks is also injured so it’s an opportunity for CBT or Wilson maybe. I orefer NML in the wider areas rather than part of a front two. As another poster said we may have to play a system out of necessity with who is available. Wonder if Callum Elder will have a big part to play, moving Sibley further up. Best Regards Gangway D from the Terrace
  2. Arrived carrying injuries when it’s already very difficult coming in to a new squad getting used to how players and the team like to play. I agree, underwhelmed so far but has showed glimpses of what he could be about. He will need to work harder in a PW team, but add that to his ability and I think he will prove to be a good signing. 3. Has the potential to nail down a regular starting slot for me - and could play any number of positions, which ironically might count against him. One of the quickest I’ve seen dribbling the ball with various tricks to beat a defender and as we’ve seen, decent in the air too. He is certianly one who is Championship quality. He is loving his time here and I suspect feels really settled. Keep it going Lane lad. He does seem to tire when he starts games but PW will hopefully have him super fit for next season, as I don’t think he got a proper pre-season. “Running down the wing, all the Derby sing, Chunky Kane Wilson” Cheers Gangway D from the Terrace
  4. Most of his interviews are bizarre and the press must love it. They ask a question and he rambles on, and starts answering and asking himself questions he thinks might be coming. At least he has some personality and it's not the stock answers most managers trot out. I do think he sets himself for a fall though by being far too honest - he will/should learn from this. I also think, as a player if you are with him you'll go more than the extra mile, so hopefully they have all bought in to his ethos. I'd bet if you are an outsider, then he wouldn't give you the time of day. Ultimately, he's a complex character and I'd love to share a pint with him and talk football. Whenever your free PW - your round ! Cheers Gangway D from the Terrace
  5. I was right behind it. Absolute class (header and the man). As you said, one of the best headed goals I've ever seen. The leap, the timing, the placement the power - poetry in motion. Cheers Curtis Gangway D from the Terrace
  6. Great post. I still wished they had developed the old BBG instead of moving to Pride Park. Those narrow streets around the ground were a warren and you knew every little shortcut or potential place for trouble. Thankfully I was always on the fringes, and our pre-match ritual were a few pre-match in the Grange then into the Popside or C Stand. The older lads we're as much cult hero's to me as some of the players. Cheers Gangway D from the terrace
  7. Maybe 'quick' was an exaggeration, but half the pace of JC !?, Wow, I reckon that means I could walk faster than he runs 😛 I thought he was much more mobile. I've changed my mind then ! Cheers Gangway D from the terrace
  8. Completely agree Sparkie. Warne knows him well and like Collins he puts a shift in, but he's quicker, better in the air and offers better movement which would open things up more for our wider and central midfield players. 6 Months loan, or 18 month contract at the very best, but Wednesday would have to sell him to us for peanuts if that was the case. Also depends how long Waggy is out for. A loan the best option, so if Sheff Weds come down he could go back to their squad. Cheers Gangway D from the terrace
  9. Good post. I don't know much about the first two players you mentioned but I really like the look of Dan Crowley, although doubt Notts County would entertain losing him in January. I still think Johnson Clarke-Harris would be worth a two year deal. Far more of a handful than anything we currently have and could make a big difference. It could be argued he doesn't work as hard as our current forwards, plus has history with PW, so doubt this would happen. Would Peterborough allow him to come to a promotion rival, so he'll probably go to Bristol Rovers. Cheers Gangway D from the Terrace
  10. Talking of The RAMones, Baby I love you was originally 'DERBY' I love you. I can't live without you I love everything about you I can't help it if I feel this way Oh I'm so glad I found you I want my arms around you I love to hear you sing my name Tell me that you feel Tell me that you feel Tell me that you feel the same Derby, I love you, come on Derby Derby, I love you Derby I love, I love only you
  11. Sheep by The Housemartins And when you see a cane, I see a crook (whoa-oh) And when you see a crowd, I see a flock It's sheep you're up against (sheep you're up against, sheep you're up against, sheep your're against) It's sheep you're up against (sheep you're up against, sheep you're up against, sheep your're against) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIWOhisqrP8
  12. Not completely sure but I picked it up in the pub as the below, although I'd had several beers to be honest so was singing anything... Tsamina mina, eh, eh Waka waka, eh, eh Derby boy will go insane John Jules has scored again Cheers GDFTT
  13. Made me giggle this one for some reason - I like it !. Although not sure if this was borrowed from the Fozzie Fozzie Fozzie version which someone suggested on here to the same tune !. Unless that was also you Chester40 and you have a fascination with us having a player sang to the tune of Oggy Oggy Oggy ! The John Jules song was quite catchy being sang in boozers and by some in the away end at Leyton Orient on Saturday. Cheers Gangway D from Terrace
