I think few have come out of this with any credit but we are at fault as a club mainly because of the nature of MMs stewardship.

It’s easy in retrospect to say this but Mel was a fan’s favorite for a long time and Derby had exciting times at Wembley.

All of a sudden to some the EFL are saints and Mel is a demon .

I don’t buy it.

Please don’t forget Mel owns the ground .

Have we got a new scapegoat for our plight??? It’s all the EFL’s fault, it’s all Gibsons fault. It appears it may soon be Ed Dawes fault. At what stage does the penny drop that we are reaping what we have sown. I for one actually feel relief at today’s announcement. We are now free for a new owner to come in with a bid, knowing we will be a league 1 club with all our skeletons out of the closet. One step back now but 2 steps forward over the coming years I believe. And just to let the young uns know. The last time we were in division 3 was great. We stormed it with a massive support home and away. It’s not all doom and gloom

Ok that’s what you think and that you prerogative.

And then being relegated back, like Bournemouth, our opponents on Sunday. Did they exceed FFP in the Championship? Have they been sanctioned? Genuine question.

I seem to remember they did but if you go up and come down I think it gets null and void allegedly due to parachute payments not being in the equation

I really don’t .

I have always said FFP is ridiculous and maintain that. .

We are in this mess because off FFP and Mel getting totally blitzed by the EFL with no way out .

Mel couldn’t sell the club and then we had Covid and no revenue

It has been vindictive against him IMO .

Other clubs have piled in also.

The most significant thing for me is that the first hearing went in our favour.

Its all done now but going forward my love for football has somewhat gone .

I know this is a view that lots of Derby Fans won’t agree with but going forward I see nothing but more heartache ahead with player sales etc

Couldn't disagree more. Mel's utter mismanagement and abandonment of the club have left us in this place, it's not just the EFL's actions. You may think FFP is ridiculous but they are the rules and they have been known about for a long time. Up until last year as shown by the al Jazeera doc he was still asking for 50 million for the club without the stadium and 100 million with it. This is hardly the actions of a man who was desperate to sell but rather someone who wanted to get his money back. He's screwed the club, screwed the fans, screwed the staff and he's walked away with some people still kissing his backside.

That's like saying I think the theory of gravity is ridiculous before you jump off a cliff

That’s you view and that’s fair enough .

I think the whole system is to blame. We have broken the rules which we have been punished for, but when clubs are coming down from the PL with parachute payments for 3 years then surely that is an unfair advantage over the rest of the clubs who haven’t got such payments.

The system favours a few.
Is the current system fair?

Something needs to change.

Let's hope so.

I'm hoping today's announcement is part of a smooth takeover, rather than the admins taking the decision off their own back.

There you have it .

Ed Dawes has just said in a last comment  it’s not the EFLs fault it’s the football club who have done wrong .

I totally disagree with him .

Glad to hear the BBC has continued its tradition of impartiality and accuracy.

So who has been trying to deduct points from us for the last two years and only succeeded in the end by blackmailing us when we are under threat of extinction? And they have done no wrong?

When you say "stormed it" I presume you mean the support only.

I seem to recall getting p!ss wet through on the popside as Trevor Christie scored an ill deserved penalty V Rotherham to sneak us into third place....

Was a clear penalty for pushing in the wall for the freekick.

Who says we don't get dodgy penalty ?

It’s not so much that Ed Dawes is wrong. We ‘broke the rules’ so no matter how stupid the rules, how corrupt the system (see QPR, Villa, parachute payments in general) or how unfit an organisation the EFL is, we did deserve to be punished under the current regime.

What irks is the smug, self satisfied, arrogant and sneering tone that exudes from every utterance the man makes (even in a simple tweet). He reminds me of a certain gentleman on here who at least used to reside in Mexico.

FFP is an outdated concept now for the reasons stated. The yoyo of Norwich, Watford etc show this. The only true financial constraint would be to put a worldwide cap on transfer funds and wages, but that’s never going to happen.

Either we make it no limit and if owners go crazy chasing the dollar then it’s a gamble clubs and fans have to accept or they keep with the FFP rules. Or some smart arse comes up with another plan but that’s out of my limits.

Sad times.
