Would u rather we played well but lost

i know what ur reply will be and yes we all want that

but in the absence of beautiful football and the right results

No I’d always pick an ugly win over a pretty loss because it’s a results based business but my manager should have aspirations far higher than that with a talented squad.

It isn’t melodramatic at all to want to hear something more positive from our gaffer.

Paid a lot of money for a season ticket. Invest a lot of time in following and watching derby. I’m allowed to express my view without you trying to patronise me.

He could have said ‘look results will always be the most important part of football but obviously we’re working hard to ensure performances match the talent available in the squad’

But he commented on how performances haven’t been good and he wants them to improve earlier in the interview. It feels like you’ve zoned in on that one point he made about results mattering most (which let’s face it they do from his perspective) and ignored some of his other comments.
Ideally it’ll be a combination of performance and results to keep everyone happy, however if we have to sh*thouse our way into the championship this season then it’ll still be the end result everyone wants, just a rougher journey.

Warne on radio derby when asked if he wants the wins to turn into better performances:

not really if we win the next 20 matches with only 1 shot on target that’d do

I despair.

We’d be top of the table though. Was he not simply pointing out that as the team manager his first job is to get as many points as possible

I'll take 20...1-0 wins over 20 games where we win 10 draw 4 and lose 6 playing entertaining football, The message to all is...get out of this division.

It's FECKING AWFUL!!!

The issue is that we wouldn’t win all those 20 matches playing like we did today. I’m buzzing we won. Loved seeing the penalty go in but I’m not deluding myself into thinking that was anything other than shakey.

Last 3 league games we’ve had a total of 4 shots on target and 3 were penalties.  That’s very poor.

but…  they all went in!

Isn't that also very good 😊

You just can’t rely on that level of efficiency though. We will regress to the mean. Everything always regresses to the mean and when that happens the goals dry up.

The comment I zoned in on must have been quite a surprise for the commentator and Steele who both brought it up on two separate occasions since he said it.

I don't think anyone including the OP is trying to say that you don't have the right to express your views.

Not sure about the necessity to say you have spent money on a season ticket etc as that really doesn't make your opinion any more valid than a supporter who hasn't but that's another matter.

We won away from home and kept a clean sheet - isn't that positive in itself?

I don’t know what he was trying to do but it didn’t inspire. Basically ‘i don’t care if it looks absolutely dross as long as we win’ which is concerning as without an improvement in performances we simply won’t win 20 matches.

As I’ve said before I enjoyed watching the goals go in. I enjoyed the sense of relief on the final whistle but yet again a team with less resources than us were playing better football than us. I’m tired of watching us being outplayed by managers who are squeezing more out of what they have at their disposal whereas we are significantly worse than the sum of our parts. I’m worrying now because I don’t want to be regretting missed opportunities further down the line in this season. We cannot spend much longer down here, financially never mind what we as supporters want.

The poll attached to this thread is absolutely unhinged.

Of course we are happy with three points, what a a daft question.

It's absolutely acceptable to be happy with the points but not the performance.

Climb out your own arse. The entire forum has put up with you expressing your opinion and now I've expressed mine. Get over it tinsel tits.

Just need to sort our home form out and then I think we'll all be able to accept scrappy away performances like that. They're much easier to digest when you know that every opposition that comes to Pride Park is getting a tonking. Fingers crossed we can start against Cambridge.
