Excellent article from Sam Wallace in last Mondays Telegraph.

Barcelona's Las Vegas-style gamble depends on legal fate of European Super League

President Joan Laporta is selling tomorrow to pay for today and spending forecasted revenues like they are guaranteed.

How do you say "Doing a Leeds" in Spanish?

On top of this shirt highlighting climate change issues, Reading fans probably do more than most fanbases to help the environment to be fair. They help by not travelling in numbers to away matches and only filling half their stadium every week.

It's also completely recyclable, which is good, because looking like that, I'm sure a lot will be getting binned

I  look forward to the Forest signing who admits that it was Hooters, or 'ooters, as Monsieur Biancone pronounces it, that brought him to Nottingham, especially that all you can eat Wings offer on Mondays.

This has reminded me of Bryan Roy's explanation of why he left Nottingham Forest for Hertha Berlin
"Berlin has everything. It is a cosmopolitan city with theatres and the people are open-minded. They are not as narrow-minded like the people in Nottingham. There are no theatres, no cinemas, hardly anything. All Nottingham has is Robin Hood... and he's dead"

    Brutal

I mean that isn't true to be honest. Many championship teams stay up. Leeds, Aston Villa, Brentford last season. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see forest fail but what makes those sides any different?

I'd say the big thing with those three sides is that the core of their teams were the same in the Championship as it was in their first season up, and the additions to their squad were to build around what they already had. A lot of Forest's first XI from last season, and arguably most of the most important players, aren't there any more, which always makes it a harder task to get a new team together and playing well enough to stay up.

i wouldn't worry about him.  I think even they're coming to a fast conclusion it was 17 million quid down the toilet.

Sounds like they've bought him to play the back to goal, hold up man role that Davis filled last season, when he seems like he's actually much more of a "run in behind" striker. Probably just looked at him, saw that he looked a big lad, and assumed that's the sort of player he is.

True, but Brennan Johnson, Neco Williams, the Nigerian player they’ve signed, possibly Dean Henderson and even Lingard if he plays well enough (doubtful) could be going to the World Cup. Despite all their signings Johnson is key to their chances next season and is still their best player. So they will be affected.

Nigeria didn't qualify for this one, they had a bit of a shock loss in their playoff game against Ghana, so they're going instead

Getting this in early but if they stay up (God forbid) it’s because it’s not a normal season.  There’s a massive break in November and December because of the World Cup and this could play to their advantage.  They won’t have many (any??) players involved.  This means they’ll be refreshed after a longer break.   Most of the other teams in the PL will have had players travel half way round the world playing in humid conditions.  This could play to the smaller clubs advantage in the 2nd half the season as they’ll have had a break, longer to reflect, develop and tweak ready for the season restarting.  I think we’ll see some very strange results.  It will also affect the FA Cup as the bigger teams will take this opportunity to rest players involved in the World Cup.

They'll have a few players going. Johnson, Williams and Hennessey are certain to go for Wales, and the first two will probably be starters. Richie Laryea certainly goes for Canada and probably starts, though I don't know how much of a part he'll play for Forest next year. Henderson has a decent shout of going as the third keeper for England. I don't know how that will compare to the teams around them, though.

I presume these are loans yeh?...if so Newcastle and Southampton will be bunging Reading a big % of the wages

Hendrick is a loan, Long was a free transfer. Could see Newcastle being willing to cover a lot of Hendrick's, seeing as he's no real chance of getting a look in at them. Long might be willing to take less for sentimental reasons.
