I hate bringing this up because it scares me to death thinking of it. But I remember it being mentioned that if liquidation happened it's possible we could start again in league 2.

Now if that is true (I'm not saying it is) but if so, isn't it much cheaper to let us die off then buy the assets in liquidation and start the club again. Paying a reported 28 mil and then whatever Mel wants for the stadium each seems expensive for a club that could end up in league 2 anyway If a rebuild next year isn't handled very well and wr get the 15 point penalty.

It feels like the club is losing value everyday and if you have no emotional attachment to the club then it's cheaper to start again. Still rent the stadium from Mel and build from scratch .

I hate it, but it scares me that might have crossed a certain Mr Ashley's mind and having worked around him when I was younger I wouldn't put it past him. I hope he is more empathetic than when I worked with him ?

I don’t think there is any guarantee a Phoenix club would be allowed to start in league 2

The problem comes in the summer though when Lawrence, Ebosele etc leave and the new owner needs to build up the playing squad under a strict business plan.

We'd effectively be doing most of our business under a strict business plan in the summer by default anyway due to the amount of players we need in - most would have to be freebies or very astute purchases.

I wouldn't blame Ashley for trying to get the club as cheap as he can, regardless of what that means to our league status. I would be confident he would get us back where we belong.

I know, I did mention that I'm not sure if it's true but maybe Ashley thinks he can swing it. His ruthlessness and ability to not care a jot what anyone including fans think of him is quite incredible.

But paying 20+ mil for a club with 6 players on the books, no stadium, that's probably dropping a league, will probably get a 15 point deduction in that league and be forced to work under another embargo or very strict business plan seems like a bad investment. Our history means mostly nothing to anyone that's not a fan. I mean just YouTube us and just about everyone under 35 just knows us as the worst prem team ever. A phoenix club if it started in league 2 would still attract good attendances for that league and over time could build back. Everyone loves a winner they say lol.

I hope to whatever footballing gods there are that I am wrong and I am just freaking myself out after another day of disapointing news, I just find it hard trust anyone involved in this admin process at all, no matter what side they are on.

i think people are living in a fairytale land if they think they will allow this to happen.

if that's the standard they go setting forward league 2 teams will just all clear their debts and go into liquidation.

I 'heard' it's not Ashley screwing down a deal, his bid is in. The new spanner in the works was a last minute bid by Dell (msd) l. Would make sense as they are the major creditor with money already in he club and the stadium.

V interesting if true. If true, I assume the negotiation is now on what cash they need to pay of the minimum viable debt, whether that results in 0 or -15 points next season, and whether they get the stadium for no cost - would raise the question as to whether Morris would allow this. He'd walk away with absolutely nothing, which in my mind is how it should be.

Pure conjecture obviously but makes sense as to why its taking time to agree to the particulars.

A phoenix club would start at the bottom of the pyramid (as per AFC Bury). However, if still in essence the original club, they'll be placed at a suitable level.

If Man Utd went into liquidation, which league do you think they'd start in?

If a L2 side goes into liquidation, they'll start in the National League, most likely one of the North/South ones.

In Bury's case (the real one, not the phoenix club) next season they'll be in NL North or the tier below due to missing a season. They were in L1 in 19/20. Would have been in L2 in 20/21, NL in 21/22, so NL North would be the likely league in 22/23.

L2 for Derby in the circumstances presented is more than fair.

Servco FC, you may know them a Glasgow Rangers are a club that started in the 4th league of the Scottish pyramid after the old club Glasgow Rangers went into liquidation in 2012. Most people believed they would win back to back to back promations but that didn't happen. Also as far as Im concerned a phoenix club is in no way the original club hence the phoenix club has no history and no trophies to its name.

Even if it were true I don’t think anyone in their right minds would believe league 2 teams could go into liquidation, reform, and remain in L2.

I don’t know what criteria they use (in Macclesfield’s case for example) but I assume the principle is that the Phoenix club has to rejoin the pyramid at a much lower level.

Bury are a more relevant case than Ramgers as they're surprisingly part of the same FA as Derby, whilst Rangers are not.

Bury AFC (phoenix club) started at the bottom.

Bury FC (new company but bought club name, stadium, history, etc) will rejoin the football pyramid in National League North or the tier below because they are the 'original' club.

There are at least 100,000 Rangers fans who don't share your opinion. Same fans, same ground, same trophy cabinet, just different owners. Duck the SFL ring a bell?

Well explained GoC. Also worth mentioning Rangers were part of a massive tax dodge. not just that they couldn't pay the tax bill, they had tried an elaborate scheme to avoid tax which failed. So much more of a moral hazard to let them off lightly.
