  1. George Thorne when at his brilliant best, Mason Mount and Chris Martin who scored a lot of goals for us.

Lots of great players miss out, but our problem this season will be scoring enough goals to stay up and all of these would help immensely, Thorne because of his ability to turn defence into attack and because he was good enough to do the job of two defensive midfielders, freeing us up to have another forward on the pitch.

  2. What's most galling about this is that it was the terrible behaviour of the Sheffield United players haranguing and intimidating the ref until he changed his mind about the card which should have been punished. At no point did the Derby players appear to do anything untoward. My complaint is we're far too nice as a team and are an easy target because of that as we don't stand up for ourselves enough. Here's another case in point.

  3. Sliding doors. Had we won the final he'd likely have stayed. Though I still say his best position would be as a (sole) central defensive midfielder.

That said, I don't believe I've ever seen a faster defender. You'll never beat Tomori. He's done brilliantly, making the hard choice to go to Italy to prove himself and play week in, week out, learning the art of defending from the best. Even if he's been overlooked for too long by Southgate as a result. Congratulations to Fikayo as he comes back into the fold.

We watched the final episode of Vigil last night.

    Episode 1 - David Nish/10

    Episodes 2 - 4 - Ron Webster/10

    Episode 5 - Derek Hales/10

    Episode 6 - Derek Hales mum/10

I'd like to have a word with the people plying the scriptwriters with drink.

Soooo many plot flaws and soooo much nonsense starting about half way into the 5th episode.

    ...

This has massive promise and ended up like something FOX TV would have made with some swearing.

What did you think @Carl Sagan?

You did better than me. I confess I stopped watching towards the end of ep3 and haven't gone back to it. I go to a lot of previews and it's a common theme that episode 1 seems great and then a show tails off. Partly the initial enthusiasm is likely the emotion of being there watching with cast, crew and writers, but it's also that I know how much work goes into writing a pilot episode, which is honed and honed and honed again to within an inch of its life to get the show away, but then after maybe years of waiting, you have to write the rest of a series super quickly. It's a bit like second album syndrome for a band, when you've had your whole life to write the first one, and then you have to do the second in three months in the middle of touring the first!

I saw a lot of people with doubts about Vigil as it went along and I'm sorry I recommended it and put a few people through it. I worry Foundation is going to go the same way.

I just get frustrated with his habit of negative passing. Hear me out before you attack!

He gets into habits of doing it. He'll do it all match, every match for a period and then suddenly wake up and look completely different.

When he refuses to face the right way and plays like Bryson in defensive midfield it's so frustrating and pointless. He's obviously capable of more.

He's like either part of the major problem or part of the major solution.

Off the ball, yeah. I'm a full time fan

I agree with this and called him out on it early in the match thread as it was doing my head in. But to his credit he seemed to stop it and started looking forward, suddenly becoming enormously effective.

Face the right way and drive forward and he's great.

  6. I curse myself often for not buying into Bitcoin when I was a technology publisher and knew about it from its very early days. But there you go. However, I've been fortunate on a small scale with investments. What I don't get at this stage is how to convert some profits back to fiat (aka traditional) currencies without incurring massive tax penalties.

If/when the day comes that you can simply buy everyday things out of a crypto wallet it won't be a problem but right now I believe the revenue comes after you if you take more than £5k off an exchange into a bank account in any one financial year. I have a Coinbase account and they're legally obliged to report this to HMRC. What do people do, or are they just letting things ride for now?

I realize it's a nice problem to have.

I’ve been critical of Rooney in the past on here so in the interest of balance I have to say he’s winning me over.  10 games in and you can see a style and pattern of play taking shape.  He’s trying to get us to play decent football, build from the back but with pace on the counter attack.

The last couple of weeks have also shown how tough his job has really been and highlighted some of the difficulties and problems he’s had that we haven’t always seen.  To find out about administration on TV must be tough but he’s handled himself well.  I also admire his honesty such as saying if he knew how bad it really was he wouldn’t have taken the job but following it with what sort of person would I be if I walked away.  It would be so easy to trot out the usual lines of it’s a big club, honoured to be here, etc.

