I don't remember Warne ever saying that we would be signing 3 premier league players on loan? Does anyone else?

Of the players linked previous, I am pretty sure I read Hinshelwood went out with Brighton but after checking heir games he did not play a single minute.

Not sure who else is on tour..

When you see Sam Gallagher move for £1.5m then I would make the decision to completely disregard looking at strikers from the English leagues.

Gallagher isn't without his merits, but he's 28 now and has a career best of 11 league goals. Last season he managed 3 in 24 games. Osula for £10m being quoted - never scored above League One and looked almost comical at times with the ball at his feet.

Yates was an incredibly smart, value-for-money signing that simply didn't get the credit it should've done.

If we are to find a striker that can provide us with the quality we need, it sure as s*** isn't coming domestically.

Absolutely spot on mate. Gallagher 29 next month and is basically a 1 in 5-6 striker. Granted his other attributes could be exactly what we need.

But if £1.5 million gets you that. I would rather spend that on that Lind from Denmark.

If we have no money for a competent striker, and Smith is all we can get, surely it's criminal that more time and effort hasn't gone into bringing brown up to scratch

How exactly would you have got Brown "up to scratch" last season?

We were going for promotion out of the league and there is no way you can stick an 18 year old academy striker in if he's not ready. Sending him out on loan to play is exactly to get him up to scratch? What more would you like us to have done?

You're talking like we have no money for a striker when Warne has openly said we are after a new striker. The window is just over a month away from closing.

Don't really understand this desperation for him to arrive quickly. There are probably a few more deals -loans from PL clubs perhaps - that have been agreed but conditions require us to wait until the back end of the window to complete. The only difference with this keeper is that our interest has got into the public domain (though NEVER from a source within the club).

Its not the arriving quickly. Its the fact that we would have agreed to sign him and completed a medical to them let him play in 2 more games. It is ridiculous.

If he joins the day before Blackburn, I want him to start. Why? Because he’s obviously signing as our number one and nothing beats game time to perfect understand between him and his defenders.

Lets just hope it’s with a back four and not a back five.

Not for me. If he signed the day before Blackburn I would play Vickers.

I'd play Zetterstrom in the cup against Chesterfield.

Leigh Curtis released an article about him there which states the Djurgarden chief executive expects JWZ to play on Thursday and Sunday and then join us. So you’d imagine he’ll fly over to Derby on Monday/Tuesday with every pre agreed etc. So won’t start v Blackburn I wouldn’t say.

Looking forward to hearing what has been going on with this. Whilst I understand their insistence on him playing in their Europa games cos they cannot register another keeper for those games, their manager thinking he plays for them on Sunday to in the league is crazy.

We have agreed everything, hes coming over for a medical. Why on earth would we let him play in the league game?

They had 2 keepers on the bench the last game!!!

I wasn’t being critical but I don’t think a, for example, good keeper (£1.5m) vs an above average keeper (free ish) moves the needle more than an above average striker (£2m ish) vs a crap one (£500k ish). I’ve never seen Zetterstrom but signing a keeper for £1.5m in the championship suggests you’ve a decent budget. I whole heartedly disagree that having a good keeper improves a team more.

Obviously a very simplified example with all sorts of exceptions but if we go into this season without having signed another decent number 9 we’ll be in more trouble than if we just had a half decent keeper vs hopefully a very good one.

I get your point mate, but the difference between a good keeper and an average keeper is 10 points a season. It is a massive position that we need to get right.

£1.4 million is the rumoured amount, which I imagine will be everything including the add ons. The initial outlay I imagine will be a bit less, but I will wait to see what it is when we sign him.

I have not seen a keeper move on a free transfer that I would have had at Derby as number 1.

We know what we are doing, we are being ran the right way. There is a month of the window left yet. Nothing to say we won't spend the same, if not slightly more on a striker.

He’s definitely a good signing. Just we know full well he’s not available for at least 5 games, including the first 3. That’s more games than I want Collins to start all season.

No I agree and its not ideal. Ok if we get a number 9 in time. Is one of the 3 games the league cup game?

If we wanted to sign a number 9, English, 27 years old, who had been in league one, champ and champ over the last 3 seasons and scored 42 goals across those 3 seasons. How much do you reckon he would cost?

I think as far as striking options go, we're surely looking at options abroad and / or the loan market. The fees being asked in the domestic market for any proven performers are absurd.

