Premier ram reacted to Oldben in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
    Hey fellow Rams fans,
As we all know, our beloved Derby County has shown a relatively strong defensive performance in League One this season, ranking 6th in terms of goals against with a total of 39 goals conceded and an average of 1.03 goals conceded per game. We've managed to keep 15 clean sheets overall, with 9 at home and 6 away. It's great to see our defense being more solid at home, conceding an average of 0.84 goals per game, compared to 1.21 goals per game in away matches.
Despite conceding just 1 own goal this season, we've allowed 6 goals in the first 15 minutes of matches, which luckily hasn't been a significant concern for our defense. However, we seem to be more vulnerable defensively in the second half of matches, conceding 15 goals in the first half and 24 goals in the second half.
Now, let's talk about the impact of only being able to sign free agents and having a small squad on our defensive performance. The limitations in signing players have likely affected our ability to bring in experienced and top-quality defenders, which might have contributed to some defensive vulnerabilities. Additionally, a smaller squad does mean that our defenders are playing more minutes without sufficient rotation, leading to fatigue and potentially affecting their performance in the second half of matches.
Given these challenges, I truly believe that our manager Warne has been doing an excellent job. He's had to work with transfer restrictions placed on the club by the EFL and a smaller squad, yet he's managed to keep the team competitive and maintain a solid defensive record. It's evident that Warne's tactical acumen and ability to motivate the players has played a crucial role in our team's performance this season.
After last season, when the club nearly went bankrupt and the start of this season when we almost didn't have enough players to field a team for the season, I wonder how many fans might have expected the team to be fighting for survival instead of being in the position we are at this stage in the season. It's a testament to Warne's leadership and the resilience of our players that we've defied expectations and remained competitive.
In my opinion, we should give Warne all the credit he deserves for his outstanding work and continue to support our team as they push for a stronger and better future.

Rotherham were certainly underdogs, but perineal is a bit below the belt…

I’d have gone for Tony Mowbray in the summer rather than making Rosenior interim. Got Blackburn up who were in a not too dissimilar state to us, and re-established them in the Championship. That’s a much more relatable experience than what Warne did with Rotherham. Managing a big fish in a small pond is a very different job to managing the perineal underdog.

Another opinion being masqueraded as fact. In your opinion Clowes got the appointment of Warne wrong. What is the evidence that backs this up? Clowes himself says he has a longer term expectation of rebuilding the club, this short-termism you seem keen on hasn’t at any point entered into the publicised discussion of the owner. He has appointed Warne based on his track record at this level, given him a contract with time to build and set expectations of the club being established in the championship within 5 years. The only expectations not being met currently are those of yourself and some other fans.
What are the key attributes of this squad that make it so obviously promotion capable as you’ve stated? I’d argue the lack of striking depth, no recognised right backs, aging and inexperienced centre backs, and a general lack of depth throughout the club contradict your view, capable of promotion? Possibly, but not comparable to the balanced squads of Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth.

Also, when does the season end? Mathematically the play offs are still possible (though maybe less probable) which in turn means promotion is too.

The season hasn’t finished yet and Warne has been in charge for less than a season under financial restrictions. What were you expecting 🤔

Was great last year everyone sticking together, get those that say you can’t always say “least we’ve got a club” yeah I get that but people have to understand the effect it’s had on the club, building from the very start again, we’ve got a good core squad but they’re all either kids or OAPs Warne needs time and his own players that are actually in there prime.

It was always going to need overhaul in thr close season whoever was in charge
that squad was put together in a two week window pre start of the season and about 5 minutes after we found out we still had a club.
might add to lets not forget no matter what dans thought of the players we brought in they we’re whats left of the window .. ie the ones no one else wanted
we go again this closed season, while still massively hamstrung by restrictions somehow we’re still in a much better position than we we’re this time last year

Mark my words - if we're struggling in 5 years time (in whatever division) there will be fans wanting Clowes out. Football fans are the most fickle people.
As far as I'm concerned as long as DC doesn't asset strip us and run us into the ground he can have the red carpet treatment for life and the freedom of Derby.

So Clowes got rid of an interim manager and replaced them with a manager with a pedigree of getting promoted from League 1.
    Pretty revolutionary step huh.
Yer that's still not enough for some folks on here.
And all their criticisms of Warne are in fact a criticism by proxy of Clowes whom ultimately hired the guy.
    Words fail me.

The one Change I'd probably like to see is, if a player goes down "injured" and the game has to be stopped then, unless it's the result of a foul, they should have to go off for treatment. None of this dropping to the floor, rubbing their head/knee/whatever for a bit and then getting up to and carrying on. Also, book a player if he rolls back on the pitch just to stop the game.

Not really sure how Cashin fails to make the shortlist. A tad off his game by his own high standards in recent weeks, but consistently the top performing young CB in the L1 for the balance of the season.
Fingers crossed for slightly less 'interest' in him from other clubs as a consequence. I wouldn't mind that at all.

Premier ram reacted to ram59 in Cashin Snubbed in EFL young player awards
Cashin has been snubbed in the shortlist for the EFL young player awards. despite being 4th of ALL players in the whoscored ratings, unlike the 3 nominees who aren't in the top 10.
It  sums up the EFL feelings towards the club.

Bird, Hourihane and Smith/Knight in the middle. Roberts, Cashin, Fozzy, Smith/Knight at the back. Preference for Smith in midfield and Knight at RB as I happen to think that's where they've played their best for us this season.
Having NML, Barks and Dobbin off the bench to stretch teams in the last 20 mins is also appealing to me.

I have said it elsewhere but would be inclined to try both Sibley and Didzy as 10s behind Collins and get width from the full backs, of which one could be Knight, with license to get forward.

All the players tried their best but it wasn’t enough .
For what my opinion is worth I think Warne will take us to the playoffs despite Saturdays result as Posh still have Ipswich and Barnsley to play .
Warne is our manager and has a 4 year contract.
    I will back Warne

Very good, though I prefer the shorter (2-parter) stories from the first couple of series, to the 6 parters later on.
