Most fans understand the difficulties Warne is facing. Perhaps if he appears to be able to compromise his preferred style of play to get the best out of the current squad then he'd be getting more sympathy? But it currently doesn't look that way, lots of players playing in positions they either don't know or don't want to play.

I agree that a back 4 seems the way forward as it stands. But maybe 5 at the back is what Warne is comfortable with?

I guess it all depends on what Clowes thinks is an acceptable final league position? If promotion isn’t a necessity then I think a lot of fans are going to be irked at how we set up.

Plus on paper our squad is decent but the more I look at it the more I think the plethora of over 30’s are flattering to deceive. Think best we can hope for is a lot of smart recruiting and poaching of Rotherham players in the summer e.g. Barlaser. Then judge him from there.

Despite loving the possession football under Mac (1&2) I found roseniors (you know, that temporary stand in manager we had) football utterly tedious.

He somehow managed to make passing football look like a boring and goalless pastime when we know it doesn't have to be.

Thanks for your time Liam but I'm glad we moved on (well some of us have).

Exactly this. If Warne fails then maybe we need to find a manager that plays 'good' football but not at snails pace. Ultimately i'm not precious about styles only about winning but it would appear a lot on this forum are bothered about styles and therefore have their knives out already.

  3. I think the Warne interrogators are split in to two camps: Rosenior got pooed on and I don't like it club and we've appointed a 3x league 1 promotion expert #announcepromotion oh wait the style isn't great and we're not getting automatic success club.

I'm no interrogator but I'm certainly more option 2, but I'm starting realise how thin the squad is and how much the lack of 24-30 year old players is killing us. Warne needs time and backing from all but sadly the fans discontent is already stirring the pot.

  4. Warne was supposed to be the clean slate from the last few years of hardship, however its looking like some people won't be happy until he's gone so the next comparisons will be Warne v the new guy and therefore the new guy will get all the goodwill in the world.

As David says Rosenior is gone and to be honest, other than him being a nice guy I really don't see what the fuss about him is for. I mean it wasn't like we were swatting teams left, right and centre. In fact to his credit he make playing at home easy, a skill i did underestimate when i suggested we should replace him. But other than that i'm struggling.

At the moment it seems like a good portion of the fanbase have already made their mind up and like a rotten apple this will only spread with every match we don't win.

Really hope Warne can turn it around because if he does go, god knows who we'll bring in as most of the 'good' football playing managers have been snapped up.

  5. 3-5-2 does need binning off for now.

For LWB we have: Forsyth (too slow), Roberts (Too defensive), Barkhuizen (Too attacking), Sibley (Too attacking)

For RWB we have: NML (Too attacking), Smith (could work), Knight (could work but he's one of our better central midfielders, Odurah (Too inexperienced).

As soon as we go to 4 at the back we have genuine leftback options and okyish rightback options. I like Warne and maybe he feels like his teams can't do what he wants with a back 4 but for the sake of between now and January I think he needs to adapt.

  6. I wouldn't say I was Rosenior out, but his style of football, our away form and the need for a clean break was welcomed by me. Warne wasn't even on my radar as a potential replacement however i was excited when we manged to pull it off.

I'm nowhere near getting on PW back yet as I think it's a little pointless seeing as he's signed a 4 year contract. However, it does look like he's shaken a few heads and a few dummies have been spat out. From what football i've seen so far under him i'd say; Hourihane, McGoldrick and NML are far from satisfied with his tactics or man management.

Hopefully we can muddle on through til Jan and then maybe some creative transfer business can help us get enough bodies in the building that suits PW style of play.

It does feel all a bit meh at the moment though, and performances like the last 3 aren't doing the mood any favours. If we don't win on saturday then the pressure will only mount.

Pearson was a good appointment on paper but ended up being sacked due to our form nosediving, i'm hoping history doesn't repeat itself.

  7. Nobody other than those within the club have a clue what we can or can't do. However, my very weak understanding is that if we did receive funds from player sales then we may be able to invest those back into the squad but we'd have to charm the EFL in to agreeing a set percentage.

Ultimately i think we'll see a couple more loans and maybe a Bielik return. Knight unfortunately will probably leave at the end of the season for nowt. Cheers Mel.

  8. I'm finding all this stewards enquiry into Warne a bit unfair.

Have the club treated golden boy Rosenior unfair? Arguably so, but without being harsh we support Derby County not Liam Rosenior and nowadays its common practice for managers to be sounded out whilst the seat is still hot. Whether its morally correct or not is irrelevant, get with the times or get left behind.

If we'd not gone with LR at the start of the season by the time Warne was sounded out and sold the project we'd no doubt have been touching the first match of the season. We were desperate and needed signings in asap. We couldn't really afford to lose out on 5/6 signings over us doing the right thing by LR.

Whether Warne will do any better this season than LR is still up for debate but the man with the money has made his decision and the more the LR loveboys call for Warne's head every time there's a bump in the road the more negativity this will bring. A 4 year deal has been signed so whether people like Warne or not he's here to stay. Unless of course our form completely nosedives.

Let's see where we are in January and then again at the end of the season, I'd say by Jan 2024 we'd have enough information to either back PW or call for his head.

