It was an aerial assault like I haven't seen since we played Wycombe at their place in the Championship. Eventually, the strain started to show and we were fortunate perhaps that Burton put two good chances wide within a few minutes, but largely it was percentages stuff. Dobbin could have won us the game on his own, but never even tested the keeper. A second goal in the first half might have quelled Burton's fire before it even got ignited, but we were  often sloppy in possession and wasteful in the final third. In the second half, we didn't really possess a threat until Mendez-Laing came on and too often lost out in 50/50 challenges. Overall, a draw was probably a fair result, but we need to see some improvement in that performance starting next week. I think criticisms of some of Warne's choices today are fair - his substitutions didn't make sense to me either.
I thought Max Bird was our best outfield player, while Wildsmith again was a safe pair of hands.

Those blaming Davies for the goal need to look at Roberts’ feeble effort to block the first header.
He really is dreadful in the air defensively for someone who supposedly has aspirations of being a centre back.

Could never figure out what Holmes was. I mean he wasn't a winger, or a number 10, or a traditional midfielder. Or at least not a convincing winger/number 10/midfielder. He'd just sort of pop up every now and again and do something that made you thing maybe he was better that you'd given him credit for. Then he'd mess up the final ball. Then he'd disappear again.
I mean he's... okay. But I'm not sure he's better than we already have.

Yes, I was a bit surprised with how quiet they were. Noticed some of them fighting amongst themselves after a couple of minutes & their first song wasn't until about 10 minutes in. They even trotted out the archetypal lower division chant of 'Yellow' - never heard any club of any significant stature sing that before.
As to the game, feels like we've left 2 points out there today. Were the better side in general play throughout with Bird totally outshining Barry Bannan - unfortunately we were poor from wide areas & there seemed to be a real reluctance to get bodies into the box, something we had been a lot better at recently. Consequently Collins & McGoldrick found it heavy going & they weren't helped by some poor officiating - Wendie defenders given a lot of leeway to muscle us about.

And there was some football too! There has been loads of comment on the match officials and their performance, making me feel almost redundant! Radioactive Waste described the ref as being in a time warp with the fouls he let go unpunished. He might be warped, but it isn't by time. And it isn't simply down to incompetence, because if that were the case, both teams would suffer or benefit from it. Apart from a couple of incidents where Derby players got away with something, I have not seen such a one-sided display of officiating since at least the last time.
I actually thought that it was a good game of football, and was happy with the ref for the first 20 minutes, but then gave a free-kick to the Wendies because Fozzy stood on a Wednesday player's shadow, and then I knew that he had been given the obligatory "What are you messing about at?" message from EFL headquarters, and he flipped from then onwards. I know that some of our final balls were poor, but most of our problem came from the fact that we were being tripped, kicked or pulled off the ball, or the ref was blowing up for the slightest contact on a Wednesday player's shoulder - he simply wouldn't let the game flow, especially if Derby were building up some pressure. We had the 3 assaults on Smith, two on Sibley, and Max bird needing 3 long bouts of treatment. We had Collins being pulled sideways off the ball in the middle of the park, right in front of the ref who saw him disappear sideways leaning at about 45 degrees, with nothing given. Dobbin kicked the ball into the advertising hoardings, which isn't kicking the ball miles way, and was booked, while a Wednesday player kicked the ball 35 yards into the North West stand, and nothing given. Absolutely hopeless. We shouted "You don't know what you're doing" to no avail, mainly because he knew exactly what he was doing, as do most of the little Hitlers who grace Pride Park
Hourihane was very disappointing in the first half, but improved in the second, Sibley was solid ish in his customary out-of-position position. Collins didn't achieve very much, but Fozzy and Cashin were very good. The rest suffered from Sheffield's rather agricultural interpretation of the rules of football, but a point is good in the circumstances.
We have a few beatable teams coming up, so the future looks promising.
    Right - wjho's next?

