What home truths did they need to hear though? It’s not their fault our main form of attack is hoping NML can beat three players whilst everyone else floods the box!

Mehhh, it’s a bit of both. Rosenior reminded me of Clement (even down the the parallel of trying to introduce running power to your midfield by playing your Irish academy graduate up-front).
You need runners to go alongside the creativity. Warne’s just going too far the other way.
Alarm bells rang after his first or second post-matcher when he said we’re trying too many intricate triangles in the final third.
We’re now leaving our wing-back to beat 2/3 players as bodies pile into the box.

    Alright Ed?
It’s an inescapable fact that Pearson just tried to shoehorn the McClaren side/Clement mess into a Leicester 4-4-2. Bryson at holding mid? Butterfield floating left-winger?

One lingering thought in my mind is that Clough built an energetic team before adding the footballers in 12/13, that would then progress the next season under McClaren.
The Rosenior version of this team DID need more running power and movement.
Maybe Warne can find a balance in January?

Do we have the players for ‘winning football’, as you put it? We’ve spent the summer signing players with a system in mind.
This has a bit of the Wassall to Pearson to McClaren to Rowett about it.

Not sure if this is necessarily the right thread, but thought we used Knight wrong today.
Playing an energetic midfielder off of the striker isn’t the same as adding forward running power to the midfield. It’s what Clement did wrong when he effectively played Jeff up front.
Bryson didn’t play off of Martin. He would just make run after run after run without receiving the ball but he’d stretch the play and on the off occasion be in a position to run onto a Martin lay-off.

Think he’s exactly what we’re missing as well. Maybe Korey Smith can, in his own way, fill that role.

Best player my generation’s seen in a Derby shirt.
Positioning wise he was absolutely perfect as a #6. I’ve eulogised it before, but if you were to coach somebody how to play the position, his involvement in both of these goals is textbook.
Ensuring he receives the ball on the back foot, opens his body, zips a ball forward.

Huddlestone was more aesthetically pleasing, better left foot, maybeeee even better at making half a yard… but he wasn’t anywhere near as effective as George.
George would sometime zip them at the receiver too hard, but at the end of the day, that’s the matter’s problem, really

Think we’ll lose this, Clough always seems to get his sides to over-perform against teams he has a grudge against.
Thought maybe after everything we’ve been through he’d have mellowed towards us but he was just moaning about how it’s not been picked for tele and how hard a job it was here.

Think Knight’s the midfielder I’d least want to let go of, need legs in midfield desperately.
