Raich Carter reacted to Carnero in Summer Transfer Suggestion Thread 2023
Nice one...
Warne’s tough training regime came as a culture shock to the midfield man when he first made his temporary switch from the Riverside Stadium.
“It was good; different to what I am used to,” he said. “The gaffer there was big on running. There weren’t many recovery days! It was just straight back to running.
“After the first couple of days, I messaged the people back at Boro saying ‘Is this normal? Are we supposed to be doing this?’ but I soon got used to it.”

Agreed. From a supporter perspective, at this moment I'd rather be fighting for promotion than battling relegation which is what would have been likely if we'd gone up. Of course we're going to miss out on a lot of players who want to play Championship but equally, because we're a decent sized club, that's off-set somewhat. As you say, we can afford to take younger players on and let them get the games in readiness for the step up.

I'd put good money that he's available on a free or a minimal fee at the very best. It's a difficult one - we won't really want to negotiate a contract termination as we'd hope someone comes in for him so it might be a waiting game.
Everyone knows we can't afford to keep him so it's basically a fire sale. At least he got through a season injury free so you'd hope someone would be interested but he has to be gone in the summer. That should free up some funds for transfers too because no doubt his numbers are in the Business Plan we're working to with the EFL but his time here is done. The last remnant of reckless spending.

Raich Carter reacted to Blondest Goat in Derby County - (Ridiculously) Early Thoughts on 2023/24
What is the point of bringing back the players with which we have failed this season? Hope to God Warne can recruit players with more end product than Dobbin or we've got no chance of promotion.
I don't particularly dislike Dobbin by the way I just think we need more effective players. Not those with potential that might not be fulfilled for years.

I'm sure there were pics of him in a Derby shirt as a kid and I think he's been quoted as a Derby fan so pretty much. From Spondon isn't he?

5.5 point deduction for that free kick at the end.

That's him. Now 34 years old and playing as a CDM apparently!

Raich Carter reacted to Kernow in 3142 Next Season - Who will survive?
Apologies for the fairly soft naughty words in the photo but I saw this on Twitter and thought it’s a fairly accurate assessment. I think Bird/Hourihane could fill the position listed at number 4 but other than that you can see just how much we need to recruit if we are going to play Warne’s system well.
We need to find round pegs for the round holes and also add the depth needed for a full season. This summer is going to have to be very, very busy.

Raich Carter got a reaction from May Contain Nuts in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
Sorry, you're right - I wasn't clear. I think that behind the openness and accessibility, he's actually a thinker. He's very self deprecating and almost always positive and talks a lot about others perspectives but there's a few little comments he's made that makes me think he's spent some time on himself in terms of principles and philosophies. I watch / read quite a bit about performance management and he's definitely used some terms and approaches I've seen elsewhere but I think he's (rightly) careful to add a lot of humility/humanity to it.
I'm not saying he's Aristotle, just that I think there's a bit more to him than comes across in his interviews.

"And I feel the players have the ability, but bottled it and let him down. Overall, the manager has performed better than his charges."
That sums it up for me. From the way PW talks, he's quite a thinker. Of course he's not going to come out and say 'Sibs is a good player but just doesn't fit my system' or 'we're desperate for a RB but can't sign one so I'm sticking Knighty there when I'd much rather have him in midfield', etc, etc.
PW, for the benefit of the team, has to say positive things. Remember when Our Nige slated that lad he signed from Wigan (Polish striker - can't remember his name - began with a C - getting old is rubbish) on Radio Derby; saying something like 'he can go back to where he came from'. Whilst that might be his own feelings (and might be right), literally no good comes from saying it. Nor would there be any good coming from PW neg'ing (as they say) anything about the current squad in terms of balance or individuals - also, nothing could be done about it.
So yep, I think he did a good job all considered.

Raich Carter got a reaction from IlsonDerby in Knight, Bird and Sibley
I dunno - I saw it the same as Jram in that it looked a bit more than that. It had a look of 'au revoir' about it for me.
Unless he goes for £3m (which transforms our summer signings (but is unlikely)) I sincerely hope we keep him. Proper grafter.

I think PW is exactly the right man for us at the moment. With a very limited budget, under-performing players and players that aren't 'his' I think he did pretty well.
If we can have a proper run at next season I feel we could really have a chance of automatics if we can keep hold of Bird, Knight, etc.

For me, Forsyth, Davies, Stearman, Collins, Smith, Hourihane, Chester, Barkhuizen and all the loanees can go. If we can sign Roberts on a perm, I'd take him but otherwise, based on actual performances rather than reputation, I'd let the others go.
Barks, Collins, Smith and Hourihane have all been disappointing based on their pedigree. For a club in our position, we need either promising youngsters or rock solid elder pros. Hourihane and Smith might just be worth re-signing as they're not terrible but the others really haven't done it for me.
I'd keep NML - patchy but still a threat now and then.
