  1. Bit of a random one that I’d really recommend for it’s any WWII/history fans. Currently on the  uktv play app there is the 1970’s doc The World At War. It’s a bloody slog, in that there’s a lot of info so I can only get through an episode a night but it’s well worth it.

    Also narrated by Laurence Olivier!

They have comedy nights at The Shiny Tap in Little Eaton.

Apparently it’s a real (ale) laugh!

I’m here all week, try the lamb.

I would also add Simon Lomas is a very very good up and coming stand up. Maybe slightly ‘off-kilter’ but saw him twice on bills in Sheffield pre pandemic and had the crowd fully on side/belly laughing with him both times.

Seems to pop up on bills all over the place now. Looks like a good show with the added joy of being in a brewery!

  3. I know there’s a few comedy/stand up heads on the forum so thought it might be worth starting a thread.l to post upcoming shows/festivals/reviews etc etc

    Anyway…

Daniel Kitson has announced a tour of outdoor shows including two in Derby at Melbourne Hall on June 18th and July 14th. Don’t think ticket links will be about for another week but once they are up I’ll post a link.

And didn’t Nicko get mardy about that. Can’t blame him mind you, he puts his updates behind a paywall and someone screen shots it and puts it on Twitter ?

Oh I haven’t seen the fallout!

Patreon is a great service for small independent artists, podcast types, journalists that are looking for a bit of a supplement to their income or if you have roughly 5,000-10,000 supporters who are willing to bung you a few quid a month. It gives people without a stable monthly income at least a guarantee each month.

It will not work if you are one of the biggest football league journalists where your exclusive content needs to be spread around different fanbases

Out of interest, has he left The Sun to do this?

With Chris Bailey of the Saints  passing away yesterday I have been tossing up between the classic I’m Stranded and Know your product. One of Brisbane’s greatest acts.

Nearly did a thread on Chris Bailey’s passing.

I honestly think The Saints are the epitome of what punk is. Even more than some of NY bands, Iggy, Clash etc. In that you are trying to emulate what’s gone before on your budget. How do you emulate Phil Spector’s wall of sound without the production value? You turn up the guitars to sound bigger, you play a little faster to hide any mistakes etc. That’s The Saints to me and it’s why I bloody love them.

His recent tweets about improving the matchday experience are really encouraging. It looks like he's going to bring a fresh perspective, which is great.

If he actually has the money, I'm fully behind him.

    It's just a big 'if'.

Kinda made this point a week or so ago, but in strict business terms derby has a very loyal fan base and can attract 20,000-30,000 to Pride Park (you’ll see the higher echelon of that with the Rooney factor). Any prospective owner should be looking to get every penny it can do out of that fanbase. Get more fans in early and staying later, family meal deals, better merch, decent local beer, early day ko’s on the screens, post match analysis after games.

The survival of Derby County isn’t about who has the most money, it’s who has the best business strategy to keep the club viable for many years to come. Ofcourse there’s more to it than this but it’s about using what’s available to you.

Perhaps this is why? Thought it was odd at the time and kicked off lots of who owns the stadium stuff. ? So for old times sake... ?

For a bit of balance, “Andy” posted this three days ago before coming back to stir the pot. Have no issue with his info, but frankly his/his mates motives are questionable and his posts are too unbalanced. He can do one because he’s just playing on peoples distressed emotions.

  8. With the points deduction I think it could be interesting. I think my big takeaway this season is that having teams with deductions is spoiling it somewhat. Not just for is, I mean the competition as a whole. Maybe it’s ok when everyone have something to play for, like mid season and with Sheff Wed last year, but like now there are nearly 10 clubs that it’s more or less decided for with 6 or more games to go. So we have teams that aren’t playing for anything against teams scrapping relegation or sneaking into the play offs with 18 points still up for grabs.

It’s worth bearing in mind that we can see clubs now doing exactly what we did trying to reach the play offs and clubs spending their parachute money not achieving promotion, it’s quite likely other clubs are gonna be caught through ffp or even have to consider administration so we could be looking at season after season being disrupted by points deductions in the championship.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the EFL become very reluctant to keep handing out deductions and look at other solutions, which is probably what is happening with us now for next year that they will look at another way to hand out a punishment. The only issue is how would Derby feel if the rules change after the couple of seasons we’ve had to endure? Not to mention Bury and Macclesfield.

