Me and a mate went on the train. It got a bit lively at the station and the old bill quickly tried round us all up to march us to the 'stadium'. I was only a teenager at the time, wearing a donkey jacket as it was damn cold, but every trip was a great away day back then. Remember being on the shoulders of some random bloke after the third went in. I felt on top of the world. Crewton
York was a great day out. Tetley's all day (well, 11.30 - 14.30, 18.00 - 21.30) and gin and tonics all the way back to Kings X because that's all the buffet bar had left. Hic! ? Loved the randomness of the BR buffet bars, stuff you'd never dream of drinking normally was suddenly alright if thats all they had! SamUltraRam
Looking at the 1985/86 fixtures, it was obviously a very harsh Winter as we had 4 league games postponed due to snow or ice plus 3 league games rearranged due to our continued success in the FA Cup. And there were a few games still played on pitches that were borderline postponements The fixture demands definitely impacted on our points return later in the season - at one point in April, we had to play 3 home games in 5 days, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday plus we eventually played 3 games at the end of the season when most teams in our league had already finished. SamUltraRam
In 1985/86 game 26 was a crazy last minute 1-0 defeat at Chesterfield. This was our first away defeat since the first away game at Wigan in August. For anyone who went to the game, you'll remember how bad the Saltergate pitch was, it made the Baseball Ground pitch look like a carpet. This defeat left us on 50 points, just 3 ahead of our current total. In 1984/85, game 26 was a 0-0 away draw at Lincoln City, a game most memorable for the battles with Lincoln fans. The draw put us on 39 points, 8 points behind our current total. JJs dms and jono

SamUltraRam
In 1985/86, FA Cup Round 4 was a 1-0 away win at Sheffield United thanks to a Rob Hindmarch goal In those days, every team played their strongest 11 in the FA Cup, it meant so much to even the giants of the game Sheff Utd were in the top 6 of the old 2nd Division and contained our ex-goalkeeper John Burridge ( another of our ex players who allegedly escaped through a changing room window ) Derby fans numbered 9,000 out of a crowd of 22,000. The following season we took 10,000 to Bramall Lane in a win that pushed us very close to our second automatic promotion in two seasons Edited January 28, 2023 by SamUltraRam LeedsCityRam and Carl Sagan

Wistaston Ram
One of my favourite away days. Back in the days when you could just turn up on the day, remember an article in The DET encouraging Derby fans to travel to Bramall Lane and we certainly did in great numbers. Absolutely packed in the terrace behind the goal and i recall hugging a random bloke when we scored, the same level of joy as at PV the other night! uttoxram75 and GangwayD 1

SamUltraRam
In 1985/86 game 28 was a 3 - 0 away win at Notts County and according to the match report more than 9,000 of the 13,086 crowd were Derby fans The win took us to 56 points, still 3 ahead of our current total. Also, we were in 4th position but had up to 6 games in hand on the teams above us In 1984/85 game 28 was a midweek 3 - 0 away defeat at Bristol City keeping us on 40 points, 13 behind our current total Wistaston Ram, IslandExile and LeedsCityRam

Stood on the open terrace behind the goal, there was a feeling of promotion in the early spring air with many fans waving flags. It was great to witness all three goals going in at our end and I cannot remember an away game where we made up such a large proportion of the crowd, about 70%. Fantastic game and fantastic atmosphere. I remember a group of about 8 Forest fans to the left of us giving it the big'un until we scored. Behind the goal and nearly all of the two seated stands erupted, and the Forest fans visibly shrunk at the sight. I can easily believe that there were 9000 or more of us there that day.
