Before the second world war, my Dad was big friends with Bertie Mee, who went on to manage Arsenal to the double in '71.

Anyhow, my Dad (actually a Forest fan) used to rib me that he used to do something I'd never done as a Rams fan - go to watch Derby reserves away. Mee never played for the first team for Derby, moving to Mansfield then guesting for Southampton during the war before injury ended his playing career.

Winter '68, instead of supporting whoever won the cup in any given year, I decided to settle on one club - and chose that from my birthplace....Derby. Good timing, eh?

Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankley. “Have you heard of the North Bank High-Bur-Ee”? Shanks said “No, I don’t think so, but I’ve heard of The Pop Side Derby”

    True story that. ?

  2. I work with a Boro fan, great bloke actually, but he loves Gibson, he’s very highly thought of up there so I would think any support from their fans would be as likely as the EFL doing something positive for the game.

Myself, I think a swift dose of karma (and maybe a severe dose of The Chalfonts) is in order for a man content to deprive the thoroughly decent people putting their hands in their pockets to cover the debt owed to St Johns Ambulance of their local football club. Shame on him.

  3. If we stay up this season it will be a remarkable achievement don’t  get me wrong, but for me, becoming the League Champions for the first time tops it.

A very good Arsenal team had done an almost unprecedented double the year before and Leeds boasted a team of 11 current international players every week at the time, much disliked, they were a formidable team and Shanks was getting close to making Liverpool a force to be reckoned with.

So topping the table with those illustrious teams behind us was a big deal indeed. If we weren’t skint I think it would have been a nice gesture of the club to give the surviving players some kind of memento to celebrate that achievement but we are where we are and times are hard, more’s the pity.

Genuine question @Pearl Ram, why the angry face? Would you rather we kept on about it? At the very least let's keep it to the Mel Morris fan club thread.

I rarely use the angry emoji, in fact, I just checked how often I have used it and it turns out I’ve used it four times since they were introduced. I can’t confirm when that was, suffice to say, it was a fair while ago.

I used it in this instance because I objected to your post telling people what they should post and when. It might be boring to you but as new information comes to light, and today, the BBC were running an article about us owing 29 million quid (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59358676) people should be free to make reference to this news and the person responsible for allowing it to occur.

Secondly, and you were the unfortunate to be on the receiving end of my mood at that moment, I had been sickened by the “David, can you tell me how to donate, I want to donate a hundred quid/David I’d like to know if the direct debit I’ve set up is enough? kind of posts I’d read just prior to reading your post.

Ive donated to the running costs of the forum in the past, even bought a dcfcfans tee shirt with the most ridiculous rams head logo I’ve ever seen because I thought it might be supporting the forum, but I never made an issue over either, that was between me and the proprietor of the forum.

So, while I stand by the reaction I gave your post, another day I might have just rolled my eyes and thought “who does he think he is telling people what and when to post” I do concede what I’d read just prior to reading your post probably influenced my thinking.

Out with a minor knee injury, expected to resume training next week.

Oh, I wasn’t aware of that, I was hoping he was being rewarded for his recent performances in the U23’s. I must pay more attention. Thanks for putting me right though. ?

  6. I do. He milked the adulation when things looked positive, couldn’t keep his trap shut, appearing on TalkSport whenever he liked, fans forums, giving it the big ‘un, yet not peep out of him when it all turned awry then he had the temerity to say if you say nasty things about me (at Pride Park) I’ll pull the plug.

Nobody said nasty things about him at the ground and guess what ? He pulled the chuffin’ plug anyway. I’ve no time for him.

Hoping the small number of naysayers will cut CK some slack now. The fact that he's looking to press ahead despite recent events really ought to be heartening and he does seem a genuine guy who is in it for the long-haul. We all need to rally around him and make the guy feel welcome if he does put up as seems very likely.

Just seen the Reading news... So how come they only get 6 points deducted for breaching P&S and we got 9? Someone enlighten me?

I explained earlier in the thread, they never did anything to cheese off Parry’s close friend Gibson. Obviously, that’s not fact but it’s the only thing I can come up with at this juncture.

  9. Do you know, I find this thread a refreshing tonic from all the shenanigans the club finds itself in currently so thank you for your contributions. ?

Now, maybe rules wouldn’t allow in those days but wouldn’t it have been simpler for Millwall to use their away kit that day and us to play in our black and white ?

Also, didn’t a similar thing happen elsewhere where we had to use another team’s kit ? I’m wracking my brain here because I’m sure I’ve seen a photo of us in another kit but I just can’t think of the match.

Edit...I’m thinking Archie Gemmill photographed playing for us but in another club’s kit. ?