I quite like Warne’s football.  Yes, there’s the odd hoof out of defence when we’re under pressure but I’d rather that than trying to overplay and get caught out.  We move the ball quickly and try to keep it simple.  We look for a forward pass but not always and aren’t afraid to go sideways or backwards if necessary.  Key being if necessary.  Over the last couple of seasons it’s felt like that’s the first option.  We pass the ball in front of players, especially out wide meaning they don’t have to check their run allowing the defence to regroup.
Naturally he started to play 3-5-2, it’s what he knows and has played for the last 5 or 6 years.  But he’s not afraid to change it.  I like the fact he recognised that during the game on Saturday.  You could argue why start like that, but the flip side is it worked well against Portsmouth.
Yes, he does things fans won’t like.  I’d like 1 or 2 men on the half-way line when defending a corner, sometimes we do go long a bit too often when we could do with a foot on the ball to slow it down.  But that’s the case with every manager.  I hated the silly goal kick routine under LR, over passing and he also never put a man on the half way line.  It’ll be the same for others.
One difference is though, I don’t feel nervous when we go a goal down.  I always think we can score and it’s not been like that for a few seasons.
If Warne can get a few players in over the next 2 or 3 windows and have a full pre-season with them I think he could prove to be a very astute appointment.

The players still wanted too much time on the ball in the first half, when it should have been clear (because Warne said it in his prematch interview) that they weren't going to get it.
The players simply weren't doing what they needed to do well enough. It shouldn't have been THAT lethargic, that disjointed.

    Thanks for your post.
With the greatest of respect, you are incorrect re our capacity and attendances.
We could hit 30,000 average in the premiership. That's why a new North Stand will be built. We are selling out every week in league one now.
Tomorrow has been soldout for 3 weeks. We would have sold 25,000 for tomorrow.
The chances of us maintaining a 25,000 to 30,000 average in the near future with the new North stand is very likely if we are doing well.
Last season for much of the second half of the season capacity was reduced to 15k whilst they replaced the North stand seats in the upper tier the lower tier. They also started work on the south stand. You can find all the evidence online.
And it's fact that we have soldout every home game this season.
The three home stands capacity equals 17,200.  That's the fratton end, North stand and south stand.
The away end capacity is about 1600 now due to works but was 1800 a few wees ago. Occasionally we could have home fans in that stand if away fans brought a small amount but if away fans bring 1000 or more we cannot have any fans in the Milton end due to the layout of the stand.
The fact remains we have soldout all home end seats this season in the three home stands, 17,200. On top of that it depends what away fans bring. If away fans bring more than 1000 we aren't allowed to sell tickets in the away stand.
I'm sure you aren't bothered, but if you really want confirmation, please contact our ticket office and they will confirm the sellouts.
Anyway I'm not here to talk about support etc. Enjoy the game tomorrow.

You had 19,009 vs Plymouth this season, so I'm assuming that is your current capacity due to "works". No other sell-outs this season, although Bristol Rovers was close.
The first step is for your club to complete those "works", and see if your average attendance even increases by just 1000 (still 2000 below capacity). You averaged 15003 last season, so it would be a massive risk to expand to have a capacity double what you had last season, just because you sold out one game. The second step is to maintain a high attendance percentage for several seasons.
It would be the same as us expanding our stadium to 45k, because we sold out against Birmingham last season. Fans of most clubs when doing well think they need to expand. We had the same when we were in the PL and the seasons which followed. 5 seasons since our relegation with 90% attendance (vs actual capacity) with plenty of sell-out games. Our lowest average in the PL at Pride Park is an impressive 28,551. We could easily sell more tickets than our current capacity when doing well, probably hitting 45k now and then. But it would be a struggle reaching 50% attendances when not doing so well. The reality is, this is the right size stadium for us.
Our lowest ever at Pride Park was still 66% of capacity. You were below that in 12/13, and were even at 40% of capacity in the mid-90s.The only time in the last 60 years which you've consistently hit 19,000 attendees over a season was during your PL years and challenging for Europe. The likelihood of repeating that is very small, as proven by it not being sustainable and you crashing down the leagues.
Once your refurbishments are complete, your 20-21k capacity is right for you at this moment in time.

I was behind the goal in MK yesterday and saw two very good saves close up, particularly the one from Bradley Johnson which looked a certain goal. He was incredible at Liverpool too, so I feel it's about time he got a song. Here's my suggestion:
?Wild thing, you make the Derby sing

Exactly, don’t get why people feel inclination to knock his odd failing, at this level his strength is his reading of the game. If he can show adaptability to play consistently well enough at centre half, it may prolong his career another season, rather than having to bomb up and down the pitch at full back or wing back.
There’s not many more versatile players, we are likely to sign any better than Fozzy.
