Just been looking on the BBC web site and it looks like Rotherham were set up as a 3-1-4-2 formation for the last 3 games.

So if we were to go with that -

    ----------------------Wildsmith

    -------Chester-------Davis--------Cashin

    ----------------------Bird

    Mendez-Laing---Knight-------Hourihane---Barkhauzin

    ------------------Collins------McGoldrick

    or -

    ----------------------Wildsmith

    -------Chester-------Davis--------Cashin

    ----------------------Bird

    Knight --------Thompson----Hourihane---Sibley

    ------------------Collins------McGoldrick

Personally I'd love to go oldschool, back to the Bald Eagle days with -

    ----------------------Wildsmith

    -------Chester--------Davis------Cashin

    Odhuoh--------------------------------------Forsyth

    -------------------Knight----Hourihane

    ---------------------McGoldrick

    -------------------Collins-----Dobbin

At the end of the day any feelings towards Liam will soon dissipate if we get promoted this season under Warne. It’s really hard to argue with his experience versus that of a novice. I’ve always thought Liam has spoken about the game impeccably but I’ve never been convinced by his ability to really command the respect of senior players (find his approach quite weak and uninspiring in the clips on RTV).

That said; he’s been an asset to the club in the seedlings of the post-EFL admin era.

Agree with is in part.  Although I enjoy his positivity, it didn't seem off the cuff.  It's like you could see the media training.

As for Warne, only time will tell.  Have been watching/reading/listening to stuff on him all morning and he certainly comes across as a progressive coach, and not the hoofball/"funkin get into em!" merchant he's been painted as by some.  A few Millers fans have also said their football this season has been a lot better now they haven't got that massive lump Smith to get it up to.  So again, I'm cautiously optimistic that we won't see a return to Rowett-Ball.

  3. With the players we've got, and some of the football we've shown in patches, we should be looking at play offs minimum.  I think most people's predictions of top half finish was a bit of kidology as we didn't know how quickly the new squad would gel.  If Warne can get the best out of Chester, NML, Barkhauzen, Hourihane, Sibley, Knight, McGoldrick & Collins we should be top 6 minimum.

I've said this a lot, but we have very good players for this level, and on paper we have arguably the best starting XI.  I know you don't win anything on a sheet of A4, and Sunderland, Ipswich, Portsmouth, Peterborough & Wednesday had strong teams and failed to go up, but those clubs came down the previous seasons because they were crap.  We didn't, we weren't amazing last season by any stretch, but we weren't the basket cases a lot of this season's divisional rivals were.

I was happy until I read "although the Timothy Dalton phase was a bit cheesy".  The Living Daylights is the best Bond film.

Really??  Better than From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Goldeneye, Casino Royale??  Admittedly Dalton (who went to school with one of my Primary school teachers, whose maiden name was Bond!) is very good in the role, but both of his films are average...

Any way, back on point, the more I listen to the below, you more I'm warming to the guy -

  5. I can't believe some folk are already moaning, and calling for LR's head.  Love how all the "I don't care what happens this season, I'm just glad we still have our club" enthusiasm has evaporated after 6 games.  I think some folks should give their heads a wobble, and realise that from the position we were in 6 weeks ago, to even be competitive is a minor miracle.  And speaking of heads, a little context, if Jason Knight could head a ball, we'd have got something from 2 of these away games and been 4 points better off.  Fine margins.  Goals will come.

After 3 games I've been pleasantly surprised by the style of play from our opponents so far. - very similar to the Championship

Decent footballing sides and not the expected sh1thousery that I'd heard about - and no constant long balls, long throws or time wasting.

However, this week we play against a Steve Cotterill side & a Scott Brown side - so my opinion may have changed by Saturday night

Funny cus I thought that's exactly what Barnsley were doing on Saturday.  Admittedly it wasn't Graham Taylor's Watford levels of hoof but I couldn't watch that each week.  And if Norwood was anywhere near as interested in playing as a proper No 9 instead of barrelling into his markers and generally being a fat lump, he may of caused us some problems.  I thought Oxford were a better side...

Shaun Barker’s commentary vs Oxford was - as always - spot on Hourihane spends lengthy periods not being involved in the game.

That wasn’t through him not making an effort to get involved. I counted at least half a dozen times where he dropped into the wide spaces left by either a Barkhauzen or NML run but Bird or one of the centre halves went short to someone else.  I’m assuming Rosinior wants him to do this so he has time to play a through ball to Collins or switch play to the opposite wing.  Plus when they were in possession he was diligently pressing when it was needed.

He’ll be more involved when we start giving him the ball more

I’m very much inclined to agree with you but we’re assuming rather being able to make actual comparisons.

