To be fair we could’ve offered him the same wage. But on a 1 year deal and Warne’s told him it’s for compo purposes. Doubt he’d sign that even if financially it is the best offer.

Pretty ignorant to the ins and outs of City’s case. How was they allowed to accrue 115 charges? Surely this wasn’t just one window or season?
PL just like the EFL have got themselves in a right pickle.
Personally I think clubs should be able to spend what they like. However, you can’t be punishing Forest and Everton and then letting off City because they broke more laws which delayed the verdict. My prediction is that City get a massive fine, maybe a 20 point deduction for the following season and maybe have 1/2 titles stripped. No way they’ll be relegated or have all the titles stripped.

Me looking for the dirty rumours in this thread.

Lonwijk on a permanent would be a good signing. Was surprised he had to resort to signing for Wycombe on loan in Jan after helping Plymouth up.
Was decent against us too.- Eoghan1884 and Crewton

Didn’t think this would be controversial but I prefer stokes new badge.

Another half century in the game for Brooke Guest, so its been a good outing for him.
David Lloyd was out for 49, caught behind off the spinner, and he didn't look too pleased with the decision. Couldn't tell either way from the replay.
Once again the likelihood of getting 20 wickets always looked remote. It’s not just a Derbyshire thing, it’s problem for basically everyone except Surrey and Essex (and this season Sussex) it seems. When Day 4 of a cricket pitch is the easiest time to bat, something is wrong.
What do you think the reason is for all the dead pitches?

No idea but everything points towards DC wanting to run the Club sensibly. Quite right in my opinion so there will only be so much allocated for new players, hence the restriction.
Luton got promoted on a shoestring, so not sure we can use tight funds as an excuse for inept performances due to poor signings.
If we spend £2.5m this summer and finish 14th, thats fair in my book. But spend that and go down and thats on Warne and recruitment.

Have you seen him play much?
Not at all, could be useless for all I know.

Josh Flint is leaving Volendam on a free. 23 year old central defender, could he be the one we watched?

I think a lack of sufficient finance will prove to be a major restriction.
How much have we got to spend?

All this talk about Warne and Rotherham players comes from us signing Washington whose garbage and our poor windows in signing forwards in general.
But as @Caerphilly Ram has shown, the evidence suggests Warne is open to signing players he hasn’t worked with before.
I for one, have previously made harsh remarks about Warne and his ‘good guy’ comments. Whilst on some points my opinion remains the same. Looking at our team spirit during the run in, there’s something to be said for signing nice people.
Let’s see how the window goes/shapes up before making sly digs. We don’t have any restrictions so there’s no excuses for poor recruitment. -

Regarding posh. Derbys best tactic would be to plant a spy on posh’s scouring network just so we can gazump them on all these small fry’s that end up being class.

Hopefully he signs as he's one of our own and could play a part at this level. However, if he does move on either a) his agent has had a worldie and got him a cracking offer or b) we aren't prepare to be bullied on contracts etc. which i think only bodes well for our future.

So now we've been roundly screwed by it, you want to give clubs who are dodging FFP restrictions by using yet another variation of the "cunning plan" ruse a free pass?
There's something to be said for allowing owners to inject as much cash as they like into a business as equity, and ban loans for any purpose other than infrastructure projects, but anyone breaking existing rules deserve exactly what we got (they won't though).
Oh no, anyone even slightly misstepping I want to see in the mud.
But as a general opinion I think FFP should be scrapped and if a club gets lucky with owners then good for them. Therefore in some respects the Coates and the Gibson’s should be praised because they haven’t shafted their clubs like Mel did too us.

Why?
To be fair what’s the issue with an owner splashing the cash if he so desires?
Of course if you got a nut case they could leave you in the lurch and cripple you. But all this FFP lark nowadays is nonsense and just stops clubs getting lucky and actually living the dream.
@Ambitious may have other reasons though. -

Don’t know why you think he was average at Preston. I remember before or after a Preston game on sky they did a segment on wether he was the best goalie in the league or not.
He also won supporters player of the year and players player of the year in 2022.
Leicester fans also were desperate for him to start in the premier league when Ward was starting over him because he was performing well whenever he played.
Yep on the few occasions I’ve seen him play he’s been solid. Was class against us when we beat PNE 1-0 in the admin season.
Worth noting though that maybe he’s had a poor season at Stoke as they don’t seem to be wanting to keep him around. -
To see a retained list.

900k on a goalie is crazy in this league. There's almost no chance of selling at a profit.
And just to temper your hopes, Sheffield Wed and Plymouth both spent less than 2.5m across both windows after promotion.
Why is the position relevant?
£0 goalkeeper
£900k on a midfieldervs
£900k goalkeeper
£0 midfielderi guess the midfielder has more chance of making a profit. But what the players bring to the team id say it’s even Stevens.
In regards to Plymouth and Weds, without sounding like forest fans justifying their £200m splurge. I doubt either club had to fill half a squad.

It's more a question of whether spending nigh-on £1m on a goalkeeper is the best use of a limited transfer budget when there appears to be some decent out of contract alternatives available and what we don't have are strikers and midfielders?
But we don’t know how limited it is.
If we’ve only got £2m in the pot I’m inclined to agree. If we’ve got £4m then I don’t see an issue. There will be decent midfielders and strikers on a free just to play devils advocate.

Regarding Nixon, he weirdly does all of his stories on a patreon which you have to pay to access. Some of his stories end up in the paper for free. But the reason why he’s so cryptic at the weekends is for this reason.