He’s clearly building a great team spirit too.  The players clearly want to work for him.  We’re in for some tough weeks and months ahead but I’m starting to think he can bring us out of this in better shape.  Whatever happens this season, he deserves a chance to manage us in “normal” circumstances.

What FBM said. Well done, Wayne.

How much of an impact did the traffic issues have? Do we deserve a club if so few go in our hour of need? I didn't go but I don't own a car and can't get back to London after a midweek game. But I feel guilty. Will more come if these battling performances continue? Yet the crowd, when reduced to these numbers as in times gone by, is at their most supportive of the team. As gates swell, it often mutes them, and the moaners return. Is it better right now to have the hard core players and fans in it together? Us against the world.

  10. From the Reading (Hobnobs) matchthread: https://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=188819

"Don't think we have been too bad but Derby have looked pretty good. Well organised defensively and looked to target our full backs."

"Lol got away with one there " [When the penalty wasn't given]

"I think the ref might of spent a bit of time in Derby in the past because he seems to hate the place and all the cnuts in it."

"Grim old game this. Can see Derby staying up, hard to break down and do the basics well."

"They are a decent, well organised side to be fair to them. Hard to break down. If they are poor then what are we?"

"Rubbish second half. Ponderous, sloppy and not good enough. Derby deserved winners, look solid but we’ve helped them out a fair bit with our ineptitude. Really frustrating."

"We weren’t great tonight but credit where it’s due Derby did their job, all their players put a shift in and were well organised. Fair result."

"You could see why Derby don`t let many in and don`t score many."

"If you'd offered me 10/15 points this month I would have ripped your hand off so I won't be too critical, not a great showing by us but I really don't get the "Derby were terrible, how did we lose to them?" type of comments, they got their goal, defended well and frankly their goalkeeper made the saves he needed too."

"Derby pulled off the neat trick of being able to press us high up the pitch and make it difficult to play out and also have all their team behind the ball to stop us from going through them. Their shape was good but our utterly ponderous fanny ball really played into their hands."

I had to go out so missed the second half.

We're showing all the right kinds of battling qualities needed to stay up. Clean sheets go a long way, and right now we don't look like conceding many goals at all.

Turn PP into a fortress and we'll have a chance.

In our circumstances pre-season I wouldn't have given Curtis a contract as I didn't feel we could risk him after the injury. But he is proving himself a star defender. Makes me wonder what might have been had we built the defence around him a few years ago. I think that was his 100th start for us tonight. According to the stats guys I've spoken with, a clean sheet averages out as worth 2.5 points. I just wish we had a bit more threat up top, but Rooney is doing well with the terrible hand he's been dealt. With such a solid defence we are always in the game and we can finally hold onto a lead.

My hope is we can now accrue enough points to stay positive when the EFL hit us again. The target for this team is to show they'd have made the playoffs if it weren't for the ongoing issues. Which would be miraculous.

  12. Awful awful officials. They have to get those decisions right. But we stood strong despite that and should have scored more anyway. But we are so solid. We have the second best defence in the division, having conceded one more than Bournemouth.

Brilliant from Allsop coming in who did everything asked of him.

Brilliant from Stearman ditto, especially having been booked really early on.

We are already on plus points despite a 12 point deduction. That was so important. We'd be 11th without the deduction.

    Come on you Rams!

Looked blatant handball on my box, granted it’s on red button and looks like it’s being filmed on a Nokia 7210 but blatant all the less!

It was blatant in real time but on Rams TV I waited for the replay, just to be certain. Extraordinary not to give the penalty. The player is 8 yards from the cross with no one around him and blocks it with his hand a mile from his body.

  14. Great run from Stretton there, from the halfway line, from a standing start. He showed a brilliant turn of speed to get into the box and take the shot. It's an odd thing to say but he's the only Derby player on the pitch (it's only him and Sibley available tonight) who are desperate to score. No one else wants it badly enough. Which is why I'm disappointed Stretton didn't score earlier from a cut back on the left. A tremendous opportunity to open his Pride Park account.

Derby nemesis Junior Hoilett is now on. I feel we really need a second goal. Reading are beginning to win a lot of ball in midfield and create chances.

Sibbo is apparently due to come on. And boy do we desperately need his forward impetus. Yet the ball has gone dead twice since the RamsTV people said that and we've not made the vital change required. Too slow Rooney!