Just find it weird how much a manager is being scrutinised so early into his reign after an average (not bad) start.

  9. When he signed I was a little underwhelmed, purely on the basis that he never managed to hold down the #1 shirt at Wednesday. However, so far i'd say he's been pretty solid.

I don't think he's made many wonder saves ie Carson during the Rowett season but he's certainly not dropped any clangers Roos cough Roos. So he gets the thumbs up from me.

Did you hear the conversation between the lino and the ref?  Or are you guessing ?

Well if the lino thought it was stonewall he would've flagged straight away and same for the ref. What's there to discuss? It wasn't like there was another Port Vale player in the mix that might have clashed with his own player or another Derby player that might have committed an offence.

Secondly who's the lino? Rosie Jones?

  11. This topic comes up every season without fail.

Half the forum is never that fussed and see the ballboys as a nice experience for local kids to have.

The other half including me think we should get ballboys that understand the game and aren't scared to incorporate poohouse tactics to help us get the result.

Either way Derby as a club seem to promote option 1 as their preferred way of looking at things so no point focussing too much energy on this topic.

I imagine this topic will raise its head again next season, so see you then.

  12. 1st peno - Its irrelevant whether it was or not, the ref couldn't see and the lino took far too long to decide. Which i'm interpreting as that he's guessed.

2nd peno - Correct decision and the most stonewall of the lot.

Red card - I've seen the video about 50 times and still can't decide what the right decision is. Although as others have said it would appear that Collins was hauled to the ground by the defender.

My personal opinion with the red is that it wasn't clear either way and apart from the 2 PV defenders and Collins nobody on the pitch seemed to acknowledge it so could the ref have turned a blind eye and let the match carry on even stevens at 1-1? I say this as whether its right or not home teams/bigger teams tend to get the decisions when its a 50/50 shout. For the ref to go out of his way and go against the home/bigger team on two occasions is mind boggling to me.

Anyway, lets hope McGoldrick is fit because Osula looks very much a work in progress.

  13. Think I'm in the minority here, if the match was a nations league game or qualifiers then Derby would get the nod but as its the world cup I've got to go for England. Although I acknowledge that I probably wouldn't be at pride park even if there wasn't a clash. I'd most probably be taking a vacation to Tokyo to watch the match via Rams tv.

Anyway if England don't top their group then they need burning at the stake so hopefully this scenario won't occur. However, if it does then the EFL needs to use some common sense and move our time/date.

  14. Something definitely happened behind the scenes to derail Wilder at Boro. The majority of his work last season looked good and it would appear promotion was a distinct possibility. However, it would seem that Wilder's head was turned with Burnley and like Stevie Mc with Newcastle this led to a drop off in form.

Whoever gets him next is very lucky in my opinion.

  15. I think sometimes people want the Hollywood ending and can't see past that. Of course us getting promoted and then to the prem and then winning the champions league whilst under LR was the dream, its a nice story.

However, we were the only team in the EFL not to score an away goal and every victory was only by a 1 goal margin. Did LR do a good job and was unfairly booted out? Arguably so, but the man with the money decided that Warne was a better way forward and only time will tell whether its a good decision or not.

But what i think can't be argued is that to an alien if they was to look at which option had the better chance of succeeding purely looking on paper then the answer would have to be Warne.

I'm sure LR will get a couple of chances as the main man at other clubs and if he does well, good for him and good for the posters on here that are adamant that he was the messiah. But the way some have queried Warne and defended LR with their lives is a little odd in my opinion. That said this is a forum which means others will have different opinions to mine, so as you were.

  16. In relation to the posters that have called for a calmer unveiling I believe us being in the social media era has poo pooed that. Clubs want engagement and fans buzz off behind the scenes content.

I mean Burnley had Bruce Forsyth and Yvette Fielding making cameos in their signing announcements this summer.

As for Warne himself, he can’t help who he is. If he is a bit nutty and unconventional then we knew that when we hired him.

Ultimately I think we can all agree that if we get the right results we’ll all be singing off the same hymn sheet.

  17. To be fair I don't think LR's reputation has particularly been damaged over him not getting the Derby job permanently. By all accounts he had the Blackpool job and then turned it down for us (or at least thats my understanding).

The calibre and division of his next job is a bit of a lottery. Depends how proud he is and how the stars align. To expand on this I mean I could easily see him getting a championship gig at a team like Wigan or Luton, but could also see him at a Exeter or MK Dons or if he wasn't fussed about League 2 maybe at a promotion contender like Swindon. He may even be happy to join a prem club as a first team coach.

Whichever way he goes his stock will be the highest its ever been.

  18. Think this has definitely been the case over the last couple of years but that probably stems from having a very young team and having nice men in Cocu/Rosenior in charge and a managerial novice in Rooney.

I have no issues with us performing the dark arts to get results. The amount of times we've been on the ropes especially last season and i was crying out for someone to go up for a header and then drop to the floor to take the sting out of the match, but it never happened.

Think Warne has the perfect balance of being a genuinely nice man but happy to poohouse and use every trick in the book to get the win.
