Apologies for that rant.  We have players with flair.  They seem to be afraid of showing it sometimes.

A difficult game that we needed to try and win but we needed to not get beaten soundly. Not always easy to show your most expansive football.

Waghorn was pants today.

I know but he was still closest to scoring. I’m afraid it’s just that he’s the only physical presence we have and he just might score a free kick.

We won’t get options til January.

Would still love JHI and Stratton tried together with Jozwiak. The latter needs quicker players round him. But we won’t try that because we lack imagination.

We might have have had an awful season to date, but we weren’t awful today. We controlled much of the game, but had insufficient quality again in the final third. Deserved a draw in my opinion.

Rooney/Rosenior taking pelters even though a good number of our players today were away last week on international duty. No real chance as yet to get everyone together, to significantly change our approach.  I thought however we did try to mix it up today a bit more than of late, but regrettably Waghorn, Lawrence and Holmes all had poor games. Good to see Bird back, looked quality I thought.

Fair enough, I'm not looking for a fight. ?

I'd not lose any sleep if we shipped-out both Lawrence and Waghorn. I prefer Marriott.

No.

It wasn't massive improvement. All the results of our labour were exactly the same. And I never believe Lawrence will do anything. It surprises me when he does. Much in the same way I'm surprised by a good first touch from Waghorn or Andre Wisdom jumping.

But I thought the width of the team and the way we opened Bristol up was promising. But the way we went at them when they were stretched was hopelessly bad.

I was surprised at the 2v1's on the wing. Thats new. And I was impressed that if Bristol pushed out to defend the flanks that there was a pass straight down their throat.

But that's it. It felt like no cross was ever going to be decent and that as usual players would try to be too greedy/clever

I did think Waghorn would score when it opened up for him.

But the attitude was better. I can roll with that.

Never seen crossing like it. ducking embarrassing

This is about right in many ways.

I agree with roy mac that we looked better,we were more determined, stretched the opposition more but ultimately we were utterly hopeless with those inept crosses and we simply have no striker capable of having the intelligence and forethought to be in the right place at the right time.....we need that number 9 desperately.

But I really don't know how we are going to start scoring goals without a new striker,i really don't.

We need a manager who can see these faults and problems and knows how to mitigate and solve them quickly.

This is a frightening example of how a great club can enter into a massive, irrecoverable spin out of control and out of the division,if it's not taken hold of.

I think we might try it but chose when. It could be tough on Trialist and Stretton if it went badly wrong. Thought Trialist at least staked a chance at 25 minutes next game.

The defence was so out of position for there go school boys would do better he's 18 yards out unmarked .

Proper old school manager required with urgency.

Once Buchanan was drawn out of position and beat we were so vulnerable, but Bristol were waiting for this all 2nd half.  You have to admire this tactic.  They did their homework.

Do you mean the players brought on or off?  I thought Whittaker looks bright and JHI is a 'box' player, always looking to make a run.

More that they were made too late. Should’ve changed things around the hour mark.

Personally I would’ve hooked Holmes at half time and put Sibley on. So many moves broke down via him. Seems totally shot of confidence. Thank Christ for him there aren’t crowds at the moment

Or Duncan as well, it can’t be any worse than our current attacking options

"Chrissy Martin, Bristol's number 7" - doesn't quite work, does it? A bit like our front line.

There was a fair bit to be encouraged by today, as we were much more positive coming out from the back, and Max Bird added something we haven't had since .......... he last played. Well, a few weeks before that actually, because Cocu had got to him and made him far too cautious. He played some great through balls as well, and several times we were inches through from breaking through.

Sadly we were let down by Homes final ball - he did some great work, but threw it all away because when he did get the ball to a Derby man, it was behind him and forcing him to break his stride, or turn back. Tom Lawrence's crosses were poor all game as well, and near the end had a great chance to play Buchanan but decided it was an easier option to take on 6 defenders in the penalty box. D'ohh!! And then when we did get the ball into a good position in the box, there was no-one there to take advantage, because no-one was willing to take a chance and run on into the box in case the ball got there. And right at the end Matt Clarke had a go at Waggy, who seemed to spend most of the match going to the far post when the ball was put into the centre, and dawdling towards the penalty spot when the ball was heading for the far post.

I wonder if international duties are the reason we didn't see Josciak, and I wondered why we didn't see Sibley starting. We do have options to change it up a bit, starting with the strikers - we have some straining at the leash, and maybe they should get a look in, because they can probably remember what it is like to burst into the box in the hope that the ball might get there.

Rams TV  had the Bristol goal sussed - they noted Martin's usual hard work pulling the defenders out of position and making space for the runners, but we kept him fairly quiet in the most part. But then he was substituted by Bejesus who was really quick, and he scored before we had realised. It was one of the few times the cut us open and got a shot on goal, maybe the only time.

Sadly, depite their lofty position in the League, Bristol were yet another team there for the taking, but we both showed them the escape hatch, and escorted them to the safe house. However, we can't expect all the failings of the last few months to be put right during one international break. Apart from the goal, the defence looked pretty sound, and our progress out of defence was more upbeat. Next we have to give the forwards minds a "defrag" to get rid of the Cocu mentality of  "I'd better hold back from the box in case the other team get the ball and counter attack".

Sadly, I have no idea what the future holds for us. I wish I did. Here's hoping.

We were ‘a little’ better than under Cocu, the problem we have is that we need to be significantly better to make a move off the bottom of the table.

Too many bang average players and not enough giving their best.

Sadly I feel that the coaching team needs to go so we get some fresh eyes on the whole thing.

Our striking and forward department is woefully lacking.
Lacking in ability, lacking in creativity, lacking in team work, lacking in the ability to look up and find a team mate and sadly lacking in effort too many times.

While that continues and we continue to concede at least a goal a game we are done for.

I agree, but Bristol didn’t really look very offensive did they? I don’t think we were in any danger of being soundly beaten.
when I see Buchanan get the ball with acres of space in front of him, to just hold it and pass it sideways, I do wonder.  See his run for his assist on international duty? That’s what we need out of  a few players we have that are capable of doing this.
