My hope is something like a spirit of definance takes route and against all odds we start making a real fist of it. I think that'd help a lot, especially after the end of last season where everything was pulling us down like quicksand.
Still, it's played on grass not internet forums, and, I'm quite often wrong about football.

I think he might be a little optimistic if he thinks fans aren't going to turn on him. Some will feel offended they aren't privy to this information and being told to keep the faith after everything that's happened isn't exactly reassuring to most. If we start losing games people will get angry and even if it's just a small vocal minority, they will make themselves heard. I think some fans will see this whole meeting as a fiasco again and I'd be surprised if we see the harmony Mel is seemingly hoping for.
Even more drama and interesting times ahead most probably ?

I was there right behind the goal at Maine Road. My mate turned around to me as Quinn saved and said ” We are down then”!
    Thoroughly miserable season all round.

New owners seem to know what they are doing (even if it is a pension fund) and they've got a quality manager (imo). Think they will be in with a very good chance of  automatics this year

I agree with the above.  It was mentioned in the Jack Marriott thread that we do seem to bring in players who have done well in a system which we don't actually play. Jonny Russell actually came to us as a forward but we converted him into an attacking midfielder, so it can work, but not sure why we don't scout round pegs for round holes.
Not really seen enough of Duncan to make comment, but he does seem to be the type of player that prefers to work in a pair up front.
    Kind Regards

what norwich did was get a player in who complimented their system.  ie their scouting department did their job. instead of the scattergun transfer policy weve implemented over the last 6 years
what didnt help us tho was changing managers, all with  a completely  different tactical approach to each other

This doesn't mean I want to sign him, but he was a brilliant player when he was younger. In a parallel universe he'd have been one of the first names on the team sheet for England this summer.

Whilst the player might be happy to play when brought back into the side they have to be managed.  I remember Ipswich away and Thorne was back and showed more than a few glimpses of his old self.  He wasn't battle hardened to the Championship but we continued to play him and it shouldn't have come as a surprise that his form suffered and further injuries occured.
It could be argued it would have happened anyway, but they need to be managed carefully especially being such an important asset.
I have had an ACL myself and you are never quite the same.

Could be wrong but I think Jacob Laursen started his career here, plus he's back local coaching.
Doubtful but did wonder if there is any connection him going here because as someone mentioned it's an odd choice.
No real axe to grind with Duncan and wish him well.

We’ve really got to be cautious this time around, it’s fairly obvious we overplayed him last season due to the fact we were in such a perilous position. He and we really can’t afford for him to have a recurrence of the same injury, it could well be career ending.

My support is unconditional. I became a Ram at 4 years old & I’m 56 now. Derby County has been a constant in my life. I think I’m a patient fan and have faith in the Club.
That said I am now extremely concerned following WR’s post-match comments and I’m really hoping we get some fresh communication from MM & SP in the next 48 hours. Wayne said the pride and dignity has gone from the Club so regardless of the current situation the Club needs to say something rallying to give us something to hold on to.
The name of Derby County has been battered in the media, and frequently unfairly. I want the Club to hit back now and refute our so-called perilous state, because saying nothing now gives silent approbation to the very negative stuff that’s flying around.

Actually, if a footballer was given the choice between working on a building site, or playing football - for the same wages - I on think that they'd nearly all choose football.
    But, £0.5m is not peanuts!
I am not suggesting that they work on the national minimum age - or even a typical salary.
I am just saying that if the reason that we cannot sign players id because they will not play for as "little" as £0.5m per year, then we should not sign them.

Not surprisingly support increases when a team is doing well, just remember the heady days of 2014 when Pride Park was filled to the rafters...."Since I was young" bouncing off the roof.......
Ironically we are in a hole, the polar opposite situation and I suppose many supporters will...."stop supporting"

As a fan base, have we got the metal and love for the RAMS that the club is going to need over the next year or two. We often talk of our fantastic support, well we'll see. I rather suspect it will turn out not to be as solid or loyal as we often believe.

GangwayD reacted to LeedsCityRam in v Salford City - Pre Season Friendly
OK, a real mixed bag. The result obviously wasn't good but a good exercise against a team who pressed high, were competitive & keen to game manage - very similar to sides we'll be playing this season. Lets also not forget Salford are highly likely to be finishing top 3 in League Two this coming season (one of the biggest budgets in bottom 2 divisions) so not a massive difference quality wise.
First half we were unfortunate to go in behind. Totally dominated before the goal & even with their tails up after their goal (and pressing higher), we were still able to play through them. Bird was particularly good first half - they struggled to press us effectively because he controlled the tempo & was unafraid to pass through the lines. Carroll & Morrison also had moments of breaking through Salford's midfield but as an overall unit, the intensity wasn't good enough - too many touches, too pedestrian & not enough movement from those further forward. That said, still had a few chances - Aluko should have scored, Morrison unfortunate with header, Carroll should have got his effort on target & there were other instances of decent delivery but not enough bodies in the box.
Poor goal to concede start of the second half (first goal just a fluke - Morrison really unfortunate to concede a penalty) - poor pass from Shinnie & whilst Elliott is good in the air, to rise so easily between McDonald & Wisdom was not good enough - even if you factor in they'd only been on 6/7 mins. Thereafter, we still created chances - Baldock did well with one effort but an atrocious decision to try & pass to Morrison for the near open goal
Positives - felt Jagielka & Stearman looked very solid & rarely troubled, Sibley looked really bright when he came on, good to see Bird playing with such confidence, Forsyth put in some great delivery from left side second half (as did Byrne first half)
As a takeaway, I like how we're trying to play but we need to work on the intensity of our attacking play & one touch stuff - we're not going to open disciplined teams up otherwise. Some of that will be pre-season rustiness & a lot of new faces - we can improve & we will improve.

I’m sure his Derby debut was on a cold, wet and very windy night at Pride Park in a really physical game, forget the opposition.
He was blown around like a rag doll, but was principled in trying to pass and play coming from Spurs.
In these few games I thought he got bullied but went back and probably learnt quite a bit.  Had a real purple patch at Swansea and looked a player although had some physicality around him to mind him.
    Worth a look for sure.

Just watched the MOTD highlights of the 0-0 in the cup at the Green Army in 84. Me and dad behind the goal. Surprisingly can remember very little about the game other than their shot hitting both posts. That period has to be even worse than this. Going so close to going bust, other than Bobby a team of ageing players on one last pay day and not an awful lot of hope that things would change. Then came Arthur and the rest is history….

There are a few players who once they find their 'home' then they settle and show the sort of consistent form which meant other clubs originally invested in them.
    Sometimes the pieces just fit.
Shouldn't be an expensive gamble and Rooney will obviously know him so lets hope he can polish this diamond.