  14. Spot on Edward. It's very worrying with so many out of contract. You wonder if Warne does not really fancy and/or want to keep any of them, and it could be argued they are not worth negotiating any new deals. As you said, it will mean a whole new squad, with excuses / reasons that they would need time to gel, making it extremely difficult to challenge for promotion next year, if we fail this. We could be back to square one. Failure this year, and Warne might be axed, so it would be a whole new manager with probably different systems. I'd hope, we could bring some young talent through and with some shrewd acquisitions we could go again and be even stronger, but lets not rule out doing it this season, with some quality in January and if we can become much more consistent. A powerful mobile target man would be a must for me, plus one with blistering pace to stretch the pitch. Also a box to box energetic midfielder as I don't think we replaced Knighty. Have we got the funds to do it ? Regards Gangway D from the terrace
  15. Scored twice today for Wimbledon who won and had two sent off. Not good timing if the links are genuine ! Gangway D from the Terrace
  16. Do you know what Seth, that's not a bad shout - including the one about the kit. Wilson might find it too congested in that area, whereby he has more room on the flanks, but those glimpses of chances he created for himself (Blackpool) and for others (Stevenage/Washington and Shrewsbury/Collins) it's certainly worth a look. Thought he changed things from the wide area against Crewe and put in some dangerous crosses, but could he have provided that subtle pass playing in the number 10. I thought he was excellent throughout against Wolves U21's. Someone remarked on here he had a poor first half, but I'd argue we didn't get the ball to him as much and when he had it he caused problems. Bradley and Cashin both hit some great diagonals to him. I'm converted Seth - Id like to see him tried there. Gangway D from the terrace
  17. Your not alone. I think DC has/had every right to raise concerns with our 'progress' and I dare say he has. I don't think he would have said words to the effect of change your tactics or stop acting like the underdog as that would be almost telling him how to do his job. I watched with interest the Barnsley pre-match interview and whilst they are getting better, I thought it encapsulated my frustration with Warne. He does seem to acknowledge we are not scoring enough goals and not taking our chances so reading between the lines, that area is a must for improvement in the January window. He's also banging on about fine margins. Maybe he has a point but if we go at teams, like we did against Northampton, fine margins don't come in to it. We shouldn't be even talking fine margins when we play against teams in the bottom four or five. Then he talks about players and says he likes good athletes - most managers would say the like good footballers, good defenders etc. In fairness, it feels like we are turning a corner, including Crewe whereby I felt we dominated and deserved a replay at the most, so lets hope we get the three wins he spoke about in our next three home games and it might start restoring some faith in Warne. I don't feel its unfair not to raise questions although I'm sure DC's patience will and should hold..... for now. Cheers Gangway D from the terrace.
  18. He did look quality but I thought Fapetu was the pick, closely followed by Darren Robinson, especially when he went alongside Elder at Centre Half. Cox looked very assured at only 17 putting in a lovely cross which Wilson nearly profited. Wheeldon looks a talent and Cruz Allen, at 16 showed some neat touches and nearly scored. It's really refreshing seeing the youngsters coming through again and not looking out of place, (I know it's 'only' Wolves U21's), especially after seeing the vultures pick off all our previous talent. As you said, some of them, including Tony Weston are ones to watch and hopefully they will get a few more opportunities. Cheers Gangway D from the Terrace
  19. Interesting shout. I wouldn't if I'm honest but he does score goals at this level. Having watched much of the Crewe game back, it really did highlight bizarrely how little we offer going forward. Washington nor Collins didn't get any change out of the young Crewe centre backs, but most of all, our movement up front was very poor - no attacking the near post, no delaying the run to attack the ball or taking players underneath for someone to target the back. NML did it for his header second half which he should have buried, then we did start to pull crosses back for midfielders to run on to, for how CH scored. I'm still harping on how we never replaced Didzy, and I feel a more powerful striker, or one with subtle movement would score a hatful for us. Depending on TJJ then I think we also need some raw pace up front so I'd be looking for two strikers in January. Jebbison on loan from Sheffield United would be one of those for me. It also struck me, how few sides play two up front these days. Talking of Marriott (and Collins), their best goalscoring periods seemed to come when playing as a pair up front, but the trend in Football these days is one up front with a deeper number 10 / midfielder. We have signed them both, Marriott we paid well over the top, but then played them up front on their own. Going to be an interesting window. Gangway D from the Terrace
