Well he had to bring in Washington and Waghorn in desperation as he did with TJJ

Warne really didn’t bring Washington in ‘in desperation’. He bought him previously for Rovrum and he bought him again because he obviously rates him. He was his striker pick. Frankly he was, and always will be, a very poor choice.

There is no point buying a holding midfielder if Warne wants to persist with his tactics. It’s like buying a caravan for a Porsche Boxster.

If we had a decent alternative coach I would be fully behind getting another midfielder in, but not sure it would be a holding type. One who could pass forward and run with some intensity creating in the middle would be ideal.

Just making the point that transfer fees out trump training facilities, our huge history and fanbase etc etc which you mentioned in your original post.

And obviously we don't have the resources of other league 1 clubs if one has outbid us for a player we were in for.

Not necessarily. We may have come to a business decision on the player’s worth, and even though we had the resources to outbid the other side we were not prepared to exceed our valuation.

I happen to agree about Hourihane, I probably wouldn’t have him in the team. But I think it’s fair to say 5 goals and 6 assists in the league is a good return for a deep lying midfield player. Warne has said a few times that he wants to win every game so presumably he’s willing to take the risk of Hourihane being a defensive weakness

Warne was also willing to take the risk of him being named captain.

  4. Warne doesnt deserve or need online abuse, although I think calling him a PE Teacher or a Physio is fair game personally. This is a footy forum which should be an environment to let off a bit of steam, have a bit of banter, etc. If he is reading this site he needs to give his bobble hat a wobble.

I choose not to resort to name calling. Other than at my TV/iPad in my home. I had to apologise to the wife for my inapproriate language on Tuesday night when I screamed filthy abuse at him. I rarely listen to his post match comments, because they are pretty much rinse and repeat. But on Tuesday I wanted to hear him explain that abject performance. The bit that got my dander up was his comment regarding Reading holding on to the win. I can't recall his actual words but they were something like 'fair play to Reading, their game management at the end, defending their one goal advantage was very good. I wish we could do that'. I shouted something like well Paul that is your job, to organise some control in the last few minutes when we are trying to hold on to a lead, but when we are in the final minutes in such situations, we have full backs charging up the wings, with as much support as midfield can muster, to get the ball into the mixer, and win second balls. Something like that I said.

Anyhow. I am sure he is a very nice man.

I did make it up, its probably closer to 95%.

There were numerous times last night when simple passes were put straight out of play, nothing to do with fast forward play, just a lack of care with the ball, thats not on the manager.

Which of our players are not capable of playing fast football in your opinion?

Sorry, only just got round to seeing this. I don’t think many of our players are suited to playing Warne’s style of football in truth. Bird is technically our best footballer and could play fast football with those on the same wavelength. After that I am struggling.  CBT and NML are match winners in this league, and benefit from fast delivery but both are hit and miss in terms of performance, and in front of goal, and you certainly can’t rely on them to retain the ball. Collins and Sibley neither. If you bypass midfield to get it forward quickly to those 4 more often than not it will be coming back just as quick.

Why is it chaotic taking no more than 3 touches? These are professional footballer for goodness sake.

The quality of the passing was absolutely woeful last night, that's not down to the manager.

And if Warne is encouraging the players to move it forward quickly, why do 90% of Bird and Hourihanes passes go backwards, often to the same player it has just come from?

This isn't really a defence of Warne because the shape of the team that was working during our good run is no longer working and needs mixing up.

Please supply your evidence that 90% of Bird and Hourihane’s passes goes backwards. I think you have made that statistic up.

Passing quality will diminish if you urge players to move the ball forward quickly with an economy of touches. That is a Warne tactic/requirement of his players. He is happy to risk losing the ball for the possible advantages gained from fast forward play. That is not playing to the strength of a number of our players imo.

You could put Kevin de Bruyne in our midfield, it wouldn't make a difference because Warne actively bypasses the midfield.

It's a tactical choice that is currently, and will continue to, cost us points.

True. Bird is getting some pelters I see. He wasn’t good tonight, but it is beyond my energy tonight to explain how difficult it must be for anyone to play in the middle third of the park under Warne.

  8. The team are not coached to have any control. Another midfielder will not help if Warne continues to employ the tactics he wants us to play football.

I say football. It’s pinball. Players must be being encouraged to move it as forward as quickly as possible, taking no more than 3 touches. Chaotic, gas out type football.

I thought we might go up with our squad automatically, even with him in charge. I am beginning to think not.

You’re not selling it mate 😂. Played Tapestry in full on Sunday morning whilst preparing a roast.

Or , if you've got something that still plays discs, you could probably find a box set for next to nothing in a CEX type shop.

You could always buy a Doovde player too. Some good deals out there.

That’s awesome. In a word, life. You got me worried now that my wife will grow tired of me after 40 years. (15 years this month (I believe we got married on the same day this forum was founded)).

15 years together. Two young lovers who are as sweet on each other as they were then. Yes a few bickers along the way, but considering their many, many issues, I can see David and Boycie being an unbreakable union of love and devotion for years to come.

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure if I was coming to a point. But I got there in the end ……. there should be a rule. A mil a year, that’s the most anyone could possibly need. After that you get taxed 100%.

A mil a year?! That’s just my bar bill.