You’re right.  As if the mens team would win anything…

The girls have shown such joy in winning and the celebrations are just a big party.

Seems so different to the mena championships. It's half an hour after the match finished and the stadium is still well populated, the tunes are belting out and all the girls are thanking the crowd for coming.

    It's really lovely.

I don't know how you can do a comparison. Whilst I much prefer watching England's women's team to the men I'm sure if we'd won the men's Euros at Wembley the crowd then would have stayed well after the final whistle.

Whilst I agree that if the lads had won, the stadium would’ve still been rocking well after the final whistle, I doubt the mens team would celebrate in the same way.  The men are too media trained nowadays.  Couldn’t see Kane leading a conga line through the media room whilst Gareth was doing his press conference…

  10. I didn’t think it was possible, but ITV has managed to make less of an effort than Quest with their coverage.  Nothing says “Footballs back!” More than 5 minutes of Cardiff’s laboured 1-0 win over Norwich.  And to cap it all off the action was analysed by the personality black hole that is Dean Ashton.

    Piss poor

  11. Great day.  Great atmosphere.  Great winning goal.  Great interplay between NML and Knight.  Great that the admins got the shout out to my Mrs at half time spot on.  Great that my son has finally seen us win a game.  Great that Rosinior is off to a winning start.  Great that I shouted that loadly at Hourihane’s goal that I went dizzy and almost passed out.

Doncaster accrued 24 points at home versus 14 away.

Still struggling to pinpoint why our away record was that abysmal last season.

People have asked in the grand scheme of things what does it matter? Well if one person who's constant with this season and last is still at the club then yes it could matter if it's not down to the playing personnel.

I've done a little research and relegated Championship/League 1 team's home records last season were -

    Championship - Derby 40pts/Peterborough 25/Barnsley 22

    League 1 - Gillingham 20pts/Crewe 20/Doncaster 24/Wimbledon 20

Our record is the outlier because we weren't as bad a side as the others.

  13. 5 minutes ago, Tyler Durden said:

In League 1 last season 2 out of the 3 teams relegated also found themselves in the bottom 3 of the table for points accrued in away games that season.

Which demonstrates there is a direct correlation between the quality of the players and away points realised.

I'm only replying to comments apropos the quality of our players wasn't accountable for our league position.

Which then doesn't stack up when you compare and contrast with other relegated teams without points deductions in the Championship and League 1 and the points they realised on their travels.

So for me isn't as simplistic as that.

That's a better way of stating your argument.

Out of interest, out of those 3 teams, did any of them have as good a home record as ours?

  14. 15 minutes ago, Tyler Durden said:

Only Peterborough and Barnsley accrued a fewer number of away points last season then we did and were the poorest teams in the division by a country mile.

So again same question still stands, why are folks maintaining that we didn't get relegated last season due to the quality of our team.

If the quality of our team was so good then why did we witness the above?

Jesus wept!!!  Does it matter how we accrued our points total??  The inarguable fact is that we gained enough points to finish outside the divisions relegation zone if we hadn't been docked 21 points due to bad business practices.  There's nothing in the rules that state that a certain number of those points have to be gained in away fixtures, so why does it matter that a majority of them were won at home???

  15. 1 minute ago, Tyler Durden said:

OK in the away games preceding this still in the same season we lost 6 out of 13 of the away games we played, only winning  twice - against Hull and Stoke.

So out of 25 away games in total we lost 16 of them or a 64% losing rate or a 20% ppg conversion rate of points realised against possible points - meaning we had to play 5 away games just to get 3 points on the board.

Does that not strike you as a poor team? If not then what else can this horrendous conversion rate be attributed to which is my original question that still stands.

I think you can attribute it to loosing a number of players in the January window, especially Jagielka & Shinnie.  Two big characters on & off the pitch.

We weren't a brilliant side by any measure, but the fact remains that without the points deduction we would've finished 17th.  And as I've said previously I believe that if we had a decent striker, playing the majority of matches we'd have stayed up even with the -21.

Whilst correct in saying that although we were relegated, we weren't a poor side, that side has been decimated. Lost both keepers, both full backs, leading goalscorer, 2 good young wide players and the manager, amongst others.

Whilst we've made some good signings, they're all players no longer wanted by their clubs and we've virtually starting from scratch.

That said, very early signs are encouraging.

Admittedly I was disappointed to lose Alsop, but Roos is more than replaceable.  Hopefully Forsyth will resign.  Lawrence is obviously a big miss but I'm confident Barkhauzen & NML can compensate for those goals &  assists between them.  I think we've a definite upgrade in attack with McGoldrick and Collins.  Let's face it, if we'd had a decent Championship 1 in 3 striker last season we'd have stopped up.

I'm still confident of a successful season.
