Woakes is a great player in England, New Zealand etc where there's a bit in the pitch. He's not so suited to India or Australia IMHO. A bit like Curran, he would be in as a bowler who might make a few runs down the order.

I think against the top sides you need to rely on your specialists.

Even Stokes looked pretty ordinary as a bowler and got lucky against Kohli.

I think you are right. But why select Woakes in the first place?

There has to have been more purpose to Woakes' selection than just giving Moeen a lift to the airport.

I think if you were picking your absolute best team then yes.

However, England needs to build its fast-bowling armoury for the Ashes.

There's a good chance we won't keep them both fit so they are likely to be rotated.

Archer is more of a battering ram than a five wickets man.

At some stage Olly Stone will get a go. No use dragging him around the world without picking him.

    He's pretty sharp too.

You're probably right. As a Warwickshire man myself, I'd love to see Olly Stone in action.

On a similar note, Chris Woakes is still around, isn't he?

Why are we still batting? We lead by 408 with probably @109 over left in the game. Don't understand the logic to be honest.

We could have declared earlier. I'm usually an advocate of early declarations but then I'm not going to take any of the poo if it goes wrong.

I would also enforce the follow on from my armchair.

This time, though, I think he wanted to avoid a scenario where he declares 370 or 80 on and they are 100 for none at the close. The bowlers have a sleepless night knowing that India are well set and need under 100 per session on a pitch that might not be as demonic as people expect.

As it is now, India can't win and if the pitch plays silly buggers, the bowlers should sort it all out.

I don't blame him for not being cavalier.

You can not question Joe Root as batmans but as for captaincy (along with Silverwood) the are a lot of questions. The total lack of momentum at the end of that innings showed weakness rather that dominance. And why the hell would you send out you best bowler as a number 11 batsman when you are 400+ ahead and risk a ball smacking him on the hand or arm and getting an injury, crazy just crazy.

It's probably not worth your blood pressure ?

I think it will because regardless of a win or not it will show that England and Wales had not much faith in there bowlers to defend over 400 runs. If that isn't the case why not just put the hammer down after tea and run the score up rather than eat up the overs.

Isn't he actually putting more trust in his bowlers by giving them fewer overs?

There is also recent history of India chasing down a big target at this ground, not to mention that the pitch has been as flat as a witch's tit for most of the match

I see Liam from Benidorm is still in charge, IMO just looking a Joe Root's body language when talking to Siverwood and Anderson this is no plan they simply have no clue what to do. I'm sure England and Wales will still go on to win the test but the end of that innings was shocking.

If they do go on to win as you are sure they will, it won't really matter what you thought about the end of the innings, will it?

If a player is good enough, then they wait for the second time that a club comes in for them, because they will. The lad could have stayed here for another 2 seasons and potentially bagged 50+ appearances. He benefits and so do we. £10m to us is a substantial amount of money. To Liverpool it's next to nothing. Wrong decision. This is the second time this has happened in the last year. The club needs to prevent it from happening again.

Then again, they shipped Whiticker out like it was nothing. Our outgoings for as long as I remember have been shambolic. There's only a few exceptions.

There are 2 ways to prevent it:

    1. Becoming one of the giants of the English game and so making us as attractive a proposition as Liverpool, Man Utd etc.

    2. Having only dreck in our academy, so nobody else wants them.

I know a better game - lets ask a 16 year old without an agent in his ear thinking about his/her commission when the deal gets done.

IMO, anybody still at school should never have a decision made by money and a decision should be solely based on the development of that child. Even his mum said yesterday he was being paid 4x what Derby offered. This lads decision isn't based on football matters, only financial gain.

When Kaide walked into Moor Farm when he was 6/7/8 whatever age he came through, Derby was the right move for him. Why isn't it now? Money, money, money. And again, his mum said last night, look at the training facilities of Liverpool compared to Derby. So disrespectful to say that because those facilities have got him to where he is now during the last 10 years.

Enjoy the limelight for the next few months/years and hopefully you've made the right decision for your son.

Ok. Ask a 16-year-old without an agent whether they'd move to Liverpool. Go on.
