  1. Forest have taken a gamble and it looks to have paid off. The only thing that can be said is that at some point they’ll go down again as they’re not one of the top 6/7 clubs.

But as soon as Jon Moss decided to turn in to Stevie Wonder and miss Huddersfield’s two penalties Forest were laughing. Even if they’d not gone on a spending spree and went down with 0 points they’d have the parachute payments to ensure they’re top 6 the season after.

They’ve got lucky and at the moment are rightly riding the crest of the wave. Just need Derby to find a few four leaf clovers.

  2. I like it. Although as I’m not a nerd and don’t work for a football club in an analysing capacity I never check the xG of any matches.

But I do recall when Brentford brought in Frank and after 8 or so matches their results were pony a few people wanted him gone. Apparently the xG and other underlying stats suggested they’d just been unlucky so stuck with him and look how that turned out.

Ultimately I don’t think you can hang all your hats on the xG stat. But I do think it gives a good indicator of how a team is performing.

  3. Not for me, I know Collins and McGoldrick are both over 30 but for me they both work hard with the added bonus that DM is a superb technician.

I think being a hard working striker is top of the attributes when it comes to playing in a Warne side.

If the choice is Martin or nobody then of course I’d take him for an extra body and the nostalgia. However, I would be pursuing all other options before coming to this conclusion.

  4. Footballs completely on its bum.

On one hand you have Bury, Scunthorpe and how we got fisted for *checking notes* spending an owners money to try and go up.

Then you have Chelsea spending £100m on an average to good prem player. Forest splashing the cash (good for them).

The problem is the top 6 don’t care about the other 90 odd clubs. The remaining 14 prem teams don’t care about the 70 odd other clubs. The championship clubs don’t care about anyone but themselves and so on.

People cry over the super league but that’s basically what we’ve got now exactly there’s no other countries involved.

  5. @Jourdanis bang on the money in this thread.

The moaning and groaning of the Warne appointment was embarrassing. Yes everyone’s entitled to an opinion but

    A. we wasn’t exactly ripping the league up under LR.
    B. Our away form continued to be depressing pre Warne.
    C. It wasn’t like we appointed Iain Dowie, this is a man who’s got promoted 3 times from this league.
    D. After being on the edge of extinction I think DC was allowed to bring his own man in. After all it’s his money.

Anyway now we’re on the up it’s better for everyone and long may it continue.

  6. Derby have been unbelievably unlucky with Bielik. First time since he’s signed that he’s not got injured after 10 matches and it’s whilst he’s on loan at brum.

Personally I’d have opened up and auction for him to see who is interested. Can only imagine he’s staying at brum because A. We’ll bring him back in to the loop next season if we get promoted. B. Nobody is that interested at paying a price we want.

After thought: maybe now it’s confirmed that any transfer money won’t make a damn difference to incomings there’s really no point in forcing him out?

I would hate to see us being Bielik back against his wishes, whilst he's a Derby County player, we have to respect him as a person as well.

We appear to have a happy camp, why potentially disrupt that by throwing a player into the mix that doesn't want to be here, nobody wins out of this situation.

From what we're led to believe it's not the club he has an issue with, just does not want to play in League 1, that's his call.

Personally I think when you make that kinda call, whilst players like Knight and Bird that are clearly not League 1 players get their heads down and get stuck in despite being down here is not any of their faults, how can you ever justify bringing him back in even if we go up?

Oh you want to be apart of this team now?...Nah. Sell him in the summer and wish him well.

Inclined to agree with you. I’d be surprised if we didn’t flutter him out to see if we attracted any decent bids now. Obviously not sure if getting him off the books would give us anymore leeway or not.

But agree no point bringing him back for the sake of it.

  8. Assuming he gets the boot before the end of the season I see Frank’s career going two ways: punditry or a job within the England set up (hoping to snake the top job after a few years with the u21’s.)

Always thought leaving us was a mistake but to be fair to him he’s managed Chelsea which I doubt he would’ve done if he had stayed with us. Clearly not tactically smart and with our finances being cut back he really did sneak off at the right time before he could be found out.

Liam Delap not exactly been knocking them in for them either.

Liam’s career so far has been rather uninspiring for saying how high his stock was when he was with us.

  10. Fair to say strengthening in January doesn’t guarantee you success. But I think we’re 2 players short at a minimum from having a healthy sized squad. So to see others getting bodies in early doors is a bit unsettling.

Can’t help but think Bielik holds the key to our strong we go. I’d be surprised to see him still at brum on loan come the end of the window.

  11. Just seen that Ipswich have signed Nathan Broadhead for £1.5m. I’m surprised he’s gone for such a little fee I was under the impression he was highly thought of.

Plymouth have made 5 signings and I’m pretty sure Bolton have added to their squad.

If Derbys chance of promotion was tough before jan, the inability to strengthen considerably is a right royal kick to the balls.

  12. If it was the summer I’d be wanting 7/8 players through the door. But as it’s January 3 is looking more realistic. For me the priority goes; right back, right winger and left back.

A case can be made for us signing players for most positions but in my opinion the three mentioned are our priority.

  13. Will always have my respect for how he lead the battle and fight last season against all odds. However, I really can’t see the thinking in bringing him back.

The only circumstance I wouldn’t mind seeing his return is if we let Knight go. That’s not me saying Shinnie is anywhere near Knight’s level but for a short term box to box roll with experience it makes sense.

Hopefully it’s just Nixon playing fantasy football.

  14. Unfortunately if the FA only want to pursue a British manager then the stars haven't really aligned. Both Howe and Potter have got their best chance at club level and the only other real alternative is Rodgers who has somewhat turned Leicester's season around, but does have a habit of sinking in to a slump for longer than comfortable.

I don't think Southgate is the one tactically, but the players seemingly love him and we did look more aggressive in this tournament against WC 18 and Euro 2020.

So that being said footballs coming home in 2024.

  15. Weird one for me, I was having this as his last tournament but the obvious replacements providing we go English/UK based are pretty much all in jobs they won’t leave ie Howe and Potter.

Last night was a gut punch, we were the better side and lost. Without being too presumptuous a final would’ve been waiting and I’d have fancied us against Argentina or Croatia. Instead we have KO at QF on our record.

All the squad seem to buy in to him so that’s another tick in his box.

My main concern would be concerning our forward role. Kane is probably good for the euros but he’ll be 33 at the next World Cup. So it’ll be touch and go if he’s still at the same level by then and I can’t see a natural replacement lurking in the shadows.

Anyway can’t see the FA making a decision so any change will come from Southgate.
