Hmm.  Obviously penalty, but not convinced about the red.  It isn't automatically a red because you give a penalty away when not a 'genuine challenge' so surely Forsyth's proximity to the ball (insofar as he took it off the striker's foot) is surely a material consideration?  Oh well, academic now.

Red cards aren't judged on whether there is an attempt to play the ball. He was sent off for being the last man when he wasn't.

They are though? If is a genuine attempt to play the ball, is only a penalty and a yellow. If no attempt at the ball is a penalty and a red.

“Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off."

Its a red.

Not sure the ref had a great view...looked to me like the pull started outside the box in which case it was a red but no penalty..

Academic in terms of the game but maybe mitigation to appeal and have it overturned?

But was it an obvious goal scoring opportunity? Forsyth could have got a block in