As for Smith, well he's a decent operator, much better than some on here credit him for being, but I'm kinda hoping it's more lazy-linking, or a back-up option. That said, I'm not writing off Yates just yet and the potential upside might be that Dajaune might see a bit more gametime. I love Jimmy Collins to death, but I think I'd be leaning towards the young'un as my current plan-b. More than anyone, JC has looked leaden legged in pre-season IMO and until we find at least one more credible goal threat, that's a concern. Still plenty of time left and we will still have cash to spend...

    Agree with you here.

Yates scored 15 goals for a struggling Blackpool team and last season was top scorer for a Swansea team that were all over the place, changed manager and wildly regarded that he didnt suit the new managers style. Spent a lot of time on the bench, but was still top scorer for them.

I think Yates is a really good signing.

  10. Clearly the striker market is extremely difficult and you do not get much for your money at all.

£10 million for Will Osula (3 goals in 44 career apps) and £6 million for Jay Stansfield (very good potential, but has had one season in league one and one in the champ)

Those prices are insane and highlight what you can get for your money. Stansfield was one I mentioned at the end of the season as one we should look at, but paying £6 million (not that we would) is outrageous.

I know Warne has said he wants a number 9, I took that to mean he is wanting the conventional 9, target man who holds the ball up and gets on the end of crosses into the box. But he could have meant a poacher in the box, as we do not have one of them either (someone like Taylor at Luton)

So far we have got the deals in that have been relatively straight forward, Jackson and Osborn were frees, Ozoh on loan, Kenzo as Warne said started off as a no too expensive, before it became affordable so the deal got done, Adams was always going to happen, probably ended up being a lot more complicated than we anticipated, Yates a pretty straight forward loan.

There is probably around 5-6 more to come in and these are the ones we need to be patient for. Some will probably be prem loans, some maybe from abroad.

I think we will get in the players we need and if we have to wait till the end of the month then fine. They will be in.

If the striker ends up being Smith so be it. He is different to what we have, a big strong target man. Not my first choice, but I would get behind the bloke.

I honestly cannot think of any strikers out there that we could bring in really. But I am sure we have our targets.

Darren Witcoop done a Q&A on X, a few things ref Derby -

    - Zetterstrom isnt our first choice, was looking at someone else (not Iversen)

    - We are front runners for Dembele but says ultimately money talks

    - The winger he was on about the other day was Poveda who has gone to Sunderland

    - Also there was a free agent we were after but he looks to be going elsewhere now

Wonder who the free agent was?

  12. Warne has literally said after the last game he wants a number 9 and an attacking midfielder and another winger because we don't have enough goals in the team. So he knows exactly what we need.

Players continuously crossing balls out of play, passing balls out of play is not the managers fault.

Also everytime I watch Barkhuizen play football it's like he's just woken up in his car, got out and then played football. He's probably had less than 10 decent games in a Derby shirt. If we bring another winger in I think he'll be gone. Infact if he didn't trigger that one year extension I don't think we'd have kept him

On what basis have you stated this, how many times you seen him play or are you on the coaching staff and see him train everyday? I thought he looked one our most dangerous strikers when he came on in Spain.

How many times have you seen him play?

Saying he is ready to start in the Championship because he looked dangerous in a pre season friendly against Stockport.

Nobody has seen him play regularly because he hasn't.

So when people say he's ready to play. On what basis are they knowing he is ready to play? Cos of a few pre season friendlies.

I mean Jack Marriott scored against Chelsea the other day. Shall we get him back?

You've said it there. "Are you on the coaching staff"

These are the only ones that see him every single day in training. They will know if he's ready or not.

We will be able to see the same potential that Newcastle and Sunderland see. If one of them signed him he'd be on loan at this season and possibly next too.

  14. It is 100% not Devante Cole and it is 100% not Camacho. You only have to look at pictures of Cole and Camacho to know its neither of them.

Bloke looks more like Scott McKenna then either of them two.

Whoever that is will not be a player we are close to signing.

Can you imagine Warne in talks with Cole or Camacho all week, nothing done, nothing agreed and he goes "Why don't you go and sit in the away end with all our fans"

Never been officially linked but John Percy is saying Harry Souttar will be leaving on. Not sure how “pacey” he is though. I remember there was forum talk of him and Longwijk early on in the window.

I dont think he is pacey. But hes about 9ft 3.

Won’t get a transfer update tonight as our own media team never ask them questions and bbc radio derby are for some reason waiting for tomorrow to release the interview with Warne.

Is that normal? It's tomorrow at 6pm too. Long time to wait that is.

A pacey CB, LWB and a target man is what we need after we get our Swedish keeper.

Creative midfielder, number 9 and a pacey centre back are the priorities for me after the keeper.

I'd like a LWB. But with Elder and Osborn I think the other positions are much more of a priority.
