Ebiowei having a medical with Oxford today according to Football Insider/Pete O'Rourke. I'm mightily impressed with their signings this summer, I think they'll surprise quite a few people. https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-crystal-palaces-malcolm-ebiowei-undergoing-oxford-medical-today/

Honestly if you swapped Derby for say Bolton on that list of clubs he's been at, nobody would be wanting us to sign him at all. He has done absolutely nothing of any note at all. Yes he has got some decent skills when running with the ball, but clearly there is little to no end product on the end of it. He would not get in our side at all.

I know it’s a simplistic view but if we can consider forking out 1m+ for a gk then we need to be looking at spending the same and more to get a proven and good striker.

Whilst I will judge things at the start of the season it does worry me that we haven’t already tied up that striker seeing as it’s been seen as our number one priority since most of last season. I thought we would have tied someone up early…. And I mean on a permanent not a loan.

If we don’t get goals we will struggle it’s as simple as that.

I've said this before but honestly what striker do you expect us to sign for between £1-£2 million.

When you consider Osula is going for £10 million, Fulham want £6 million got Jay Stansfield.

The striker will more than likely be a loan or we might get lucky with one from abroad. But that will come with risks.

Well we still signed Washington despite his injury record 🙄

How long do we wait? We have no actual number one keeper at present, a pretty piss poor frontline and very little creativity in the midfield, not to mention the defence will get torn to pieces at this level.

Then we'll wait and wait and have the crap leftovers as per usual on deadline day.

Washington made 36 apps in 20/21, 35 apps in 21/22 and 35 apps in 22/23. He picked up a knee injury towards the end of 22/23. Then he signed for us.

TJJ has had 5 loan spells at 5 different clubs in that same time frame. He made 25 apps in 20/21, 12 apps in 21/22 and 17 apps in 22/23 and every season he picked up an injury.

There is no comparison to Washington and TJJ's injury record. TJJ is only 23 too. The amount of injuries he has had is concerning and not worth the risk.

The keeper argument is a moot point, he will be here next week as we all know. Our defence is fine, we'll sign someone there.

You wait until they aren't available anymore. Then you move on. We could easily go and sign 5 players tomorrow if we wanted. But the ones we want are good players that we have competition for.

I have no problem waiting and having them for 43 games instead of 46.

Surprised we've not got for John Jules.

Either way very disappointed we won't have anymore attacking options in before Blackburn

We have not gone for John-Jules because he's made of quavers.

We have our targets that we want and if we think we have a chance of getting them, but we have to wait, then we should wait.

Do we just move on to our 3rd, 4th or 5th choice just to say we have signed someone?

The window shuts on Friday 30th August. We have 3 league games before then, before we play Bristol City at home on 31st August, then its an international break, which I hate, but will give us 2 weeks on the training ground and probably almost do a mini pre-season for any new signings.

Yates only misses 2 league games. If we can to the end of the month with 4-6 points on the board. Then we will be ready in September to push on with a full squad.

    On injuries

    - Ward woke up with a swollen knee so being cautious with him

    - Nelson woke up ill

    - Washington played with the 21’s to get more minutes

    - No mention of Fornah which is weird as he’s apparently been back in full training, must be on the way out soon.

    You got the link mate?

  6. The thing is £1.5 million is getting us, by all accounts, a really good goalkeeper. With huge potential, only 26 and capped by his country.

Considering £10 million now would buy you Will Osula. I am really not sure if we will spend £1.5-£2 million on a striker as it might not get us very much.

Unless we can unearth a gem from abroad. But they would be unproven, a risk and no guarantee they would score goals.

I would have a look at that Alexander Lind. But like I said, a risk.

If we weren't to sign any players between now and Blackburn, our team would probably be: Vickers; Nelson, Bradley, Cashin; Wilson, Adams, Osborn, Elder; Jackson, Mendez-Laing; Collins

When comparing with our end of season team, we've essentially replaced first choice options in Wildsmith and Sibley with their backups in Vickers and Elder. We've also replaced Smith for Osborn (an improvement) but lost Bird for Jackson. Overall, our starting 11 is currently weaker than last season.

