I'm enjoying the amount of Romanticism. Dismissing Picasso as 'modern nonsense' is a little silly and his sense of beauty in art is narrow.
I do agree that current trends in art allow poor examples to be celebrated just because they are 'modern'. However, maybe 150 years ago, people in coffee houses were having the same conversations about impressionism.
I guess he sees beauty as timeless and not fashionable.  Replace 'art' with 'music' and the contrast is even larger.

I really love this lecture from Scott Burdick. It's a refutation of the aesthetic and intellectual value of modern art. Burdick also shares some interesting theories as to why modernism is so all pervasive with critics and galleries. It also has some shameless self promotion of his own work, but since I'm very much a fan I see that as a bonus.

Great idea for the new game. Can’t wait to get the answer only to scroll down and see somebody else got it about 3 hours before me

Thanks for this thread @admira. It's been a fun excuse to jog the memory about some great players and to kvetch about the players I didn't like.

The origins of this are pretty funny. It's a joke from an internet forum where the users decided to try to fool the media into falsely reporting this by spreading rumours that the three extended fingers in the "ok" gesture represent a "w" for white, whilst the circle and wrist is a "p" for power. Obviously it worked like a charm because modern media is chock full of lazy hacks who don't check sources and only care about clickbait.

The OK hand gesture used by divers internationally and is widely available as an imoji is apparently now a hate sign used by white supremacists.

    524. Current club not displayed. The managerial career of an ex Rams manger.
Well, this day had to come sometime. Over the past 19 months I've covered every possible ex Ram player from the 'modern' era, several managers and a couple of the current squad but have now exhausted the options.
I'm having the weekend off and then have an idea for something else. Thanks to all of you who have joined in, it was hard to catch anyone out as the Rams fans are so knowledgeable. I think Floyd Streete was about the only one that I had to reveal.

Nicky Hunt got booed off when Clough hooked him after about 20 minutes of a truly appalling display.
Stern John got dogs abuse. Much of it was due to him being ex Forest, but I recall him attempting to shoot from about 35 yards and nearly clearing the north stand. The booing that ensued is definitely the most negative reaction I've ever heard for a Derby player.

First of all, I can't get over the undue weight ITV place on the role the "cheesy chips" played in this incident. Second, he doesn't look the type. People with garish neck tattoos are usually good as gold. Thirdly, he's been open about his issues with mental health, so I hope any horrible bigots who were thinking about criticising him keep their opinions to themselves.

I think it's because people don't want to have to constantly use six syllables when Alexander-Arnold is on the ball. Super hard mode for commentators would be a team of English zoomers all with double barrelled surnames against Georgia.

Pearson seems to get away with everything because of the play off final goal. I've never seen a central midfielder less inclined to even attempt a tackle.
I agree about Ravanelli too. He was a lazy knob who's main contribution was to take up spaces where Malcolm Christie would've been far more dangerous.

I think Stephen Pearson gets into the side, skiving lily livered cheat. Mick Coop gets in both the all time worst 11 and this 11 ahead of Schnoor. I'd also promote Ravanelli from the bench to the starting 11. Very unfair on Keogh

Very interesting. I've always acknowledged that Brown was working under incredibly difficult circumstances at Derby, but that doesn't exonerate him for some of the bafflingly poor decisions he made whilst he was here.
It's intriguing to hear his take on Burley shutting down the academy. I have to say it seems a bit far fetched to me to jump to the conclusion that Burley neglected the academy out of spite because of some power struggle with Terry Westley. The club didn't have two pennies to rub together, so to me it's entirely more plausible that shutting the academy was a cost cutting measure. Then there's the rather large disconnect between Phil Brown crowing about how much he valued the academy, whilst ignoring 2 home grown England U21 'keepers in favour of Kevin Poole and selling Marcus Tudgay for a bag of magic beans whilst playing Dean Holdsworth up front.
I'd also be fascinated to hear which player Murdo Mackay signed during Brown's tenure that impressed him to the point of thinking there must be something dodgy going on. There's no doubt Mackay had that type of deal in him, as he signed Bisgaard, Idiakez, and Rasiak the previous season, but who is Brown talking about? Did he consider Paul Thirwell to be an unbelievable signing?