  9. This isn’t my tweet, but just wanted to acknowledge its sentiment. I think sometimes the online world and forum’s like this can live in a vacuum somewhat and those who trade in the online world (a la Nixon, Percy, Talksport) end up being king or atleast shape the discussion. This is why we have such a scramble for being the first one to release info and everyone getting over excited.

But behind that, Radio Derby have done a very good job. We’ve not always agreed with them, and they’ve not done everything right imo, but they’ve probably been the most consistent for news and what’s going on. What we thought in September is very different to what we know now and they’ve had to learn and inform as they went along with everyone else. Ed has always been ahead of the news throughout and worked tirelessly to do so. Chris Coles is very highly thought of anyway and has kept the debate sensible. Those Rams Daily podcasts/sportscene has been largely excellent at keeping the fanbase informed. Also the recent reintroduction of Colin Gibson as an experienced media pro has been welcome and a positive move.

Maguire has always been willing to talk, and whilst he’s splits many of us, I do think he’s been doing it to help football fans understand what’s going on. I have to admit my opinion of him has done a complete 180.

So yeah, I just think they deserve a bit of appreciation for the work they’ve put in so far, from somewhere they wouldn’t expect it from.

Sorry but cant believe some of the crap on here . What do people WANT are we waiting for JESUS to take us over thats never done anything wrong . The amount of people that have done dubious stuff and still in positions of well paid roles is ridiculous you could write a thread 1000 pages long and over on people .

Yes its not great but hey its over 10 years ago who knows if he still thinks the same things but waiting for Jesus will see Derby in the sunday league .

What we need now is the -15 applied this season over and done with and do a rotherham next year at least get back up in 2 years and all of this will be forgotten. Whether mr gibson will be happy at -15 applied this season is another matter and yes i stil lthink he will kick up a fuss and other chairman if its not applied next year .Although technically we are not relegated yet so the application of -15 would count to a penalty this season as it certainly takes us down so its worth going after .

I want Kirchner he is 34 and is obviously an eager beaver . MA wouldnt be bad and a proven track record but even the house of commons took a very very close look at his ethics and it makes me laugh most people would be happy to have him and not kirchner on that basis alone not counting his obvious money pit .

Get Kirchner in a new broom and a new start nest year L1 is not that bad we have been there before we will get out but whether its at first time of asking is the question .

I don’t think it’s worth OTTing the response to Kirchner on either side of the debate. There is legitimate questions to ask financially, ethically, what his plans are etc, but they need to be asked at the right time. We are still yet to hear him speak and there’s still a lot of hurdles to get over before we even get to a point that this is going to happen.

From the fan perspective, we are now likely to have a club and hopefully we might keep hold of Rooney. We can’t sweep any reservations under the rug, but there’s just a time and a place for it.

  11. Re: the tweets I’ll just add one thing.

Pretty sure I’ve mentioned before that I’ve worked with LGBT community orchestrating events at a venue in the city I live. Whilst I’m not part of the community, and I can’t speak for them, I’ve had quite a few experiences and can take a guess. If there’s one thing that will annoy people who are LGBT as much as the tweets themselves, is that football fans are dragging their community into something using 10 year old tweets from someone they will not care about. I loathe to say it’s the idea of virtue signalling, but this is of no benefit to that community it’s just showing them potentially upsetting material to ‘one up’ against another football team. It’s using them essentially, when people within that community just want to live a normal hassle free life.

Im uncomfortable with the tweets, Im uncomfortable with some stuff he’s been tweeting recently too to be honest. But it can be dealt with by being sincerely apologetic so he can draw a line under it.

I have no idea why the EFL would agree to deduct another 15 points now, so it leaves us with a clean slate next season. We’re very likely to be relegated without any more  deductions, and even still, if we stayed up and had -15 with further restrictions on who we can bring in, we’ll be more likely to lose players and suffer another long season battling the impossible. I genuinely think we’d be in a stronger position as a Club if we started clean in League One, than with a points deduction & more restrictions in the Championship.

I don’t officially know what they can or can’t do, but I think it’s always been in the EFL’s want to see us relegated this season. It shows their punishments work no matter how much of a shambles it was getting there. So if they guarantee relegation, clean slate with the club and we all move on? That kinda works for everyone.

Binnies is one I’ve seen in a few different places tbh…

Who knows, this could be a bawt misstep in trying to get ahead of everyone else and in the process have made a few others will look silly…but all these social media rumours/leaks are another example of how badly this whole process has been handled.

We will know through the the official/local journalist channels when there is something to know!
