  1. I don't know who this Jake Barker person is (maybe he's on here?) but he's been on ITV News so must have some sort of profile. He claims (in the reply to the main tweet) that Wassall has "wanted out for a while:

I'd be a little surprised as surely if Wassall wanted a move he could go almost anywhere after the work he's done at Derby? But as this has dragged on, I can imagine much of the atmosphere at the club has become toxic.

Could that be to keep him at the club?

If we go into administration with him as a director, I think he would have to leave,  but as a coach he could stay.

I've no idea about how all this c**p works, but I hope you're right.

Okay but not worth the hype. Wayne Rooney (the player) / 10.

That film has the weirdest ending alongside No country for old men.  Both out the same time and both very puzzling.

It's all about opinions. No Country for Old Men was pretty good, probably 8 out of 10 good. But OMG There Will Be Blood was a shockingly awful movie. What did the critics see in it? No more than 2 out of 10 for me. Terrible ham acting from Daniel Day-Lewis.

  4. It's going to be at least 24 points deducted now when all is said and done, so that basically means to stay up we will need playoff form over the course of the whole season. So we need 67 more points from the  remaining 39 games or over 1.7 points a game. We could do with beating Stoke to start us off.

    Total baalocks Carl.

He could quite easily chuck the money at us to keep us upright, wouldn't even make a dent in his fortune.

Yet he's seen us capsized after turning off the funding taps he'd loosened.

Quite frankly, he should fund us until he's flat broke, otherwise he should never have got involved.

The way to make a small fortune is to start with a large fortune and buy a football club. That seems to me what Mel has done. I have no idea how much is left but I certainly wouldn't believe the Sunday Times rich list figures.

  6. I'm with @RoyMac5 on this one. I don't think the EFL ever expected Mel to pull the plug and were enjoying keeping him squirming for as long as they possibly could, unable to sell us. As demonstrated by the threat in their statement earlier this week: "There are no timescales for this matter to be concluded and the League will not be providing any further comment at this time."

Yes of course fault lies with Mel too, but whatever he's done wrong, for good or ill he's had the best interests of the club at heart. And clearly today that's shown to be for ill. But I don't believe in recent years the EFL have had the club's best interests or football's best interests at heart.

Apologies to mods if I've quoted too much... but that last paragraph was the most interesting bit.

Blame goes in many places but I do believe a significant portion is down to the EFL. They should never have appealed the Disciplinary Commission acquittal of us. That is what has primarily led to this.

You're prepared to miss watching Derby in the FA Cup Final?

Wouldn't that be the ultimate football fairytale?

It seems that we will now be under embargo for a further two seasons, so any buyers won't be able to put much money in for the January window. But they will have to see us as a relatively long-term investment. Nest season is in League One unless the EFL finds a reason to relegate us further down. This is not an easy league to escape from. There at the moment we find Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Bolton and Portsmouth. Perhaps we'll even be joined by the gumps.

Blaming COVID is a ducking joke

I disagree with that. It's made it an unprecedented difficult time.

If we're going to do this we should do it properly. Let's try and rack up the biggest points deduction in a single season in football league history.

    -12 for admin

    -3 for unpaid wages

    -12 for ffp

    What else can we do?

Are the points piled on top like that? If so, my only question is how certain are we that we can fulfil our fixtures?

Hoping so, then do we start next season in League One, with new owners and the club debt free?

Very grim night for the club and fans.

  9. For me Wilder is the best unemployed English manager at the moment, with a track record of taking Sheffield United from League One to the Premier League and then competing very effectively towards the top of the PL on a limited budget. I suggest it only went wrong because of Covid and the empty grounds.

According to Sky the Gumps help talks with Wilder but have decided to pursue other options (ie Cooper).

    https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11727/12409759/steve-cooper-in-talks-with-nottingham-forest-after-chris-hughton-is-sacked-by-championship-club

If Wilder was considering it, they'd be mad not to pull out all the stops to bring him in.

For me, the clue is in the semantics of the word weekend - it literally means the end of the week

so "next week" and "next week-end" are analogous. "Next week" and "the end of next week"

and the same goes for "this week" and "this week-end"

You wouldn't say "next week" if you were referring to the current week - makes no sense. It's clear to everyone what "next week" means, so why would "next weekend" mean the end of THIS current week?

The mistake being made is people using the word "next" literally - this weekend is obviously the next weekend that will occur, but it ignores the meaning of the word weekend, and so "next weekend" becomes a grammatical paradox

Hopefully that's settled it and we can move on to the more burning issue of why the French say "Le Weekend"

Why is the weekend a man?

For me, this highlights that YouGov like all polling organizations should be viewed with a very large pinch of salt. Your own poll (at the time of writing) is rather definitive (21-0)!

  11. Went to The Vaccines (very appropriately named!) at the Electric Brixton last night. Absolutely fantastic, packed out and everyone enjoying themselves. Was my first gig since Covid. Coming up in the next few weeks I have:

    • King No One
    • Ninth Wave
    • Echobelly
    • Working Men's Club
    • OMD
    • Cleopatrick

Both Belinda Carlisle and Blondie have been rearranged to next year so not everyone is ready to perform yet.

Am I right in thinking that all this transfer embargo rubbish is in place to just frustrate clubs, to stop them appealing and taking it to the courts with the EFL knowing/hoping the length of time appeals take and with an embargo in place most clubs will just bend over and accept the punishment?

    no

    Yes.

  13. It's clear the EFL is trying its best to hit us really hard, so I think 60 points on the field is the target to be absolutely safe this season. That's 39 games to accrue 53 points or 1.36 points a game. I don't see that we will manage that. Simplifying, it's practically 13 wins, 13 draws, 13 defeats, meaning win one draw one lose one every three games from now on is pretty much what we need to be getting.

  14. If it is Cooper I'm happy with that, especially as he'll cost them 1-1.5 million in compensation apparently (even though he's left Swansea). Didn't rate him. Though I'd rather it was an unknown foreign manager with no Championship experience who would take the next several months to try (and fail) to get up to speed.

Surely their big fat Greek owner is getting bored of it all by now and wants a way out?

  15. The really ominous line from the EFL which comes across as a threat is:

"There are no timescales for this matter to be concluded and the League will not be providing any further comment at this time."

This is a not so subtle message to Derby that "either you agree to us punishing you with a hefty deduction or we'll keep you in embargo for ever and you'll never be able to sell your club, Mr Morris. Which will serve you right for trying to lead a breakaway TV deal."

This has been said a hundred times on this and other threads. Here’s the thing. If we were sure of our accounting ground, we would file the final accounts with companies house, we would file our P&S statements with the EFL and we would say: these are compliant, you can have no complaint

We have not done that. So is it not clear that we are in a grey area (yet another one), and that we are not completely sure of our ground ??

Oh I agree. It's always going to be a matter of interpretation, both for the EFL and for us. If it goes back to a Disciplinary Commission and we begin again, I suggest both sides would be unclear what would be decided. But the EFL will try to pick people sympathetic to their cause.
