Yay, gratz to all the English teams in the final - not as exciting as the past few nights but having all four finalists is and huge achievement.

Just wondering why away goals still count as double in extra time though?  Seems a little unfair to me that the away team gets essentially 30 mins extra of 2 for 1 - that far outweighs the benefit of the home team getting the extra time in their own stadium imo.

Chelsea's game into extra time. If it goes to pens, will that make the Germans favourites to go through and stopping the clean sweep of English clubs in the two Euro finals.

Just noticed Chelsea have only one Englishmen on the pitch so as long as Barkley doesn't have to take a pen, they chould still win if it goes to pens

History made, never happened before.

Arguably English Premier league, despite its intense competitiveness, is the strongest league in the world and this goes some way to proving it - even if the top teams have too little home grown talent for many people’s liking.

Well, a couple of days ago I thought that English representation in European finals would amount to possibly one team at best.

what do I know?

Going to be a good month of football to watch: Derby in the playoffs, all-English CL final, all-English EL final, then England in the Nations League finals. Out with a bang before the summer drought.

Liverpool deserved that win for once. Actually wasn’t that fussed they won in the end after the antics of Suarez. The guy is a disgusting vile cheat. All 4 English teams deserve it. The premier league is the undisputed best league again like in the 2000s

It’s probably because if it’s intense competitiveness. If you’re in the french league, where most weeks you’re playing pub teams, how does that prepare you for the big games. In the prem, there really aren’t many easy games at all, you’ve really got to fight for every point.

Premier league was the best before when Sir ALEx Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger and Benitez were at their peaks. When they started to decline as managers or left the league, Spain started to take over as the best league for about 7 years when Guardiola, Mourinho and Simeone , were competing. Now the best managers are back in the premier league, like Guardiola, Pochettino and Klopp, we are seeing a shift in the premier league becoming the best league again. Still way off Spanish clubs’ consistency in Europe over a period of time, but it could be a start of dominance. Very, very impressive to see 4 English teams in two finals. These things always go in cycles. Italy was the best league in the late 80s 90s and early 2000s, then the premier league took over as the best from around 2004 till around 2011 from when Spain started to take over till 2018. No coincidence that the leagues improved when the best managers are there.

Until the metamorphosis of the European Cup into the Champions League, countries had one (rarely two) representative in the main competition. There were quite a few occasions where the finalists in the UEFA Cup were from the same country. I think that there have been 7 prior occasions where 3 of the finalists came from the same country

Agree about the best managers = better success in Europe, but they tend to follow the £. The cycles you mention are all linked with money flowing into those leagues.

The English clubs have massively under performed in the last 10 years, but look to be on the right track now.

However, domestically, does it do anything for the English game? There was a report out last week that said below the Premier league the English game is in its worst state financially. I think the  number of clubs in "distress" (a measure of clubs in serious financial trouble) had gone up from 4 to 6, a record high.

Just wondering if the BBC intend to ask every fan that is going tonight how long their journey took and whether they have a ticket? There must actually be some other point of discussion?

Obviously not one Liverpool fan will be there without a ticket...surely...they wouldn’t would they not after the disasters that have happened to their honorable club that definitely 100% for sure  wasn’t caused by thousands of fans being drunk and having no tickets..

come on you Spurs..
