They can't sell draught beer as they don't have a toilet. This also limits how long you would stay there. The drinking area is tiny. Any more than 5 people in their drinking or shopping and you are bumping into each other. The door is left open next to a very busy road. The beer is very expensive. They try to sell Belgium/European beer without the product knowledge for this specialist market. Their opening hours are that of a shop not a bar. Their is never anyone in when i go past. Thanks for the comments. As I say I've not been but it's interesting to hear why it may not work in some ways. Will pass on the feedback! I can only comment to a degree because my favourite beer (at the old age of 27) is draught Bass with no head lol. The European beers I have tried and liked (such as La Choufe, Leffe and Ename) do seem to retail and stupid prices here though. McRainy

I fully understand your dischuffedness at the price of what are sometimes very ordinary Belgian beers in this country (the common ones seem to be Vedett and Leffe, and both are ok as an 'emergency beer' but no more than that). Most large supermarkets sell Duvel, which is more than ok - it's very nice indeed, and was my 'introduction to Belgium'. It's also reasonably priced there - I think that Tescos sometimes have it at 3 bottles for a fiver. The big Tesco stores also stock Delirium Blonde at £2.50 a bottle which is also pretty nice. You really are much better off importing your beer though. Beers that would cost you £6.50 to £7.50 a pop in the pub can be yours for a third of that - the down side of that though is that you need to be spending about £100. That would have been £85-90 a couple of years ago before THAT vote clobbered the exchange rate, because the beers at belgiuminabox (the website I always use - just google it) are priced in Euros (they are based in Antwerp). I usually buy a full case of something, then start adding single bottles (usually about 19 or 20) until it clicks over to the next delivery charge rate, then I back out the last one so I am getting the maximum number of bottles for that delivery charge. Basically it's about €13 for around 35 Kg - they use DPD and delivery is usually pretty quick (between 3 and 5 days normally). The packaging is an art form in itself - almost nuclear bomb-proof, but be sure to unpack where you have access to a vacuum cleaner if you go down the 'full crate' route. The beers are wedged in using expanded polystyrene, and no matter how careful you are, you will be finding bits for weeks. Pay using your debit card. It costs about €5 more to use Paypal. uttoxram75
Couple of pints of Timothy Taylor's Landlord next to a log fire in the Bulls Head, Alton with family (daughters birthday). Pleasant. Boycie
McRainy
No Burton Bridge in the Royal Oak tonight, so went for Timmy Taylor's 1858. Forget all the fine dining balls, it's a decent brown ale at 5.3%. https://www.timothytaylor.co.uk/beer/1858/
eddie
A couple of days ago, we had a pint in the Lord Derby (well, you would, wouldn't you?) in St Anne's (the Lytham variety, not the Shottinhgam one). Abbot. The worst pint I have ever had - it stunk. Not a good advert for cleaning pipes.
