I’m reading comments on here about how we should spend £2 million on players.
Regardless of whether we sell Cashin, given that we clearly have a financially prudent owner and are only in the second year out of administration, with all of the financial limitations that this comes with, anybody thinking we’re going to drop a couple of million on a player has lost touch with reality.
If this applies to you, please wash your face in the sink, take a hard look in the mirror and come to terms with the waters that we are swimming in this year.

Obviously Waggy fully deserved his MoTM for today - he was different gravy in the first half.
However Thommo was simply brilliant today from start to finish, he never stops running, is tenacious in the tackle, is tremendously strong for a little chap and he’s got a trick or two in his bag as well. He’s got that little edge to him too.
Considering he was only playing park football a couple of years back, his rise is an absolutely fabulous. There’s one hell of a player there in him and I’d be looking to get him under a much longer contract asap if possible.
im gonna stick my knock out here, but I think he brings more to the team than Knight did and will be a better player than Knight in the future.
A complete pocket rocket and I love him !! 😃🐏

Rooney was fantastic last week, and Warne said he was “pretty faultless” after the first 20 mins. I don’t think we should be short term replacing our own youngsters when they have a chance to play and learn.

Of the 8 players that we've signed, only 2 came from Rotherham.
This constant criticism of Warne/Thomas/DCFC based on a false narrative that we "only sign players from Rotherham" is pretty pathetic.

Maybe Warne is frustrated because he has targets ready & lined up but needs the money from 2 players who are not willing to commit beyond this season. Warne has always said he wants players that want to be here, not signing a new indicates they dont really.
Maybe the incoming money will be used on players who will have a sell on value, someone like Nombe maybe.
Warne has gone on record as saying he wants players in a decent age bracket as well as wanting pace throughout the team, which is exactly what every fan wants - maybe he just doesnt have enough money to get this without further sales.
On paper, everyone was buzzing with the Bradley signing, I still think he will come good. He missed a lot of games last season and appears to be needing more sharpness. Waggy & Washington both look decent at this level, Wilson has shown promise in spells & is young, majority rate Ward, similar to Bradley I think a lot of fans were happy to bring in Elder too (he wll end up being first choice LB/LWB), Nelson was a bit 50/50.  So for people to not rate Warne's signings I think is unfair, its still early doors to judge them, Warne knows what we need just like every fan, whether we have enough money to do it remains to be seen.

Would be a good signing if ditching 352, or at least make us more flexible between formations. He also played for Barnsley which is only 12.7 miles from Rotherham.

It was obvious from the matchday thread last night that there were posters on here whom would take great delight for us as a club to lose the next x amount of games to:-
    (a) justify their own personal predujices against Warne and
    (b) make him more likely to be removed from his job, see previous point above.
Could never get my head around why a so called supporter would want their team to lose a game. Weird.

richgee1976 reacted to Tyler Durden in In defence of Paul Warne.
Some of the comments last night about Warne on the matchday thread were pretty sad and pathetic quite honestly.
The latest bandwagon to be jumped on seems to be comparing Warne with David Brent.
Well Brent is portrayed as a supine incompetent in The Office who tries to be everyone's friend, avoids making difficult decisions and believes that in his role as manager the number one measure of success is being popular. He's also portrayed as being totally insecure and absolutely disorganised.
I don't see any of these traits in Warne as a manager. Move on.

I like Paul Warne and his staff, as people.

From what I can tell, they're a decent, honest and principled bunch.

I believe that's what attracted David Clowes to them in the first instance, alongside their record of success in League One.

I'll also add that they saw those principles reflected in David Clowes, hence their decision to come on board.

From the start it was referenced by all parties the entire ethos of the club needed changing, and rebuilding work was needed from top to bottom, which is not the work of a moment, or indeed a few months.

The backroom staff had been hollowed out to the bare minimum, across multiple departments.

A review of the remaining staff saw several leave, and a new round of recruitment has taken place, building the club back up to operating strength across the board, from the casual staff, offices and the football support and academy roles, a process that is still ongoing.

That's not a normal issue that an incoming manager has to grapple with, rebuilding the back room to what it should be, while ensuring his requirements are met. We've seen a level of churn across the Academy management in that time, which must have demanded Warnes attention at various stages, in addition to the normal commitments management brings.

