He's already got more out of him than Warne managed.

Or is Knight just playing with better players and now has the freedom to play without the pressure of being in front  of the uber-critical Derby fans who expected so much from 'one of our own'?

This is the reason. Every rumour, whilst rumours as we know aren't everything, are for the opposite of this. Then having seen how desperate we are for it in the flesh, it's enough for us to start to get a bit nervous.

that would be for 'some of us' to start to get nervous....

There is no hope, I watched a clip on the Reading forum of what looks like about a 12 year old lad giving it large with a foul mouth rant towards the Peterborough fans on Saturday.
I just thought what sort of parents would let your kids do that.

Last time I went to Reading's ground there was a large group of what looked like 12-14 year olds mouthing off at everyone around them - there's something wrong with folk round there....

What is to say we are not allowed to make those transfers.  Even if Saudi Arabia decides, madly, to buy us, we might be limited to what we are doing now until the end of the season.

We were told the restrictions against us had been loosened, note: not removed.

Precisiely - folk calling the club amateurs because they've tried to loan a player rather than put in a bid to buy are ridiculous - maybe we CAN'T buy because the EFL won't let us sign anyone other than on a free or on loan? - maybe some folk have short memories? We simply don't know what restrictions we're under and DC is highly unlikely (quite rightly) to make the details public until we're free of EFL interference....

Probably because some players and managers haven’t bothered reading the rules, think they don’t apply to them or instantly forget them.

I’m half watching the charity shield. Two players have been booked for kicking the ball away (those are the rules whether you agree with them or not) and Arteta has been booked for imitating the ref holding up a card to tell him the City player should be booked. That rule has been in place for some time now so there’s no excuse.

Gross stupidity from the players and manager involved - they'd apparently been briefed on how the rules wouyld be applied in the run up to the game yet still could't stop themselves - and typical inconsistency from Attwell (surprise, surprise) in that he didn't book Odegaard for demanding a booking when a Man City player accidentally stood on the very end of an Aresnal player's boot - jumping up and down and claiming it was a stamp was just embarassing....

.....As an aside, I like the fact that the stadium clock now continues to show the (added) time, instead of us all having to guess.

The away fans whistling on 7 minutes was a little embarrassing (on their part), but I appreciate they may not be able to see the South Stand clock (and I've no idea if there's a running clock on the main screen, as I can only see a slither of it?  🤷‍♂️

I suspect the shiny new graphics on the main screen can't cope with going past the standard 45 minutes so it stopped displaying the time when we got into 'added on'....

It's probably off everyone's radar with the season opening, F1 gone on holiday and ITV dropping it's option to cover live (to have the charity shield match on) but this weekend is the British round of MotoGP.

    And it's wet.

    Sprint could be carnage.

Missed the sprint, but the main race was excellent...

looks like each of them has done it once. Other examples ?   Of course you can imagine a scenario where it makes perfect sense, this player-empowerment. But I think a manger is only advised to do it if he knows the outcome will be acceptable on the pitch. Do you think Klopp doubted Virgil would get the gig?

The funny (and ironic) thing about your example is this. With Liverpool and City, you know the proud winner of the lucky dip will be a player who delivers 110%, 100% of the time. Because they all do. The concern with Hourihane is that Warne is a manager who talks endlessly about pressing, gas out, energy and commitment ; and yet in Hourihane we have an elegant footballer with a ‘storied career’ (by the standards we must now apply to our div1 selves)  but who is not consistent in his effort. The dissonance between that and the manager’s mantra is a risk for us, because if Hourihane is directing traffic (as he does, and as he will do all the more, as skipper) but not putting in the mileage, then that’s a recipe for disharmony in the dressing room.

‘like I said’, let’s hope this spurs Hourihane to more consistent effort. If it does, it’ll work well.

I think we’ll see a more consistent and therefore more effective player this season - last season it was noticeable that he got better as he played more games. Early on he was quite a way off the pace because he simply wasn’t fit enough - hardly surprising as he’d been a bit-part player before he joined us and then had a very short pre-season. This year he should be far better prepared for the rigours of a tough (and long) season and I’d expect to see that on the pitch….

An update on Reading, where the wage money is apparently stuck in China, although it will definitely be with the club in the next few days 🙄

Remarkably similar to the situation we had with Kirchner. Much easier to see that it's total b******s when you're looking from the outside in though.

Previous reports suggested that the guy does actually have (a lot of) money - but he's been critical of the Chinese government and so they won't let him take any of it out of the country, so not that similar to the Kirch - though that doesn't explain why he can't raise the money in this country via loans if he's confident he'll get to his wonga soon....

  10. You can’t make up the incompetence of the FIA - they didn’t declare a wet track during sprint qualifying (despite having to delay the start by 35 minutes due to the heavy rain) so that Aston had to follow the normal rules and go out on Mediums rather than Softs as the track dried out - increasing the likelihood of an accident and putting both Astons out of Q3 - and then the FIA announced they’d done it deliberately to stop the teams from choosing the best tyres when they stopped using Inters!

Bit harsh. I think people are just expressing legitimate concern that we haven't been able to bring in a first-choice striker who looks likely to score a decent amount of goals. We all know that's something we lack.

None of us know who Warne has or hasn't been in for. Ultimately we judge the window (and Warne) by who he manages to get through the door. And at the moment we still look very light up top, and are hearing lot of noise from the club about how difficult it is to sign players and how little money we have.

Maybe that's a negotiating tactic and maybe Warne has an ace up his sleeve. If so, great. But we don't know that either, and fans are entitled to express concern based on the situation right now.

maybe it was a bit harsh, but to see someone state "we haven't succeeded or even seemed to try to sign some of the players touted" just shows how ridiculous this feeding frenzy has got - if we've been in talks but failed that's one thing (though we probably wouldn't know as Warne is keeping things close to his chest), but to be upset that we don't seem to have tried to sign someone we haven't even been formally linked with is taking things to the extreme....

The fact we haven't succeeded or even seemed to try to sign some of the players touted is a little concerning.....

We're now reaching unheard of levels of bed-wetting - unless you're part of Warne's inner circle (and it seems no-one on here is), then you have absolutely no idea whether we've been after any of the rumours - it's nothing more than fans speculating. If you're needing to wash your sheets because we don't seem to have been in for any of these players (without knowing whether we have or not) then it might be advisable to leave the forum alone for a few days - it really can't be good for your mental health to stress about whether we've seemed to try to sign a player that we may not even have been interested in....

It must be about more than that?

It topped just about every best of poll last year, but the synopsis sounds so dull I can't bring myself to watch.

I’m sure it will be more exciting if there’s an actual bear in it…..