  20. This is true Sage. I dare say Warne would bring in a couple of very powerful players, although he says it’s the strongest squad he’s ever had - or words to that effect, so what does he think he needs. it shows how critical management appointment is if the squad doesn’t suit a managers style. This current squad can’t play high press as it doesn’t have the legs, nor does crossing the ball in the box when we don’t have the strikers to suit or a midfielder who drives into the box to get on the end of things. Only caveat I would say, is a new manager will be building almost a new team - is it 8 we have out of contract, so don’t think it’s that critical. Gangway D from the terrace
  21. Brings me back to me banging on about not replacing Didzy. His movement, taking the ball in tight areas, moving the ball quickly and/or spreading play, thus stretching the pitch, it helped the whole team as well as being a father figure to Dobbin and Will Osula, plus his goals. Writing was on the wall for Warne having not seen this. I know people will argue he ain’t had the funds but that’s a massive achilles heel. For me that’s why we ain’t Top 2, but should comfortably be Top 6 and then January we get the best striker we can (should have done it before imo) Not sure I’d trust Warne with another window, but some of the names being mentioned I wouldn’t trust them either ! 22. As we both have acknowledged, we have seem flashers of good football, but his insistent on crosses without the players to play this way is baffling - li don’t want us to play this way either. The most annoying thing there is nothing innovative - we just bang it in and hope someone gets on the end of it. Same with the long throws. I saw a set routine at Peterborough away (Waghorn had a shot) but other than that, nothing. Nelson’s long throws could be varied - huge space is offered for a feet return then work a more dangerous position but we just lob it on and hope for the best. DC employed him and it would be an admitting defeat, so I think he will stick with him, for now. As I stated he hooks or drops the same players and today he seemed to be trying to change things every two minutes to find a solution - the players must have been completely confused. I do feel sorry for him. In his interview he looked and sounded lost. He will desperately want to succeed but i just can’t see it happening. I honestly don’t think we have a Top 2 squad (Defence is good, Midfield okay but wrong blend, Strikers, no chance) but we should be challenging and easily be play offs. Gangway D from the terrace
  23. Warne has gone on record many times saying he loves a cross, and whilst it’s probably served him well over the years we don’t have the strike force. Collins has got on the end of an odd one but nowheee near enough. I agree in that at our goal and chances (Washington, Bird and Hourihan) came from the bit of Football we played so either the players are not capable of doing this consistently or the manager does not want too or can’t coach them. Worryingly a couple of players look completely out of sorts. He also seems to hook or drop the same players. I almost feel sorry for him, as he’s starting to look a broken man. I’m really split on wether he should go now or let’s evaluate come December - could we trust him with another transfer window knowing how many are going to be at out contract or will probably move on. They might not be listening but the outside noise must be deafening… Gangway D from the terrace
  24. I do agree in that it wasn’t great, I thought it was an extremely poor performance with very little fluidity or cohesion and coughing up possession without any real pressure. Warne said himself we lacked aggression - personally I thought we lacked more. I agreed they didn’t batter us but they deserved their win. I think we opened them up once, maybe twice in 90 minutes and Warne said if we’d been playing till Monday we probably wouldn’t have scored. it was his other comments which annoyed, as he inferred that if we’d took our chances we’d have easily won, their keeper man of the match etc - completely disagreed with this. I am expecting us to go to places like Shrewsbury and give a far better account of ourselves than we did, especially with the squad we have - Cheltenham was the same - it’s why so many questions are being asked of the management when the team puts in that kind of performance. I am one of those who is concerned. Maybe that’s why I could be accused of being entitled, which is what the recent posts have been debating. Gangway D from the terrace
  25. It seems we pretty much agree. I also don't agree with those who wanted Warne sacked after 3 games this season either, although in this instant society we have created they would argue he had most of the previous season and things have not improved but looked like it was getting worse. Personally I think Warne is walking on thin ice and we have to see improvement in performance and league position as we agreed - I too do not assume the points you mentioned and I really hope things tun for DC, for putting his hand in his pocket and saving our great club. I try to put myself in DC's position - he let Rosenior go and backed his horse by bringing in Warne - as a Football chairman you more often than not have to sack a manager - so you would think financially it's all part of the plan and you hope you don't have to pay out on, but in truth I've no idea how much it would cost. The Warne interview after the Shrewsbury game really annoyed me - it was a very poor performance I felt we didn't deserve anything from the game - and his whole interview contradicted that, especially about all the so called chances we never took. We should be better and we should be competing with the likes of Shrewsbury. I sincerely hope performances improve and debates like this are confined to history. I still don't think that's me being entitled. Gangway D from the terrace.
