One year on from the Chorley Game...

One year on from the kids being played in the Covid Cup and it's interesting to see that three of that scratch team are now first team 'semi-regulars'.

Dylan Williams and Liam Thompson started that game and Festy came on a sub. A few others have been in and around the squad this season too.

And that was out third or fourth strength team back then if I remember correctly?

Every cloud, and all that...

We only had to play Chorley last year because we were on TV, and on the same weekend 2 or 3 games were off( not on tv ) because of Covid. The rules may have changed this year with play if you have 14 fit players and also there are no replays, drawn games decided by penalties.

Surely the EFL wouldn't change the rules after we've been forced to do something?  No, of course not........?

Didn't we keep our commitment to Chorley, they needed the tv money. Turns out we needed it more.

At the time generous Mel !!! said that they could keep Derby's 25% of the TV money, for Chorley were in a financial mess. however if Derby did not play the game they would have been kicked out of the FA cup, thats why we had all the problems later with the EFL over the kids playing in that game, thought the EFL treated Derby dispicable over our fullfiling that game for TV.

Cash strapped Chorley pulled out all the stops to get a giant tent in to keep their pitch from freezing. They even had the nerve to come on here and get us to help fund it with virtual tickets just to make sure they played our under 18s.

There is now way they’d have spent that money if they were up against our first team. They’d have just let their pitch freeze and played another day.

They took full advantage.

Not to be the one to defend the EFL on here but would it not be down to the FA that we had to play that game as it’s their competition, not the EFL’s?

I don’t know the situation fully, just guessing.

Anyway, glad some of the lads playing that day are coming through in to the first team!

Quite right. The clue is in the name FA Cup.

The big boys and clubs not on the EFL naughty step will get special treatment.

In the face of the nonsensical claims by the Smoggy Tw@. We too should sue the FA if others are allowed to call off their matches due to COVID.

Based upon the same logic…. because they made us play the youth team

1/ we then lost out on revenue from a cup run

2/ (and in true Gibson denial standard) we were destined to win the FA Cup last year

3/ (As we would’ve won the FA Cup last season) the FA took that away from us and the chance to play in the UEFA Europa League this season.

4/ (we would’ve won the win a Europa League too this season) Thus sending us to the Champions lLeague next season

5/ Having then won the Champions League too, we qualify again the season after

So by my reckoning and based upon Middlesbrough and Wycombe calculations the FA will owe us something in the region of….

Don't forget having to play Bobby Duncan  in that game before he was ready.  The psychological trauma of realising he probably wouldn't get in Chorleys team potentially cost us the 30 goal striker he would have turned into this season. We've lost 25 million in transfer revenue, guaranteed promotion worth 45 million and 8 million a year in lost revenue if we get relegated, plus additional sponsorship.    That's another 120 million rounded up as we definitely wouldn't have got relegated either.
