On paper he does seem like the missing piece in that defensive midfield. Big, strong, combative, good passer of the ball, looks to break forward. Really looking forward to having him back.

If this team can settle we have some really good options available in the squad. It may mean some of the youngsters are rotated more (not necessarily a bad thing) but bringing Sibley, Knight or Whittaker on for the last 20 could really allow us to go for teams a bit more than we do now. Takes the pressure off as well.

we've got some really good ball players. Given a bit of time I think we could see some very good football played this season.

Marshall

Byrne, Evans, MTW (or Davies), Clarke, Buchanan.

Bielik, Bird.

Jozwiak, Lawrence, Ibe.

Waghorn.

With Knight, Sibley, Whitaker, Rooney, Forsyth, Marriott, Wisdom, Shinnie all to be rotated. Horses for courses.

Greeat news. I wouldn't expect him in the first 11 for a few weeks yet. He's probably some way off in terms of fitness and the last thing we want is for him to bust his knee again and become George Thorne Mk II.

Yes the club must do their utmost to protect him from thugs breaking his legs.

Great to see the big man back. Didn’t get to see enough of him last season, but he definitely has the potential at least to become one of the best defensive midfielders in the division. Can’t wait to have him back in that midfield 2. Hopefully will only be a matter of weeks now if we can get him a few U23 games to build his fitness.

Good thing about this season seems to be all clubs are playing tactically and generally the games seem slower than before. Bielik seemed to be at his weakest running back towards goal on fast breaks and was making some bad challenges.

Keep the ball in front of him and he'll be as useful in attack as in defense.

Don't think we saw the best of him previously but a lot of that had to do with the team as it was & him getting up to speed after an initial injury saw him miss the start of last season. He played CB for a few games to start with but wasn't entirely convincing.

Bileik came into the centre of the park at a time when we had virtually no control of midfield - the absolute nadir being last Christmas. He was often caught trying to stem the opposition tide, sometimes resulting in rash challenges. Remember Wigan away on Boxing Day where he was lucky not to get sent off but the team looked utterly lost for much of that game & were fortunate to escape with a point.

A year later & a lot of those issues have been addressed & the prospect of him forming a midfield 3 with Bird & Knight/Holmes or as a sitting 2 alongside Bird sounds very exciting indeed.

There was also some disquiet about comments he made a year ago about wanting to play in the Prem as soon as possible & people construing that as a slight on Derby. Think we can see with the role he played in convincing Jozwiak to join that his commitment is here.

New tactic to start with 12?

I don't think we ever really saw a fully fit Bielik before his injury, but he showed flashes of being a really promising player. I remember Cocu saying that he was playing him at CB last season to build up his fitness and match sharpness so I think that is what we might get for the first few weeks of his reintroduction. A back three with him, Davis, and Clarke could be really good for the upcoming games. Then Wisdom comes into the three man back line, or replaces Davis as we swap back to a four, when Bielik is fit enough to play in the centre.

Pleased that Bielik be available soon.

If we don't get proper number 9 in, he will slot next to Bird and Rooney will take the striker's position. It doesn't sound optimal, but I assume it's the best we can do right now. Save some money for the future and sign that Turkish fella cheaply in January or free next summer.

And whatever we might think of his current ability, Rooney will play pretty much every game at least until January anyway.