We've an owner learning about operating a football club, having taken over in sheer desperation, leaning on the manager he's appointed I presume, there seems to be no other football experts within his team we know of.

None of this is normal for a first team football manager, especially in his first job away from a much smaller club with different expectations, so mistakes and stumbles will inevitably happen.

We got close enough last season that there were few grumbles about his position, yet after only two games, one in the league, there's a sizable minority calling for change, and a notable shift in how he's perceived.

I'm not a natural defender of Warne, but will stand up for his work so far.

I'm a self confessed football snob, and don't see him as the man to lead us back to the promised land of the Premier League, probably based around pre conceptions of his football philosophy rather than any evidence, but he's Clowes choice to launch that journey, and some of the criticism on here recently is well out of kilter with the job he's done so far.

Hope we sign Sharpe. He's a proven goal scorer and we need one. He was subjected to moronic, mindless and completely groundless abuse by some of our so called fans so he gave a bit back. Good for him. The fact that he's a professional footballer doesn't mean he should have to put up with any of that. The historical animosity is entirely the fault of Derby fans - can't see that Sharpe has done anything wrong at all.

Just to chime in here and say I like the idea of letting the players decide.
In fact, I would go as far as saying it's a great idea.
They are all professional footballers, most will have played in numerous teams under various captains.
They will know individually more than anyone what they want from their captain and vote accordingly.
As a fan, I couldn't care less who gets the armband, it's not going to affect my life in any way other than see them lead the team out the tunnel.
The captain announcement is on par with the squad numbers announcement. Just a formality.

He is frustrated, but that’s the situation we’re in. He and the club are trying to find the right players, and seemingly are coming up against barriers and so rather than focusing on the problem as some of our fans are keen to do they’re looking at solutions. Of which the potential is some ageing but capable strikers and/or young loans we have to wait for. It’s circumstance, it’s not about blame, that’s just where we find ourselves.
Let’s say replacing McGoldrick’s goals is a maths problem. We need to find a way to replace those 25 goals. Let’s say your prediction for Washington is accurate and he scores 10. Now we’re looking to replace 15 goals. Sibley scored 6 in all competitions last season, a large % of his games played out of position. If he starts in a more advanced role could he score more? Lots of our fans say he can, let’s give him a bit of credit and say 3 more goals. Now we’re looking for 12 more. NML looked frightening at the front end of the season then burned out in the second half, we’ve got better options down that right side so he shouldn’t have to play rwb. He scored 7 league goals, let’s back him to score another 3 on top this season giving him a nice round 10 goals, now we need 9 more. Let’s say Waghorn signs and manages to shin a few in, 5 goals. Now we need 4 from the team. Joe Ward scored 7 last year for Peterborough, maybe he chips in with 3 goals….
That’s why I don’t see it as a “desperate situation”, people are keen to hang onto this notion that we haven’t replaced McGoldrick’s goals because we haven’t signed a like for like replacement. It is reasonable and realistic to see where there are goals within the current squad, we might not have the luxury of watching McGoldrick oozing class, but we’ll carry a threat throughout the season and still score goals in my opinion.
A desperate situation would be having little to no evidence of goals from anyone in the team, or an unproven youngster (Plange), a journeyman striker (Kazim), and one Tom Lawrence to call upon such as when the club was actually in a desperate situation under Rooney.

Nope, not me. We’ve never argued.  But I bet you’re wrong and that the business plan allowed us to make a loss. Two reasons why I would conclude that. 1) because even the efl would recognise that it would be impossible for us to suddenly decrease our expenditure and remain competitive (given that our main outgoings are players wages) to such a degree that we make a profit, which is what you’re suggesting and 2) because the EFL’s own ffp rules explicitly allow clubs to make a loss year after year after year. The rules just try to limit the level of loss. It would be perverse - even for the efl - if they suddenly insisted that any business plan was predicated on us making a profit in our first year out of administration.
we have been prudent; we have probably exceeded our income targets/plans; we have managed our budgets and persuaded the EFL that we are no longer a financial basket case. But I bet our expenditure exceeds our income.

I know right? Weve only signed the captain of a championship promotion winning side, a former League two player of the year (only one season ago) a former League one team of the year full back, a championship centre half with over 300 games experience and championship striker with international experience .
Fecking awful that for League One, diabolical!! 🙄🙄🙄