It's still obvious we're 5 starters short of where we want to be. We just need to hope we get most of those sooner rather than later

I would be amazed if Kenzo & Ozoh didnt start to be honest.

Hmm. I think you’re being very generous there. If he was so good why would we be in the market for a keeper? Why would he have favoured Wildsmith last season?

I can’t think of the specific game last season but I can remember enough errors to justify Warne’s selection of Wildsmith.

Perhaps I will be a proved wrong by the end of the game but I’m not sure what you’ve seen from us so far that makes you think we can beat them.

We are in the marker for a keeper because we only have one!

Vickers did come in last season, as Wildsmith made errors and was completely off it, nowhere near the level he was the season before.

Vickers came in. Didn't let anyone down, then got injured. Which let Wildsmith back in.

I am not saying Vickers is number one material. But he isn't that bad.

  9. 11 minutes ago, Nuwtfly said:

Do you genuinely think that? I would have to disagree with you there. Can't see us getting anything out of the game if we're starting Vickers, Bradley, Elder, Collins...

Appreciate that is quite pessimistic but I think this team really struggles as it stands and our pre-season so far supports that (hopefully that changes tonight, though).

Why couldn't we beat Blackburn with Vickers in goal? I don't get the hate he gets. I have never seen him make a mistake. Is it because we know we are close to the Swede keeper and now all of a sudden because he won't be in goal then Vickers is not good enough and we will likely get beat cos he is in goal? Same with Elder. Injury disrupted season last season, we havent seen anywhere near enough of him. Seems to have come back fit and in good shape.

    We're playing Blackburn. Not Barca.

  10. A month left of the transfer window and some people are panicking. Crazy.

If it was 31st August today, I would share your concerns.

Warne has said himself we do not have enough goals in the team, he wants an attacking midfielder/number 10 and a striker.

He has also said these will be likely be loans an when you want decent loans, you have to wait and you have to be patient (evidently people are not)

He said he was hopeful of having players in for Blackburn, but if we don't, we don't. Plenty of time and a big long season. Our team now is good enough to go to Blackburn and win.

If the manager came out and said he was happy with the team and nobody else would be coming in, I would be worried.

But he has said the opposite.

There will be at least 5-6 more in.

Some of the moves I don’t mind, game to a Sunday is fine. The Boxing Day one probably helps, same with Leeds on 29th.

The boxing day one is the only annoying one really. Leeds was always on the 29th anyway at 3pm. Now it's just at 5.45 instead.

Yeah I don’t think it’s too catastrophic, was expecting more disruption

Yeah me too. I think people see the amount of games moved and are annoyed. Its not as bad as I thought.

I have just had a Quick Look and it seems there are 5.

To be fair. Before the TV changes we only had 8.

    Boro been moved to 1230

Portsmouth moved to a Friday night.

Sheff Weds been moved to 12:30

  14. The next month is absolutely key for me and where my expectations will be. Because we are probably 5-6 players short in my opinion.

As it stands now, I think we would be lucky to stay up. We simply do not have enough goals in this team at the moment.

I actually think with the right service Yates can get you 10-15 goals. Which is a good return. My worry is the service.

So many times our players make the wrong decision in the final third, where one ball will create a chance, but we mess it up, so no chance created.

The last friendly is a prime example (Do not care about the result) but NML came on, first touch was a simple pass out wide to set Wilson away and he passed it straight out of play. Then Shrewsbury gave the ball away to us, we had 2 players in the box unmarked. NML hits his cross into the defender. I remember Barkhuizen crossing a ball straight over the top of everyone and out of play. Doesn't matter what number 9 we sign, if we aren't putting crosses into the right area.

The Swedish keeper will clearly sign.

Then as Warne said. A number 9, a number 10 and a centre back with pace. If we can get these in, I think we can push up towards mid table, sort of 11th-15th.

Ideally on top of those we can bring in a left back and an attacking midfielder. Then we really will be ok.

But the 9, 10 and centre back are really important.

I will reserve judgement until the window shuts.

I wonder if this could be us, 6ft 3 striker...

Looking at the comments it appears he is a terrible footballer, who just seemed to have a knack of scoring goals at Cardiff.
