  1. I thought they hadn’t done it over covid and presumably because of administration last year. I do have some recollection it was done under Cocu

Will be after August and potentially a new contract for Rosenior before it’s done I guess

This picture says it all. Our Forum members rated Sibbo 2nd highest last Saturday, just a few decimals off Jason Knight whose score of 191 made him MotM. Yet Sibbo only played a few minutes. In the picture Sibbo draws 4 opponents towards him {they perceived him as the threat} before he picked out Houri with a Will Hughes-esque, slide-rule of a forensic pass & wallop…eat my goal. So, I agree, play Sibbo and give him game time to get his sharpness back and watch him fly. Advanced midfield/forward and he will flourish because he’s got bags of talent, and an insatiable desire to punish teams. And to be fair to Wayne R, I think Wayne was being “hard” on Sibbo to shape his character and tame his tendency to lose his head which I do think Sibbo has to channel/manage/curb/control. Sometimes Sibbo’s head gasket blows and he has an over-aggressive blood rush.

Do we really have naysayers already? After one game?!

I thought we were all getting behind every player, nowadays? I thought that was our new thing from last season.

Not overly, but reading the matchday thread post game I got the sense of a few being critical towards Collins and odd little bits in the days since. Small minority of know it alls admittingly, just thought it was worth pointing out about his contribution to the goal

Must admit I'm with @sage on this...The original post does sound a bit like one of those MOTD Over-Analyses where Alex Scott says something like "Since Pep came in, he's got Sterling playing just 3 yards further forward and it's paying dividends in terms of Sterling's goals"...{cue picture of Sterling last season just over the half-way line and contrast with another picture of sterling from this season 3 yards further up the pitch as irrefutable proof}. #tacticalbollox

I feel this is an over analysis of my over analysis

I caught it a couple of times in the Berlin game when Mc Goldrick was moving forward on the edge of the box. Ball could go wide to winger or inside to 6 yard box. Colin’s times his peel off into the danger area very well. He’s going to poach, has good positional brain. He’ll score. He also works hard and doesn’t fall over. My only wish is that he gets one asap for his own self confidence. He will want to look at us and his team mates and say I am your number 9, both my shirt and the score sheet say so.

I think that’s my point, that the strikers movement is being used as a tactic to make space for a shot from the edge of the box. That whilst Collins obviously needs to score goals, it’s not his only use and what he’s doing off the ball is just as important to how we want to play. Martin used to this for Bryson, by bringing defenders towards him and creating the space for Bryson. When you look at videos which include goals from any season Tom Lawrence is involved it was something he was very good at as well. A strikers job isn’t just go be there for a tap in an can make vital contributions without scoring.

Although maybe I’m wrong and he was lazy and offside, or some whataboutery like that.

But he's still offside and couldn't react to a rebound off the post or keeper. We haven't seen enough of any of these new players, to make a lasting judgement. I remember thinking that Andy Todd and Bob Malcolm were great signings after their first game.

I'd prefer to talk about Sibley's beautifully threaded pass between 4 players, inch perfect.

Where do you want him to be? If he’s in any onside position near to where he started he’d be directly in Hourihane’s shooting path. He’s offside when the shot goes in only because the defender pushes out cause he’s not marking Collin’s in the first place.

  7. Apologies as I couldn’t find Collins’ previous thread on here so started a new one. Please merge is necessary!

Anyway after watching Hourihane’s goal for the 178th time quite casually on Twitter, for the first time I spotted what Collins did and it’s importance. Just for all the naysayers out there really.

Anyway first phase is show in image one:

Collins sits neatly in between the two defenders although one isn’t on screen. As the ball gets passed to Hourihane and the defender directly in front of Collins’ moves to the ball, of which I don’t think he has a choice, what does Collins do?

As shown in image 2, Collins moves behind the second defender, meaning D2 has to stay wide and this leaves the gap for Hourihane to have a clear strike on goal. Simple movement as it’s effectively two steps left. Hourihane gets the plaudits but never under estimate how a good strikers positioning can impact a goal. Reckon we will see a lot of this over the season, many will whinge about his scoring stats if it’s he’s not banging them in every game but strikers play a valuable attacking role in many different ways

    Spot on, Tuff Luff.

I was a bit worried when they started that stuff, expecting us to wilt under the challenges, but we looked well prepared for it.

It actually distracted them more than it did us.

Yeah, I can’t work out of it was a deliberate tactic from the bench or from tiredness.

If it was from the bench then it was really naive to try and target Bird and Knight physically because they aren’t young players anymore. They have three/four seasons under their belt and Knights an Ireland full international!

Agree with what has been said about the shocking officiating. Even basic things like placing the free kick for the offside where the Lino put his flag up instead of where the last man was - bizarre. Must say though, not seen a team surround the ref like that since Roy Keane was still playing. Is that standard stuff in this league?

Until it goes very much against us I don’t mind it overall I don’t think. Some tougher challenges going in and that, shirts pulls etc but aslong as it’s the same for everyone and we can do the same then that’s fine by me. We know the standard won’t be brilliant, but it’s all part of the game to me.

As I said on my first post, as long as the players are protecting each other and by extension the referee is looking out for those loose challenges, then I’m ok with a more industrial game.

  10. Some random thoughts:

Cashin and Davies cruised it, all the back four did to be honest. Cashin’s reading of the game for someone with so few games under his belt is impressive.

Knight MOTM over the 90, again his reading of the game and anticipation is a class above this level. He will be the best player in this league if he stays.

Bird and Knight showed fantastic temperament after a few iffy challenges, kept playing their game and grew into it whilst Oxford stumbled.

Mendez-Laing does his best work with his back to goal, getting the ball down, coming inside and leaving space outside for a simple pass to whoever is there. Opened them up a couple of times second half. We can tell he’s going to be hot/cold but you need players like that.

Hourihane really grew into the game, but you can tell he just loves playing football. Ran round like a mad man once he scored, was lovely to see. If in League 1 the opposition leaves so much space on the edge of the box then he will be the signing of the season.

Itll come with Collins, liked what I saw but needs to gel and get others around him.

Sibley will love this league, again the amount of space he will get and defenders chopping in at him. Looks to be a bit more bulked up too.

We are looking to create and play into space, which in a look that’s more direct is going to be interesting. Make teams chase us and pull the opposition out of their positions.

Slightly concerned to see a couple of challenges when the player isn’t in control of a dangling foot. Bird nearly got one in the first half, and then did catch one in the ankle second half. I don’t mind physicality and and that, but both were stupid and are dangerous to both players involved. Fearful we could see a proper ankle breaker coming up if it continues. As I say don’t mind tough challenges but you need to protect yourself and the opponent.

Oxford essentially ‘showed their arse’ second half, probably through tiredness or whatever. A few frustration challenges, surrounding the ref asking for cards, trying to come across as physical rather than playing their game. They left a lot of open space and lost control of what they were attempting to do. Derby kept their head down, kept playing their way and opened Oxford up, took the chance and went away with 3 points. Interesting to see if that trend continues with opposition sides, you didn’t see that frustration/lack of discipline in the championship before I don’t think.

  11. Heading to Tenby for the first time this year, usually head to Devon or Cornwall but the higher influx of people going the last couple of years has made us consider other options (although saying that I think it it will have eased off a bit this year down there).

Anyway, any tips for Tenby or the surrounding area?
